Inter Religion Marraiges : Is conversion necessary?

The one and only free public forum for Bohras. The focus of this forum is the reform movement, the Dawoodi Bohra faith and, of course, the corrupt priesthood. But the discussion is in no way restricted to the Bohras alone.

Hello Laila,

We have a request to make. Please stop quoting entire messages in your replies. You can quote a part of the message when you need to and only when necessary. Otherwise the frequent bold cunks of quotes make for visual clutter and takes up unnecessary disk space.

Thank you for your cooperation.

What about women marrying outside the religion?
Dr. Asgar Ali says that Quran is silent on this.
In my opinion this question had not arised then. But since Quran does not differentiate between man and woman, same thing should apply to both.
Well I am neither a mufti nor a scholar of Islam. So someone knowledgable should answer your question.

Laila,

Like religion, marriage too is a man-made thing. Hard to tell which is worse. For a full, fuliflled and happy life neither is necessary. In fact, both are positive impediments to happiness. But if you have to marry, marry the jerk (they all are) you love and trust. Don't let religion, race even gender come in the way of a good life.

I am NOT a shia but here is what a shia scholar says about marriage between a sunni and a shia (let alone between a Hindu and a Muslim):

=======================
Question : Can a Shi'i girl marry a Sunni boy?

§ Answer : If there is a fear of being misled, it is not permissible.

What is this talk of Quran being silent?

Holy Quran says
(1) do not marry unbelieving women (idolaters), until they believe: A slave woman who believes is better than an unbelieving woman, even though she allures you. Nor marry (your girls) to unbelievers until they believe: A man slave who believes is better than an unbeliever, even though he allures you. Unbelievers do (but) beckon you to the Fire. But Allah beckons by His Grace to the Garden (of bliss) and forgiveness, and makes His Signs clear to mankind: That they may celebrate His praise. (Chapter #2, Verse #221)

(2) O ye who believe! When there come to you believing women refugees, examine (and test) them: Allah knows best as to their Faith: if ye ascertain that they are Believers, then send them not back to the Unbelievers. They are not lawful (wives) for the Unbelievers, nor are the (Unbelievers) lawful (husbands) for them. But pay the Unbelievers what they have spent (on their dower), and there will be no blame on you if ye marry them on payment of their dower to them. But hold not to the guardianship of unbelieving women: ask for what ye have spent on their dowers, and let the (Unbelievers) ask for what they have spent (on the dowers of women who come over to you). Such is the command of Allah. He judges (with justice) between you. And Allah is Full of Knowledge and Wisdom. (Chapter #60, Verse #10)

How can he say Quran is silent on this? Quran is VERY CLEAR on this.

Laila,

"Cheers humsafar" proves that you are not a believer. And for non-believers no conversion is necessary. Conversion is necessary for only those who believe. So you could marry a dog and still not convert! Since you do not believe why care?

Just curious. So if you're a believer and marry a dog. Who should convert, you or the dog?

So, it is possible for dogs to be believers? The canine species may not actually like the idea.

Talk about the dog being a Mumin(believer)

A Bohri farmer named Tireali Tubeali Puncherwalla lived alone in the countryside with a pet dog which he loved and doted on. After many long years of companionship, the dog finally died so Tireali went to the local Bohri Sheikh Sodabottleopener walla for funeral Raza.
"Sheikh saab, my dear old dog is dead. Could you be saying a Janaza prayer for the creature?"

Sheikh Sodabottleopener walla replied, "I am so very sorry to hear about your dog's death. But, unfortunately we cannot have Janaza prayers for an animal in the Bohri Mosque. However, there's a new denomination down the road, no telling what they believe, but maybe they'll do something for the animal."

Tireali said, "I'll go right now. Do you think US $ 5200 is enough waajibaaats for them for the services?"

With a twinkle in his eye Sheikh Sodabottleopener walla immediately said, "Why didn't you tell me the dog was a Bohri Mumin as well?"
