Benazir Bhutto dead in Pakistan attack

Utterly incomprehensible, but let us face it the PPP is a family business, the Muslim League is still stuck firmly to Nawaz Shariff.

But support for democracy must go on, it takes time, and generations to turn things around, and develop strong foundations.

That explains the appointment of Bilawal. Until he is ready for international politics, which may be a good 15 to 20 years, God knows what is in the bag for Pakistani people if PPP gets the sympathy votes and gets to form the government.

Amin Faheem is no Benazir or Nawaz Shariff and is too melow to stand up against "behind the scene" powerbrokers of PPP. His fate, if elected Prime Minister, will probably be the same as BB the last two times she was PM and we all know the reasons behind her downfall. Remember, Musharaf is watching! ;)

My prediction: No party gets the clear majority votes and will have to wheel and deal with others to form the government. PPP and PML(N) will never come to terms, MQM is not big enough to play any role on national level and the Mullahs will be major players once again. Hello Taliban.

Pardesi, personally I think Musharaff has done a wonderful job as leader of Pakistan, yes his made mistakes but his a breath of fresh air compared to the Bhutto, and Shariff clicks.

I support the move to democracy, I believe there needs to be an election, although I think because of the damage to election posts and the commission one should be delayed until the infrastructure is in place, perhaps by a couple of months or so.

I don’t expect Musharaf to be elected, but if the people had any sense they would choose him. However Pakistan remains a feudal state.

thanks for the link MF ....i cudnt find the list of richest pakis but i happened to read the comments of Salman Ahmed, the lead guitarist of Junoon on the link and found them very interesting...surely worth a read too (at the bottom of the page)....

last year Pakistan was named one of the "Failed states" as per the Failed Sates Index 2007 according to the US Government....n if u look at it objectively pakistan has very to show for since it broke away from India in 1947. Surely all those lives lost during the Partition, all those displaced ppl were not worth wat pakistan has achieved in these years. i know many pakistanis on this forum mite disagree with me...but pakistan's future looks very bleak

Family feuds resurface to threaten Benazir Bhutto’s will for party succession
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/w ... 118974.ece
Mumtaz, 74, also denounced Asif Ali Zardari, Benazir’s widower and the new co-chairman of the PPP, as an opportunist and said that he doubted the authenticity of the will that Bilawal read out at the family home on Sunday. The PPP says that the will nominated Mr Zardari as Benazir’s successor, but he immediately stepped down in his son’s favour, on the understanding that the father would run the party until the son had completed his studies at Oxford in three years.

Bilawal, who flew to Dubai early yesterday, changed his name on Sunday from Bilawal Zardari to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in a symbolic move asserting his right to lead the Bhutto dynasty. But Mumtaz – first cousin of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Benazir’s father – said that the name change violated tribal norms and that Bilawal had no right to lead the party as he was not a Bhutto. “You can’t just add a name. You can’t become a Bhutto overnight,” he said, sitting on the terrace of the original Bhutto family home, two miles from the mausoleum where Benazir was buried alongside her father and two brothers on Friday.

“It’s very suspect,” he added. “Suddenly a will has come into existence that nobody has seen before.”

wats unfrotunate abt the rich list is that there arent any innovators or any new age entrepreneurs in there.....most of them are jus ppl who belong to rich families and own conventional "brick and mortar" companies...which is in quite contrast to the rich list of india wich contains many rags to riches stories and most ppl entrepreneurs owning new age companies......shows the lack of meritocratic environment in pakistan......
