In the month of Muharram when shias all over the
world are mourning and remembering the sacrifices of
ahle-al-bayt, the orthodox bohras in Udaipur are facing
harassment at the hands of the kothar.
The former leaders of the Udaipur bohra reform movement, who
betrayed the movement and joined hands with the kothar are now finding
themselves high and dry. The
reason: all the 6 mosques in Udaipur, with the exception of
one, are under the management of the reformist Bohra jamaat.
The kothar doesn't give the orthodox permission to go to
these mosques or pray under reformist imams.
The one mosque which is now under the joint management of
orthodox as well as reformists is in the mohalla and is not convenient for the orthodox bohras living in the outskirts of the city to visit.
So now there’s big campaign to construct a new mosque
for the orthodox bohras. They approached the kothar to help
finance the construction but were, obviously, laughed off. Then they
pleaded with the kothar to send one of their agents to Udaipur to
collect money from the people for the mosque. Kothar agreed and
sent the Sayedna's grandson Taha Bhai Saheb to Udaipur for
Muharram.
Each orthodox family in Udaipur is now asked to donate Rs 10,000 - 15,000 for the purpose. Plus each family is asked to donate for the
muharram niyaz, nazar mukam and salaam to Taha bhai saheb. A
member of each family has to personally go and donate the money on the
takhat of the bhai saheb.
People instead of mourning the sacrifices of Imam Hussain are mourning
their own fate.
