Bohra SMS Duniya

The one and only free public forum for Bohras. The focus of this forum is the reform movement, the Dawoodi Bohra faith and, of course, the corrupt priesthood. But the discussion is in no way restricted to the Bohras alone.

A 21-year-old girl was found murdered in a hotel in Santacruz (West) late in the evening yesterday. It is suspected that a male friend who came to meet her strangulated her to death.

Scene of crime: The deceased, identified as Rachida Suratwala, had checked into Hotel Milan International at 3 pm yesterday. File Pic

The deceased, identified as Rachida Suratwala, had checked into Hotel Milan International at 3 pm yesterday, along with another female relative.

The girl, who is a resident of Golibar in Santacruz (East), had told her parents that she was going out for a relative’s wedding.

Her friend, identified only as Shaikh, arrived at the hotel and the girl’s relative went down to the hotel’s lobby.

Three hours later, when Shaikh left the place, the girl’s relative went up to her room and found her lying motionless on the bed.

The hotel management was called, who then informed the Santacruz police. Her body was taken to Cooper Hospital for post-mortem and her family members were intimated.

The Santacruz police have registered a case of murder and are searching for Shaikh. The Crime Branch is also conducting investigations simultaneously.

No kakaji, it is not what you think. kindly verify facts before using words like prostitution.

it was an unfortunate case of a young woman, in love with a Sunni. Since her parents would not allow it, she was married of at the age of 17, became a mother at the age of 18 and even then, could never forget the man she loved.

he asked her to meet one last time, and when she did, he killed her and ran away.

Who is at fault here? the girl? maybe, maybe not. she was just following her heart. and the heart, one knows, does not keep quiet or still.

the guy? definitely. cold blooded murderer that he is. Being from a poor background is no excuse. he was well off. guess it is in their upbringing at the end of the day after all

the parents? i would probably say yes. if they were aware of their daughters love, then they could have perhaps shown a little more maturity and this could have been avoided. if they didnt want her to marry the sunni guy, they could have atleast counselled her and tried to make her understand rather than marry her off immediately

Sad, sad thing that happened.

As for GM bhai, she may have been a Surti, who died under tragic circumstances. but no. i did not go to her janaaza or her sipara, because I DID NOT KNOW WHERE IT WAS BEING HELD. JUST LIKE I DID NOT KNOW WHERE THE FUNERAL OF THE FAMILY WHO DIED LAST WEEK WAS HELD (upper case only to get your attention, not to shout)

Their main problem is with Bombay Mercantile Co-op Bank Ltd because years ago the mafia zaadas of Saifee Mahal wanted to be on the board of directors so that they could have full control over it and in the bargain milk it high and dry and make it defunct (At that time the bank was the largest cooperative bank of India having huge cash reserves).

This move of theirs was vehemently opposed by the then Bank Chairman, Shri Zain Rangoonwala due to which the zaadas issued a fatwa thereby ordering all bohras to close their accounts and also forced the bohra staff of the bank to resign from their jobs, its another matter that as usual the zaadas couldn't provide them any alternate source of income/jobs due to which bohras had to face lots of hardships and financial problems. The Bank chairman, Mr.Rangoonwala who was the receipent of 'Padmashree' award which is given to leading Indian citizens by the president of India was also excommunicated. The closure of accounts by bohras didn't have any impact on the bank as their financial transactions were meagre as compared to other large accounts. However the bank did plunge into deep financial troubles after the death of Mr. Zain Rangoonwala as by then there were no bohras left on the board and the management went into the hands of others.

The zaadas animosity with regard to the said bank is evident from the fact that they themselves have multiple accounts with other Indian and foreign banks and also hold huge amounts in fixed deposits and give their properties on lease/rents to other banks. Hence the age old saying "hamein je kahiye te karo, hamein je kariye te NA karo".

The writer does not know that Alikader is very much involved in this game of hatred. Zahir batin's Taizoon bhaisaheb has clearly said in his website that the Sahezada Muffadalbhaisaheb has conformed the zahirbatin theory.

If Aliqader is serious about the dawat he should immediately expel the ustad who is zahil. Since he has given misak and has conformed about the positions of Dai, Mazoom and Mukashir he has broken his misaq.

The religiously corrupt Alikader will not take any action because he is not in favor of religion but he wants money and power. I hope the author of this writ-up in whatsapp understand this game plan.

Adherence – Never Let Go

Lanuguage fails us miserably when attempting to describe Mufaddal Moula’s waaz. Oratory is being redefined everyday as mumineen gather in hushed silence to catch every word, every gesture, every expression. In three hours, mumineen are taken on what can perhaps be best described as a ‘magical’ journey.

Yesterday, Mufaddal Moula illustrated, amongst a plethora of multi-faceted subjects, the meaning of ‘tamassuk’ and referred to it as ‘adherence’. Every individual, in every era, irrespective of race, region and religion, consciously or unconsciously, adheres to some ‘thing’. It could be a set of moral principles, it could be a way of life, it could be an identity, it could be a belief system. It is in built into our very DNA, that we need to cling to something. Anthropologists describe man as a social animal. He cannot, despite his best efforts refrain from reaching out to something or someone. Unguided, people adhere to what they see fit, even if it is not in their best interests to do so.

Mufaddal Moula elucidated the how, when and why of the principle of adherence. Moulana Abizer was the perfect example of adherence. He clung to Moulana Ali’s zikr and mohabbat despite facing continuous ridicule, impassioned threats and humiliating persecution. He was a man of principle. He stood firm, clinging to the cloth of Baitullah, reaching out to the throngs of pilgrims, urging them to not let go of Ahle Bait. In return, Moulana Ali, Imam Hassan, Imam Hussain and their devoted disciples bid him a sorrowful farewell when the third self proclaimed caliph, banished him and Moulana Ali conveyed to him what every mumin aspires to “You always have been and always will be with us”. He never let go of Ahle Bait and in return, they never abandoned him. His adherence did not die with him, but lived on in the form of his devoted slave, Joon. Abizer’s legacy of adherence was sealed when Imam Hussain, seeing the devotion of Joon to his master on Ashura, wept as he remembered Abizer.

Three days of thirst and hunger, coupled with unbearable heat, can drive a man to the brink of insanity and break the resolve of even the most hardened. Yet, Abbas, whose courage, commitment and principled stance against the enemies of Imam Hussain, set the standard by which a mumin adheres to his Moula. Mufaddal Moula, with the fervour of one who can see the events of Kerbala unravelling before his very eyes, described in vivid detail how Abbas, even as first his right hand and then his left hand was severed, never let go of the vessel of water. Mufaddal Moula paused and forced us to not just think, but visualise, what Abbas was doing. Any mortal man would have first drank from the river as he gathered water for Sakina, but Abbas adhered to the principles which Rasulullah and Moulana Ali had taught him. Imagine the sheer will that Abbas required to not even taste a drop of water? There was nothing to stop him. The soldiers were hidden from view, as they were too terrified to openly attack him. Three days of scorching thirst and the entire Euphrates at his feet. But not A SINGLE DROP did he drink. It might seem to us that it was only sensible and rational that Abbas drink so that he would have the energy and strength to bring water to Sakina. But no. As Mufaddal Moula explained, wafadari, LOYALTY, was the principle by which Abbas stood firm. It was this loyalty and not drinking water that provided Abbas with the will, resolve and herculean strength to reach Sakina.

Even with both hands severed, blood flowing, Abbas grabbed the container of water with his teeth, urging his steed to go on. It was a severe blow to Yazid’s army as they realised Abbas was unstoppable and a resounding statement of intent, that Abbas, come what may, thirst, hunger, fatigue, with or without limbs, he would never ever let go of his Moula.

This is adherence to Moula. Loyalty – that is the principle we must adhere to. When Mufaddal Moula spoke of certain fundamentalists who, because of their arrogant prejudice, reject passports of mumineen who are named ‘Abdul Hussain’, he said “Come what may, they can say and do whatever they want, but we will never ever leave our Moula and we will cling to him till our dying breath’.

As these days of Ashara pass one by one, our loyalty lies in standing firm and adhering to Imam Hussain’s zikr and matam. Even the act of matam is laden with meaning. What happens when we do matam? Our hands rise and reach out above and as we call out ‘Ya Hussain’, we bring are arms to our chests, to where our hearts are. We are reaching out to Imam Hussain and his Dai, to hold our hands, to throw us that lifeline which can save us from this sea of chaos. As a mumin does matam, he feels in his heart, Aqa Moula reaching out to him, holding his hand in his and he knows, with a deep seated conviction, that Moula will never abandon him.

As in matam, when all our focus and energy are concentrated on Imam Hussain, let us, in every moment of our lives, just as Moulana Abizer and Moulana Abbas did, never ever let go of Moula, never every forget him, even when the trials and tribulations of this life overwhelm us. You can always be assured that this Moula will never ever let go of your hand, come what may.

Paragon of Excellence

In the plant kingdom, the date tree is in a league of its own. Its roots hold steady even in the most muddied soil. It bears fruit not just when there is plenty, but even when the land is parched and bereft of water. Whereas other trees may survive when their tops are cropped, the date tree, similar to humans, cannot.

Similarly, the ruby is a gemstone which is set apart from its fellow minerals and stones. When smelted in a furnace, others disintegrate or fall apart, but a ruby’s lustre only becomes more radiant.

There is something unique to both the date tree and the ruby. They both rise above their peers through distinct and unique qualities. Mufaddal Moula spoke of each being the example to which others in their classification aspire to.

We all start our lives as children who imitate and try to mimic the ways of our elders. We educate ourselves through learning through the example set by others. It’s only natural. In fact, every animal and plant mimics and imitates its predecessor. Our genetic code is encoded with the information of the past. We cannot help but follow.

Therein lies the challenge. Who or what do we follow? Mufaddal Moula, elucidated this simple yet crucial aspect of living today when he spoke of ‘uswat hasana’, a paragon of excellence, a perfect example whose existence and consequent submission to is the bedrock of our faith.

Allah has spoken of Ibrahim and Rasulullah being the best examples of those who should be followed. There are three conditions by which emulating and following holds any substance. Firstly, total and complete trust is required. Secondly, a mumin should submit control of every aspect of his life to Moula and finally, in every instance he should look toward Moula. Only if these conditions hold can a mumin be said to have made Moula the paragon of excellence by which he lives his life.

Mufaddal Moula spoke of Moulana Ali. Having been born only forty days earlier, he was suffering from conjunctivitis. As a last resort, his uncles took him to a Christian monk who resided in a monastery with his fellow monks. The tale is a long one, but towards the end, the monk said “Take him away, for only he can heal himself.” As he said that, the infant Ali, rubbed his eyes with his own fingers and in an instant had healed himself. Then Mufaddal Moula spoke of what happened during the fall of the fortress of Khaybar. Rasulullah was informed that Ali was suffering from conjunctivitis. This time though, Ali went to Rasulullah and as he did so, Rasulullah, after wetting his fingers in his own mouth, applied them on Ali’s eyes.

As with every action of Moulana Ali, this act too was not devoid of symbolism. Ali showed the world that in following Rasululllah and doing so in the right manner, there is nothing but benefit to be gained.

When Jabir was fortunate enough to reach Madina in order to do Rasulullah’s ziyarat, he travelled from Kufa in Iraq to Arabia almost instantaneously. Moulana Ali showed the way through light which beamed from his finger. When conveying his experience, Jabir said that “When Moulana Ali asked me if I wished to do Rasulullah’s ziyarat, I did not doubt him for a moment.” This is Ali! There could be no room for doubt.

In analysing this riwayat, Mufaddal Moula explained with both affection and firmness, that when following Moula’s firmaan, one must do so wholeheartedly. You cannot be of two minds. If you sport a beard, then do so with “confidence”. If you wear a rida, do so with “confidence”. If you grudgingly implement practices espoused by Moula and are constantly questioning the validity and feasibility of it, then there is no point. He could not have been clearer. He said that if you wear a rida but then concern yourself with what people will say or how they will look at you or that they will point fingers at you, then there is nothing to be gained. Instead if you take upon yourself to do what Moula wishes, then you will see nothing but the light.

It’s all or nothing. There is no grey area. We have to give ourselves wholly to Moula. We need to stand firm and tall, with our roots firmly embedded in the wishes of Moula and we need to remain strong, just like the ruby, for our value, our self worth, can only grow even when faced with the most dire criticisms and consequences.

Mufaddal Moula recited the Shahadat of Ali Akber. Mumineen wept inconsolably as Mufaddal Moula spoke of Ali Akber’s tears as he embraced his six month old brother and told him he would never see his elder brother again. As Ali Akber went into the battlefield, thirst overcame him but never, not once did he seek water from the enemy. They even offered him water, but Ali Akber, the grandson of Moulana Ali, did not take a sip of water, for he knew, “Moulaj paani aapse” – only Hussain could give water. Ali Akber could have taken water from anyone, but he didn’t. Hussain gave Ali Akber what he wanted and more.

When Mufaddal Moula said that only Hussain could give Ali Akber water, it wasn’t that no one else had water. However, as far as Ali Akber was concerned all the water that the Yazidis offered was nothing but dust. Furthermore, we clearly know that Hussain did not give water to Ali Akber but that did not prevent him from quenching the thirst of Ali Akber. Ali Akber knew what he should want and that it could only be given by Hussain. Hussain gave him the ring of Rasulullah and his own parched tongue. Ali Akber’s thirst was quenched. If only we had the cognitive faculty to comprehend the significance of this single act.

If we think about it, for a mumin, the only water there is - or in other words - the only thing worth striving for, is that which Moula gives. Everything else is worthless. Mufaddal Moula is redefining our preconceived notions of everything in our life. One could expand endlessly, but one example which Moula gave was that of education. Knowledge is only knowledge if attained with Raza and Dua of Moula. It may appear as knowledge, but knowledge ceases to be knowledge if acquired through other means, means which are antithetical to the ways of Moula. If we follow him, we will see the light.

The matam and buka of a mumin is replete with meaning and substance. When we do matam, it is not just an expression of grief. Someone taught us, showed us, how to do matam. Others may slash themselves with blades or don black garbs, but mumineen emulate the one Moula they know they should emulate. We do matam and buka as how Moula shows us. Any other form of zikr or gham of Hussain is just not matam or buka. Remember Moula, hear Moula, see Moula and with every breath and every movement, follow him. His only wish is that we not only become like him, but become him.

The quran is full of the words faith and belief. and at every instance allah asks that you put your faith and belief in him. Being a muslim ,I 'd rather put my trust and belief in Allah. I have done it through out my life and it is my belief and allah shows me the way. I say to all, "put your faith and belief in Allah". Adam did it , Noah did it, Ibrahim did it big time and was refered to in the quran as a friend of Allah, Moses did it, Essa did it , the Rasool did it. what is stopping you from doing it? This alone is enough. after this faith in Allah , you want no more and there is no need for anymore.

He talks about faith and thats all it is ;talk. I say prove it. Give up all your luxuries and live a life like Moula Ali. Strip yourself of all these worldly goods that surround you and distribute all your money to the orphans, the poor and needy. I know you cannot do it. you cannot lead a life of pure faith. you need najwa and big money . you cannot live your life on faith. Where was your faith and belief in your father when mumineen were being killed with guns and grenades in barkat e haideri, karachi. you and your chamchas had no faith. you left your mumineen your followers a stray and fled to columbo , Sri Lanka. That cheap is your faith. someone has been paid to write this speach for you and you are just acting it out.

his money, is just in a manner of speach. actually it is mumineens money and should be rightly spent on the welfareof the mumineen and no one should be putting their hands inside this pot and getting percentages.

Actually, during the time of war, the prayers are shortened similar to when one is travelling. Hence Imam Hussain was praying only 2 rakat for asr namaz. So I can say with certainty that the last sajda of Imam Hussain was definitely not his 52nd sajda!!

This whole Sajda thing bring another interesting question,
If Imam Hussain did Asr separately with Duhr then why are Bohras and Shia continue to combine Duhr and Asr, should not we follow the lead of Ahul Ul Bayt and pray Duhr and Asr separately.
If Imam Hussain was martyred at Asr time then why is our Waiz continues till Maghrib and sometimes past Maghrib.( I know Jafferia do finish their Ashura at Asr)

I am pretty sure most bohra is wearing belt of lanat in their neck, they do exactly opposite to what is mentioned in this shayri.

they wear best clothes in majlises and eat most delicious foods in muharram.

lanat is chasing their houses.
