Let us discuss our views about the biblical character Melchizedek.
Despite what Mulla Qiyam asserts, Melchizedek was not just another priest. He was an important figure and the Bible confirms this. The following books/articles talk about Melchizedek and his relation to Ismailism.
Vajda: "Melchisedec dans la mythologie ismaélienne," J.A. CCXXXIV (1943/45):
173-183.
Ivanow: "Noms bibliques dans la mythologie ismaélienne," J.A. CCXXXVII
(1949): 249-255. Continuation of Vajda's
article on Melchisedek in Ismailian mythology.

I posted 03-22-2002 06:21 PM ET (US)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Genesis 14
3 “Then Melchizedek, the King of Salem (SALEM = ISLAM) and The Priest (IMAM) of God Most High (El-Elyon, Al-Alyyun), brought him bread and wine.”
4 “Melchizedek blessed Abram with this blessing: Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth.”
5 “And blessed be God Most High, who has helped you conquer your enemies. Then Abram gave Melchizedek a tenth of all the goods he had recovered.”
Melchizedek is Shem – the son of Prophet Noah – the great grandfather of Abraham. Melchizedek passed on the Imamat to Abraham. Even Abraham recognized the Imam of his Time. As you can see above, Abraham was paying dasond to the Imam the same way we do. And the Imam was bestowing blessings upon Abraham. This event occurred while Abraham was only a Prophet and Messenger of Allah. The fact that Melchizedek was called King of “Salem” which can translate as Islam establishes Islam as the primordial religion.
Christian and Jewish scholars are STILL trying to figure out who Melchizedek was. Luckily, we seem to have the answer. So what we see above is also the torch passing from one Imam to another – LIGHT UPON LIGHT.

Hebrews 7
6 This Melchizedek was King of Salem (ISLAM) and Priest (IMAM) of God Most High (El-Elyon). He met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him,
7 And Abraham gave him a tenth (ZAKAT) of everything. First, his name means “king of righteousness”; then also, “king of Salem” means “king of peace” (or King of Islam)
8 Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life (ETERNAL), like the Son of God (DIVINE) he remains a priest (IMAM) forever.
The office of Imamat is eternal. Allah’s Light had no mother or father. It ALWAYS
existed. The Imamat is a divine office and continues forever.

O ye who believe! Believe in Allah and His messenger and the Scripture which He hath revealed unto His messenger, and the Scripture which He revealed aforetime. Nizari,
No Muslim on earth will say that the original bible was not revealed by Allah. It was and we believe.
But the bible that exists today, is a man made version of the divine revelation.
We have King James Version, the we have king James new version.
Even in the bible itself we have the gospels not according to allah but the gospel according mathew, mark, luke and one other.
The words of the bible have been changed. Dueteromomy 18:18 previous versions said the new prophet will be from amongst thy brethren, the new versions say from amongst thy countrymen thereby eliminating all references to the prophet. And people like you want to keep referring to these books.
Please do not keep shoving this biblical fantasies down our throats. If that is how you explain Imamat then I am sorry to say that the concept of Imamat has to be a fantasy. A backbone of Ismaili belief rests on the shoulders of books that have been outdated. May be the concept of Imamat is outdated too.

True, the Bible as it is today is not the original Bible revealed. However, the Old Testament has not been serverely changed. Especially Genesis. The meeting of Abraham and Melchizedek took place - other sources also confirm this. And Melchizedek has been mentioned in the Dead Sea Scrolls and other earlier books.

Nizari,
You or I are not in a position to decide that since a book has not been changed severly it can be used to prove ones religion.
Allah decided that the books were corrupted and so revealed the quran.
People who follow the quran are on the true path and they believe that quran isn't the only scripture revealed albeit it is the only one in its pure form.
I cannot imagine what the need is for people to go back to the older revelations except to cause mischief in the land.

Melchizedek in the Dead Sea Scrolls:
The Coming of Melchizedek
11Q13
Col.2
(...) And concerning what Scripture says, "In this year of Jubilee you shall return,
everyone f you, to your property" (Lev. 25;13) And what is also written;
"And this is the manner of the remission; every creditor shall remit the claim
that is held against a neighbor, not exacting it of a neighbor who is a member
of the community, because God`s remission has been proclaimed" (Deut.15;2)
the interpretation is that it applies to the Last Days and concerns the captives, just
as Isaiah said: "To proclaim the Jubilee to the captives" (Isa. 61;1) (...)
just as (...) and from the inheritance of Melchizedek, for (... Melchizedek)
, who will return them to what is rightfully theirs. He will proclaim to them
the Jubilee, thereby releasing them from the debt of all their sins.
He shall proclaim this decree in the first week of the jubilee period
that follows nine jubilee periods. Then the "Day of Atonement" shall
follow after the tenth jubilee period, when he shall atone for all the Sons
of Light, and the people who are predestined to Melchizedek.
(...) upon them (...) For this is the time decreed for the
"Year of Melchizedek`s favour", and by his might he will judge God`s
holy ones and so establish a righteous kingdom, as it is written about
him in the Songs of David ; "A godlike being has taken his place in
the council of God; in the midst of divine beings he holds judgement"
(ps. 82;1). Scripture also says about him ; "Over it take your seat
in the highest heaven; A divine being will judge the peoples" (Ps. 7;7-8)
Concerning what scripture says ; " How long will you judge unjustly
, and show partiality with the wicked? Selah" (Ps. 82;2)
,the interpretation applies to Belial and the spirits predestined to him,
because all of them have rebelled, turning from God`s precepts and
so becoming utterly wicked. Therefore Melchizedek will thoroughly
prosecute the vengenance required by God`s statutes. Also, he will deliver
all the captives from the power of Belial, and from the power of all
the spirits destined to him. Allied with him will be all the
"righteous divine beings"(Isa. 61;3). (The ...) is that whi(ch ...all)
the divine beings.
The visitation is the Day of Salvation that He has decreed through Isaiah
the prophet concerning all the captives, inasmuch as Scripture says,
"How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of the messenger
who announces peace, who brings good news, who announces salvation,
who says to Zion "Your divine being reigns"." (Isa. 52;7)
This scriptures interpretation : "the mountains" are the prophets,
they who were sent to proclaim God`s truth and to prophesy to all Israel.
"The messengers" is the Anointed of the spirit, of whom Daniel spoke;
"After the sixty-two weeks, an Anointed shall be cut off" (Dan. 9;26)
The "messenger who brings good news, who announces Salvation"
is the one of whom it is written; "to proclaim the year of the LORD`s favour
, the day of the vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn" (Isa. 61;2)
This scripture`s interpretation: he is to instruct them about all the periods
of history for eternity (... and in the statutes) of the truth. (...)
(.... dominion) that passes from Belial and returns to the Sons of Light (....)
(...) by the judgment of God, just as t is written concerning him;
"who says to Zion "Your divine being reigns" (Isa. 52;7)
"Zion" is the congregation of all the sons of righteousness, who uphold
the covenant and turn from walking in the way of the people.
"Your divine being" is Melchizedek, who will deliver them from the
power of Belial. Concerning what scripture says, "Then you shall
have the trumpet sounded loud; in the seventh month . . . " (Lev. 25;9)
This basically says that the arrival of Melchizedek takes place with "a messenger who announces peace". And this messenger says "your divine being reigns."
At this point i would like to point out that Muhammad was a messenger who announced Islam(Islam means peace) and announced the Imamat of Hazrat Ali. ("your divine being reigns").

This is what i read from a book:
The Dead Scrolls A New Translation
Wise, Abegg & Cook pp. 455 457:
“For our author MELCHIZEDEK is an enormously EXALTED DIVINE Being, to whom ARE APPLIED NAMES that are generally RESERVED FOR GOD ALONE, THE HEBREW NAMES EL AND ELOHIM.”
"MELCHIZEDEK IS SUBSTITUTED EVEN FOR THE MOST HOLY NAME OF ISRAEL'S GOD, YAHWEH. YET MORE REMARKABLY, MELCHIZEDEK IS SAID TO ATONE FOR THE SINS OF THE RIGHTEOUS AND TO EXECUTE JUDGMENT UPON THE WICKED ACTIONS USUALLY ASSOCIATED WITH GOD HIMSELF. BY THE POWER OF MELCHIZEDEK, dominion on earth shall pass from satan (here called belial) to the righteous SONS OF LIGHT. This latter group constitutes those who are predestined to belong to the PARTY OF MELCHIZEDEK, the congregation of the sons of righteousness. These people heed the message of a second figure described in this writing as the messenger. The messenger, also designated ANOINTED OF THE SPIRIT (hebrew Messiah), is conceived of as coming with a message from god, a message explicating the course of history (that is, a declaration of when the end shall come) and teaching about god's truths. This figure dies, an event that may correspond somehow with the text's references to jubilee periods. "
the name Melchizedek means "King of Peace" or "King of Righteousness".
According to the Dead Sea Scrolls, the names Elohim, and Yahweh have been used to describe the person known as Melchizedek.
