Prophets are infallible. They do not sin! They are perfect role-models for the rest of humanity. Their spiritual states are lofty and excellent. Its not that they cannot sin - They have the ability to sin but they choose not to. That's because of their high spiritual state. They are not attracted to base desires. Peace be with you. Allow me to explain why these are not contradictory statements, as you have wrongfully assumed. Allah has endowed Prophets with the same free-will, as he has to the rest of human beings. Prophets are human beings too. They have free-will but their spiritual states are at such high positions that using this free-will to sin does not attract them at all. Hence, they are infallible. This is my understanding of the matter. You are free to present the true divine understanding of the Shia-Ismaili-Mustali-Dawoodi faith. Best Regards.

By the way, I agree with sixfeetunder as in prophets are capable of sinning but the level of their taqwa is so high that they choose not to commit even the smallest of sins. Anyone who believes that a prophet is incapable of sinning is a fool. Even a mentally and physically retarded person is incapable of sinning. We all know that a such a person will not have anything to answer for on the day of judgement.
