The translation by Mohammad Asad is good. You can do a google search on some other translations as well. Try to refer to multiple translations if possible.

I would like to suggest one more thing, if u are planning to start reading Quraan with translation make it in your mother tongue, in this way u wont just understand it deeply but also remember it.

Also consider Abdullah Yusuf Ali's translation. The commentary and footnotes (i found them very helpful) in understanding the meaning of the verses of the Holy Quran.

The other suggestion mentioned that you should look at multiple translations to get a "consensus view" is also a very good one.

You can download Quran software on http://www.zekr.org it has a very huge database of Quran translations in different languages also has a good functionality to simultaneously view and compare different translations.

Abdullah Yusuf Ali's translation was the very first translation that I read. He is responsible for introducing me to the Quran. May Allah have mercy on his soul and give him Jannah. The reason I did not mention his name is because there are people on this board or who used to be on this board that have an allergy of Yusuf Ali. As soon as you mention that name, they will start fuming and smoke starts coming out of all the orifices on their bodies.

Hasan,

Do you believe in the miracle of the number 19 in the Quran?

Edip Yuksel is infact a firm believer in the miracle of 19 in the Quran. If you do not believe in it, then you might want to think about suggesting his translation. Yes he has some good points and some good explanations. So did Rashad Khalifa. But he turned everyone against him once he suggested that he was a prophet and was receiving revelation from Allah.

I have suggested beacause with its lucid language, brilliant theological and philosophic arguments,
edip yuksel removes the smoke of distortions and ignorance generated by
clergymen that have concealed the light of the Quran from masses. Pulling
our attention to numerous scientific evidences supporting the authenticity of
the divine nature of the Quran. I highly recommend
anyone who seeks truth about God without suppressing or compromising
their brains.

To judge any translation I just skim to verse 72:18...
This verse rips of any Mushrikeen.

See footnotes pg 369
http://www.studyquran.org/resources/Qur ... lation.pdf

They clearly accept Kazzab Rashad khalifa as their messenger and call the Mujahids who killed the liar a Mushrik. They are not decieving the people of SUnnah but they are decieving themselves.
