“The Gracious who is established (istawa) upon His throne” (20:5).
Regarding this verse, Imam Ja`far as-Sadiq [a] said, "He is established in all things, so no thing is closer to Him than any other thing. The far is not far from Him, and the near is not close to Him – He is established in all things."

Let's give credit where it is due!

Iqbal was not only a great poet but a great Muslim visionary, it is not easy to understand his poetry, it has deeper meanings. One should read his 'Shikwa' and 'Jawab-e-Shikwa' ...........

Iqbal says

Jis Khayt Say Dehka'an Ko Muyasar Nahee Rotee
Us Khayt Kay Har Khosha-e-Gundum Ko Jala Duo .............

Now when he says this he does not become a terrorist or socialist or communist ............ he believes in a Welfare State as envisaged by Islam.

What inteqam ? Its clear then light that the rebellion by Imam husain A S was a complete failure by worldly standards and he was a terrorist in the eyes of umaayads which is why they were brutally executed in ways worse then how a terrorist is killed by drone strikes. And the ummayds lost nothing and their rule continued till decades and is going till date. I really wonder what practical good was achieved by any party ? They fought and one party was defeated and this is why people mourn for defeat and failure as simple as that .

Hussain’s legacy continues to inspire.

Through this tragic end but heroic act of sacrifice, Hussain was ultimately victorious. His death became the catalyst for revolutionary change and led to the collapse of Yazid’s tyrannic rule. Hussain stood by his principles till the very end, and his legacy continues to inspire millions around the world.

From civil rights leaders like Gandhi who was inspired by Hussain’s stand, to volunteers at local charities – people across the world are inspired by his selflessness, courage and determination. The story of Hussain ibn Ali stands as an inspiration to all, no matter what colour or creed.

Yazid was anyways a puppet his death was of little significance, the Umayyad regime continued and the Aale Muhammad PBUH were continued to be prosecuted for decades to the extent the so called Imams themselves fought and killed each other splitting into various Shi'a sects.

we petition the obama administration to:

Recognise Ashura as a Federal Holiday

Ashura is the tenth day of Muharram, the first Month of the Muslim calendar, and is significant for the brutal murder of Hussain Ibne Ali (PBUH), the dearest grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), as well as 72 of his family members and friends by the political tyrant of the era, Yazid ibne Muawiya. This day of inexplicable grief occurred in Karbala, Iraq in 680 AD.

Given the timeless nature of his story, it is important that all of us reflect and realize the importance of his struggle. As a result, we urge that the day of Ashura be added to the list of Muslim holidays observed as an official public holiday.

Declaring Ashura as a public holiday could strengthen the ability of the US to project itself, as its founding fathers wanted, as a beacon of justice and freedom to the entire world

Extremely silly petition. Federal holidays like MLK Day and Christmas Day are a sore point because they are not mandated by the US Constitution. And religious holidays are absolute no, No. Religion has no place in Government in the USA. In any case, Federal holidays apply, if at all, only to banks, government offices and several inconsequential sections of the populace.

Leave popular religion to the brain-dead. They are guaranteed the freedom to remain brain-dead, if they so choose.

To add to what Fayyaz said
First Muslims have to unite to find a united Eid before asking officials to declare federal holiday. Let us first petition MOON to unite our Ummah and then we can petition White House or any other local governments to declare holidays.
Even Bohra Holidays are not declared Holidays in the Country where they have sizable population
Silly Petition whether for Eid or Ashura till we get our acts together.
