Your doubts about the video is because of the accent of the news reader as the clip is from a news item covered by some western news channel. And even if you have doubts about the audio but the fact that 200 people were arrested in vadodara as mentioned in its heading is very much true and if you want then I can provide you with newspaper clippings which confirm the same.

“We are sensing an ‘Era of Terror’ coming back to Gujarat” feel Muslim professionals

“Is it Vibrant Gujarat or Violent Gujarat”

“Are we re-entering into the era of terror? Whether things are going out of control by Chief Minister Anandiben Patel? Why VHP is being given free hand and why is it that Gujarat police has started sheer discrimination against Muslims and turning a blind eye towards their pleas”?

These and many more questions, doubts, allegations and observations with specific cases were briefed to the media at a press conference in Ahmedabad on Thursday.

Focusing their talk on “Religious Hatred and Discrimination against Minorities” Muslim professionals including Kaleem Siddiqui (Editor ‘Tarkash’), Abdul Hafiz Lakhani (Secretary of Milli council - Gujarat) and Shamshad Pathan a promising advocate of Ahmedabad put forth few cases and explained that the law and order situation in Gujarat was fast going back to the days of fear and scare for the minorities specially the Muslims.

Serious allegations and grievances of discrimination echoed at the press meet. Siddiqui said “it looked as if the ‘era of terror’ was round the corner. With the tainted cops and seriously accused top police officers being taken back to jobs by the state government gives a clear message to the unjust and unfair as to there is government patronage for you. Of late we are witnessing a silent terror like atmosphere in the air of Gujarat especially in Ahmedabad and Vadodara where a kind of ‘Vanzara era’ of 2003-4-5 is glaring into the eyes of Muslims”.

Siddiqui stated that “On 30th August 2014 at 8 PM during a show on Zee News, Mahamandleshwer Naval Kishor Das made a hateful speech against holy Quran and Islam. When I went to Bapu Nagar police station to register an FIR against Mahamandleshwer Naval Kishordas & Sudhir Chowdhari (editor – Zee News) it was not accepted”.

Similarly, Siddiqui pointed out that one Viral Desai who is an activist of VHP (Bharuch) - has been hurting the feelings of Muslims but no action has been taken against him while a tea vendor Zakir Hussain Shaikh a tea vendor in Juhapura area was grilled by ATS and Crime branch.

Siddiqui pointed out that before elections the then Chief Minister and now the PM Narendra Modi had tried to pose Muslims rolling in money with Rs 700 cr kite business whereas it is not the truth. Siddiqui said a common man can also see the plight of people living in Jamalpur and such areas who make kites for 2, 3 rupees. If they are so well off why does their life style change. Go and see the plight of Muslim areas of Gujarat? argued Siddiqui.

Shamshad Pathan a leading advocate of Ahmedabad observed that “of late Muslims were being deprived of their basic rights – police was refusing to take their FIRs. In fact there were cases wherein those who went to lodge a complaint were humiliated, chased with lathis or even detained illegally.”

The trio said there was a clear rise of fear and scare among Muslims in Gujarat specially in Ahmedabad and Vadodara.

Siddiqui questioned the role of police which nabs Thasra’s Maulana for his alleged statement against garbhas but pays no attention towards several messages floating across provoking Muslims and hurting their statements, even when the attention has been drawn with names and details yet no action has been taken so far.

What does it explain? Siddiqui asked. Prime Minister’s silence over the police’s discrimination against Muslims in Gujarat was also very painful. Siddiqui said during his time as Chief Minister he could at least control VHP like fundamentalist elements who were now upsurging with evil designs. On the other hand police is turning a blind’s eye on Muslims’ pleas, where should Muslims go for getting justice and to lodge complaint.

Lakhani added that PM promised us that ‘achhe din aane wale ahi. But, for Muslims here in Gujarat is it not correct that “ache din chale gaye’? he questioned further making a point that slowly the terror and violence against Muslims who are already so backward and financially so poor in Gujarat it looks the much acclaimed ‘Vibrant Gujarat is turning out to be ‘Violent Gujarat’?

When asked about the forthcoming Bakr idd, Siddiqui and Lakhani stated that “Why does the government not arrange an open market for the Muslims and help them buy animals at fair prices, why are cows birth and complete records not maintained. They feared that it is actually a big business of the VHP which is hand in gloves with the bootleggers handling the slaughtering issue and made it a business for money and also to terrorise Muslims and spread the religious hatred against Muslims”. All this is taking place in the new ambience of police discrimination.

They said soon they were going to organize a bigger programme to put forth the cases in public.

Why Narendra Modi needs both 'Mohanlal' and Mohan Bhagwat

The prime minister has followed a dual strategy. He is invoking Gandhi to project himself as a statesman and yet, because he is essentially a politician, he has to take the RSS along as well

When Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed his favourite constituency of non-resident Indians, promising them an India of "their dreams", he asked them rhetorically: Gandhi gave us freedom, but what did we give him in return? A wag remarked on Twitter: "Sanghis' gave him a single bullet". Actually, it was three - Nathuram Godse touched Gandhi's feet before shooting him three times. Although the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has always denied any responsibility for the assassination of Gandhi, there is no doubt that the conspirators were Hindutva ideologues.

Gandhi has never really been owned by the RSS. Many in the RSS will even question why he is referred to as the Father of the Nation, because for them the idea of India precedes Gandhi by thousands of years. It is surprising, therefore, to see Modi, once an RSS-pracharak (proselytizer), invoking Gandhi repeatedly, most recently on his birthday, re-designated, Swachhta Diwas.

Modi has not engaged deeply with Gandhi's thought. He did not even care to get his name right. The Madison Square Garden speech was the second time Modi called Gandhi "Mohanlal". That he is no true acolyte of Gandhi was evident from the fact that he reinforced the stereotype of the lower castes being unclean by choosing to wield a broom in Valmiki Colony (Valmiki is a "scavenger" caste).

Modi also seems to need the RSS. He immediately scotched criticism of the state-run media for broadcasting RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's speech by praising it for addressing "important national issues". How do Gandhi and RSS sit comfortably in the political consciousness of Modi?

He is aware that he won the Lok Sabha election with only 31 per cent of the vote. That is only about 165 million Indians out of the 500 million who participated and voted for him, contrary to the claim of 1.25 billion Indians electing him in his speeches. Modi has since followed a dual strategy. He has to project himself as a statesman who is above politics and yet, because he is essentially a political animal, he has to take the RSS along as well. He needs its cadre in the elections, which take place almost round the year in some or other parts of India. While development slogans build a statesman-like image for Modi, it gets the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) only the additional floating vote of the middle class and the youth. Its base vote comes because of the Hindutva ideology.

Modi has grown up with this ideology and he owes his political life to it. The BJP also has no cadre of its own and depends on the RSS cadre for electoral legwork. The RSS knows that Bhagwat cannot win parliamentary elections. An ideologically repackaged full-time cadre like Narendra Modi can. But he has to polish the rough edges to make Hindutva electorally palatable.

Once he decided to bid for prime ministership, Modi had to fashion a new strategy. A neat division of labour became evident in the Lok Sabha election - while Modi delivered uplifting speeches and urged his followers to build the tallest statue of the first Home Minister of India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Amit Shah and the standing army of the Hindutva family of organisations polarised the voters on communal lines.

Having become the prime minister, the same dual strategy continues. Only this time, he has sought to selectively appropriate the symbol of Gandhi instead of Patel. The association is initiated through Modi's public speeches and government propaganda, it is intensified, however, by the media picking up and repeating those messages.

But the issues are selectively framed. The national campaign for cleanliness was projected as if the only thing holding India back was a failure of leadership, which, of course, Modi will now provide. If, for example, the issue of cleanliness had been framed differently by Modi and the media - say, in terms of public health, then the solution would not be just every citizen picking up a broom.

The issue would then have to be seen in terms of citizenship rights such as access to water, sanitary facilities, epidemiological profiles of populations, the role of local municipalities and their functioning, waste-disposal facilities, condition of housing, nature of livelihoods, living spaces, whether in cities, suburbs and villages and so on.

The moment one frames the issue as one of Modi sweeping with a broom and Gandhi as the metaphor, the mental framework and the methodology of understanding, discussing and making choices about public health and the issues of the citizenship are short-circuited. As Modi's personality gets a brand rub-off from Gandhi, perhaps India does not become significantly cleaner or healthier, or even attentive to the link between caste and manual scavenging, which Gandhi wanted to highlight in his campaign for "cleanliness".

Modi, the individual, is the recurring theme of his political communication and not the complex social issues that this country faces - whether of inclusion and exclusion, religious divisions, income disparities or unequal access to resources. In this way, he can safely invoke whatever popular symbol he chooses and also let Bhagwat and the RSS be promoted along with Gandhi, Patel and others.

What complicates trying to span these two different images - a great statesman prime minister and the brightest shining star of the Hindutva ideology - is constant electioneering. His political stardom makes him the first choice of the BJP as a campaigner. Modi is a great public speaker, but his campaign speeches also bring out unattractive aspects of his character - nastiness towards political opponents, cheap mimicry, slipping into the language of a street bully and selling false hope (like promising to change the formula of Pepsi to include real fruit juice in it).

The image that he so assiduously wants to cultivate - of a great statesman, the tea-seller's son who became prime minister and the philosopher King who will deliver India - then has to live with the dark and manipulative side of his leadership. Managing the two images is, therefore, going to be Prime Minister Narendra Modi's toughest task.

False Teachings for India's Students

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promised India’s youth a bright future. As he is well aware, realizing that promise will depend on dramatically increasing educational quality and opportunity for the 600 million Indians under age 25, many of whom lack basic reading and math skills. In its 2014 Election Manifesto, Mr. Modi’s party, the Bharatiya Janata Party, called education “the most powerful tool for the advancement of the nation and the most potent weapon to fight poverty.” The question now is whether educational reform will be used not just to create an educated citizenry and trained work force but also to promote a particular ideology.

While campaigning ahead of the May election, Mr. Modi, then the chief minister of the state of Gujarat, promised to bring the “Gujarat model” to national governance. Many voters understood this to mean a commitment to a more dynamic economy. But the Gujarat model has a less attractive side to it: a requirement that the state’s curriculum include several textbooks written by Dinanath Batra, a scholar dedicated to recasting India’s history through the prism of the Hindu right wing.

In February, Mr. Batra led a successful effort to pressure Penguin India to withdraw copies of a book by Wendy Doniger, a religion professor at the University of Chicago, which he felt insulted Hinduism. Then, in June, the Gujarat government directed that several of Mr. Batra’s own books be added to the state’s curriculum. Mr. Batra’s teachings range from the trivial to assertions that simply cannot be taken seriously. His books advise students not to celebrate birthdays with cakes and candles, a practice Mr. Batra considers non-Indian. More troublingly, they instruct students to draw maps of “Akhand Bharat,” a greater India, presumably restored to its rightful boundaries, that include Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Tibet, Nepal, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Mr. Batra also believes that aircraft, automobiles and nuclear weapons existed in ancient India, and he wants children to learn these so-called facts.

In 1999, the national government, then led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, put Mr. Batra in charge of rewriting history textbooks to reflect these and other views of the Hindu right. Now it appears that the party intends to pick up where it left off when it was voted out of power in 2004. Mr. Batra says Smriti Zubin Irani, the minister of human resource development, has assured him his books will soon be a part of the national curriculum. The education of youth is too important to the country’s future to allow it to be hijacked by ideology that trumps historical facts, arbitrarily decides which cultural practices are Indian, and creates dangerous notions of India’s place alongside its neighbors.

Will Narendra Modi Now Visit Israel?

During his US visit PM Narendra Modi, instead of ‘Jai Hind’, chanted RSS’s favourite slogan ‘Bharat Mata Ki jai’ and presented a copy of Bhagwat Gita to the American President as he had given to Chinese President.

In this visit his most important meeting was with Israeli Prime Mistier Netanyahu who gave a warm embrace to Modi and invited him to visit Israel. It should also be borne in mind that as Chief Minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi visited Israel in 2006 but it was kept hidden from the media. The warm affection shown for each other in this second meeting after 11 years was noteworthy. It was the impact of this warm enthusiasm that the Zionist Prime Minister said that in India-Israeli ties ‘sky is the limit.’

This meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israeli Prime Minister was held, following UN General Assembly, at New York Palace Hotel in which both leaders discussed wide range of issues including cooperation in defence and the situation in west Asia created by the Da’ish [ISIS].

In this more than half an hour meeting Netanyahu invited Narendra Modi to visit Israel. Recalling that he had been to Israel in his capacity as a chief minister Netanyahu expressed the hope that he would visit Israel as Prime Minister as well.

External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin later told media that the Prime Minister had taken note of the invitation and assured him that it would be discussed further through diplomatic channels. The spokesperson further said that the two leaders explored possibilities of mutual economic cooperation while, in addition to water management and agriculture, Israel offered its expertise in other areas as well.

What is noteworthy is that India-Israel relations are developing at a very fast pace. Following the formation of BJP Government at the Centre this relationship has become even warmer. Trade between the two countries has reached worth six billion dollars and new records are being set in defence cooperation. During the recent meeting between the two leaders India has offered Israel investment in defence industry up to 49 percent.

It should be borne in mind that at the moment Israel is the largest arm supplier to India. In addition there is an extraordinary cooperation between the two countries against terrorism. The basis of cooperation between Israel and India in defence and war on terror is that both assume that they are facing similar challenge from terrorism. The fact, however, is that Israel dubs defensive actions of oppressed Palestinians and Hamas as terrorism because Israel has taken their land by force and Palestinians are fighting to take it back. The situation in India is entirely different. Noteworthy point is that following Modi-Netanyahu meeting, Indian spokesperson clarified that the two leaders did not discuss the situation in Gaza. Prime Minister Modi also availed the opportunity to see Jewish community leaders.

I should remind the readers that the posture adopted by Modi Government on recent aggression of Israel on Gaza was in in violation of India’s foreign policy and Modi Government had made a deplorable attempt to equate and put the oppressor and the oppressed in the same category. In the first place a discussion in the parliament on the issue was refused. Later when, after a strong protest by the opposition, an attempt was made to able a resolution condemning Israeli aggression on Gaza, it was rejected by the Government on the plea that India and Palestine both are our friends.

This move of Modi Government was against India’s foreign policy on Palestine. During the recent Israeli attack on Gaza more than 2,000 innocent Palestinians were martyred large number of whom were children and women. Civilised world strongly protested and condemned such barbarism and atrocities but these condemnations had no effect on Israel. Despite Israeli aggression Modi Government took a pro-Israel stance and ignored India’s old friendship with 47 Muslim countries.

There is no doubt that India’s diplomatic ties with Israel were established in 1994 during Narasimha Rao’s rule but were boosted further in 1996 by Vajpayee led NDA Government. During NDA’s rule BJP’s senior leader and the then Foreign Minister Jaswant Singh travelled to Israel where he kissed the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem and made a statement that, ‘Establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Israel had been delayed because of pampering of minorities in India.’ Now that the BJP is in power for the second time, it now wants to take Israel-India relations to new heights, a desire expressed by Israeli Prime Minister in his statement that with regard to Israel-India ties ‘sky is the limit.’

It's about time that Muslims and Arabs realize that Israel is there to stay and if they have any brains, they should stop fighting and get out of the middle ages and start working for a future with jobs for their people and become good neighbors with Israel and live peacefully.

Is there any how we can detach those 47 Muslim countries, refraining them from doing trade with India. I'm not an anti India but I'm just sick of over rated support for this yazid(modi).

Some may might take this subject of resentment as a far cry but I've always held a belief that pen is mightier than sword (although money still remains mightiest).

There are so many traits of modi that is similar to hitler, although hitler stood headstrong for what he believed in, whereas this guy is just creating illusions for people on the grounds of national fervour, hence creating a channel to escape from his wrongdoings.

Why can't we just create a mind map to get this guy out of business. Expose his fallacies and his racist believes(I know people have tried). Most importantly, to create awareness amongst those Muslim countries and refrain them from doing business with India because that'll teach modi a lesson.

The so called democracy in India is dying out. In spite of incessant cases of bjps mischief and capitalistic ideology of bjp, people are still upholding their roots of support for modi.

The solution, we have great writers over here who can give in their intellect capabilities to jot down stinking letters that may abstain those Muslim countries from doing business with India. I know this sounds crazy but in this 21st century anything is possible.

Bro chocoman,

You have expressed some genuine concerns and Iam totally with you on it but the problem lies with the so called muslim countries also because they are Islamic only for namesake and the ones that can create a major impact on such issues are least concerned about what happens to the Muslim Ummah in the rest of the world. How many such countries have vehemently rallied against Israel for their atrocities on Palestinians ? How many have been able to bring a solution to the never ending strife in Iraq, Syria and Libya ? The rulers are just busy in their ayyashis and dance to the tune of their American and Israeli bosses. They have sold their souls to the devil !

The Gujarat Mass genocide engineered by Narendra Modi is very well documented and known worldwide and even then why didn't any of the Muslim countries raise this issue in international forums or file a case in the International Court of Justice ? How many countries spared a few of their petro dollars in rehabilitating the riot victims who are still living in relief camps ? How much aid was given to these victims ?

To call them 'Islamic' countries is an insult to this great religion because these countries have never been at the forefront when it comes to helping the Ummah, in fact they are the enemies of Islam because even when Saudi Arabia is bulldozing great religious sites in their country to pave way for 7 star hotels, no other Islamic country seems to have raised their voice against the destruction of these sacred places like the house of Hazrat Khadija a.s. wherein they have built a toilet and many such places which are sacred to Muslims worldwide.

We don't have good leaders even in India because the likes of Shahi Imam Bukhari, the Deobandi and Bohra cult are more concerned about their own safety and engaged in making money rather then even giving a thought on such a serious issue. When we have so called Islamic leaders like the Bohra Dai who felicitates the Yazid of today in a Masjid and gives him crores of rupees and when we have the Shia Muslims like Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, the Sunni Muslims like Shahnawaz Hussain and Asifa Khan holding key positions in Yazid's political party then what can you expect of them ?

I recollect an elder from my family once saying that when the British had conquered most of the world and were having difficulties in conquering Muslim ruled countries then a British writer had told them that Muslims are basically "Haakims" (Rulers), they have always ruled and to rule over them is almost impossible but you can do it but you have to work towards an agenda whereby you remove the love of their Prophet (s.a.w.) from their hearts and once you succeed then they will automatically bow down to you. Hence if you deeply analyse history and look at the present scenario then you will find that the Britishers have succeeded in their mission ! Nowadays we find the so called pious Muslims questioning the wisdom of Prophet (s.a.w.) and some even treat him like any other humanbeing, his greatness, his exhalted position, everything is just being systematically erased from the minds of Muslim Ummah. ( I know this line wont go well with some of the wahabis ).

Bro GM.

I cannot agree more with your justification of pseudo nationalism that is played by the so called muslim nations. However, I need to tell you this that the other day when I was in my class, our lecturer spoke about an Italian scientist who emphasised on the rule 80 and 20. By definition it means that the little things are the ones that creates a difference, I mean in the context of anything violence or good. For example you have this little crazy war mongers like ISIS who are creating a havoc in the world though their presence is debatable. Then you have Israel, again a small country that inordinately controls the largest "democracy" in the world. The then president, Ariel Sharon, himself has said "I want to tell you something very clear; Don't worry about the american pressure on Israel. We the people jewish people control America and the Americans know it".

There are clowns as my facebook friends who post things in regards to Indian nationalism and reiterating the policies introduced by BJP showing a strong support. There was one instance where he spoke highly about Israel, supporting their terror against Gaza. When I confronted him by writing a stinking reply, there were people all around abusing Islam therefore showing a strong support for Israel, but they fail to understand that Israel is a leech that is sucking out finance and has nothing to contribute anything but to provide weapons of destruction. It shows that so many of us are highly relied on media.

Yes, there are people who wrote against modi and but what if they didnt work hard enough to make themselves hear. Your above posts that speaks about modi building relations with Israel has really got me enraged. Just because he is a prime minister, he thinks he can do anything. I am not going to stay quite after witnessing all the images of those poor decapitated children which is embedded in my mind forever. If nothing happens here in this forum. I'm not going to keep quiet, My struggle will be intensified when I am done with my graduation.

My only motive that people should just know the truth. Sometimes back we had a wahabi vermin who wanted to pursue us to write an application against the Kothar to Saudi. Although, the attempt of that low lifer was useless as it would've ever been. But, unfortunately nobody cared to summon up all the wrongdoings of Israel and do something about it. Because we muslims are bunch of cowards and love to fight amongst ourselves.

In the context of muslim prowess in the world. My mother tells me that there was time that muslims were so highly regarded in terms of power and respect that no one had the courage to even make an eye to eye contact. But, now look at the circumstances that have drastically changed, muslims are persecuted everywhere in the world. Almost, the whole world thinks we're bunch of terrorists. Whenever, I enter this page and I see the picture of bohras bowing down to this guy, makes me cringe with anger. This is what muslims have come to? Infact some of the hard line hindu fanatics have used this same picture as a display pic for their anti islam page!!!!

The aim is that even detaching one muslim country that contributes in trade practices with India would be a win because with the support of document of India's relationship with this fascist regime Israel. It would be plausible to at least inject a sense of reckoning amongst the citizens and its government and highlight modis intentions. I hope you know that everything has a process and has its time, we just need to get started.

This movement would have diverse effects given that it is successful. Despite of achieving our objective, the reformists will get recognition world wide and simultaneously save the poor bohras who everyday are getting chewed up and spit out by the kothar.

In conclusion, in accordance with implications of this theory of 80 and 20. What if we can make a difference and create awareness to our fellows who are 'equal in humanity' and educate them about the real Islam and the muslims.

P.S - In my earlier post when I said that we have good writers, the prospect was to throw attention at you Bro GM and Al Zulfiqar.

nothing wrong in dealing with with israel
still it is better than dealing with so called lunatic muslim countries.
The chief culprit of the plight of the Palestinians is not Israel but the terrorists and fanatics who use them as tools of their ravenous bloodlust.

Black money case: Can't disclose names of foreign account holders, Modi govt tells SC

The Union government on Friday filed an application in the Supreme Court, saying it cannot disclose details of foreign accounts held by Indians which are governed by bilateral double taxation avoidance treaties.

Petitioner and senior advocate Ram Jethmalani said this is an attempt by Narendra Modi government to shield those who stashed black money abroad.

Jethmalani said such a plea could be made only by crooks who have illegally parked their ill-gotten money abroad and not by a democratically elected government
.

Outside the court, Jethmalani took a strong critical view of the finance minister and attorney general for making such an application to the court and said it could help only the criminals.

Jethmalani told the court that he has written a letter to the Prime Minister on this issue conveying his strong views against the application and requesting the PM to take it as his last wishes.

Modi’s Idea of India

Narendra Modi, India’s new prime minister and main ideologue of the Hindu-nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party, is stoking old Hindu rage-and-shame over what he calls more than a thousand years of slavery under Muslim and British rule. Earlier this month, while India and Pakistan were engaging in their heaviest fighting in over a decade, Mr. Modi claimed that the “enemy” was now “screaming.”

Since Mr. Naipaul defined it, the apocalyptic Indian imagination has been enriched by the exploits of Hindu nationalists, such as the destruction in 1992 of the 16th-century Babri Masjid mosque, and the nuclear tests of 1998. Celebrating the tests in speeches in the late 1990s, including one entitled “Ek Aur Mahabharata” (One More Mahabharata), the then head of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (the National Volunteers Association, or R.S.S), the parent outfit of Hindu nationalists, claimed that Hindus, a “heroic, intelligent race,” had so far lacked proper weapons but were sure to prevail in the forthcoming showdown with demonic anti-Hindus, a broad category that includes Americans (who apparently best exemplify the worldwide “rise of inhumanity”).

Mr. Modi doesn’t seem to know that India’s reputation as a “golden bird” flourished during the long centuries when it was allegedly enslaved by Muslims. A range of esteemed scholars — from Sheldon Pollock to Jonardon Ganeri — have demonstrated beyond doubt that this period before British rule witnessed some of the greatest achievements in Indian philosophy, literature, music, painting and architecture. The psychic wounds Mr. Naipaul noticed among semi-Westernized upper-caste Hindus actually date to the Indian elite’s humiliating encounter with the geopolitical and cultural dominance first of Europe and then of America.

Such crude xenophobia, now officially sanctioned in Mr. Modi’s India, seems only slightly less menacing than the previous R.S.S. chief’s wishful thinking about one more Mahabharata against demonic anti-Hindus. Japan’s expansionist gambles in China and the Pacific in the last century and, more recently, Russia’s irredentism in Ukraine show that a mainstreamed rhetoric of national aggrandizement can quickly slide into reckless warmongering. Certainly, the ruling classes of wannabe superpowers have spawned a complex force: the ideology of anti-imperialist imperialism, which, forming an axis with the modern state and media and nuclear technology, can make Islamic fundamentalists seem toothless. One can only hope that India’s democratic institutions are strong enough to constrain yet another wounded elite from breaking out for geopolitical and military manhood.

The U.S.-based lawsuit filed against Prime Minister Narendra Modi is progressing

A federal court in New York has signalled its intention to take forward a lawsuit filed in the U.S. against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi by issuing an order on October 21 calling on the plaintiffs to explain why Mr. Modi was not immune from prosecution for allegedly presiding over the 2002 anti-Muslim pogrom that took place in Gujarat.

U.S. Judge Analisa Torres asked the American Justice Center (AJC), a non-profit human rights organisation, to respond to a “suggestion of immunity,” submitted to the Federal District Court for the Southern District of New York on October 19 by U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara. Mr. Bharara was prompted to do so by a September 30 letter from the State Department, which argued that “a prompt dismissal of the proceedings,” could have “significant policy implications.”

The lawsuit against Mr. Modi filed by the AJC argues that under the Alien Tort statutes the plaintiffs including “Asif,” “Jane Doe,” and multiple “John Doe’s,” said to be victims of the communal violence in Gujarat, were entitled to compensatory, punitive and exemplary damages and a declaration that Mr. Modi’s alleged conduct “amounted to ‘Genocide’” according to court documents.

Last month, even as Mr. Modi was attending numerous meetings with business and community leaders in New York City and then a summit meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama, the District Court issued a summons against the Prime Minister to answer the charges made against him.

Notably, the State Department letter on the “suggestion of immunity” for Mr. Modi does not comment on the merits of the case against the Prime Minister, and only emphasises his immunity from prosecution under U.S. common law principles and customary international law, that too only “while in office.”

A question that may be critical to the unravelling of the legal web around the immunity issue is the U.S. government’s view on whether immunity enjoyed at the present time by a foreign dignitary is retroactive, or applies to past acts as well, when that dignitary was not a head of government.

“Generally speaking, if there’s a change in immunity… because of a different diplomatic status that immunity would start on the date it’s conferred,”

Yet if that is in fact what U.S. law dictates, or that is what the current administration’s position is, then it may find little room for manoeuvre to argue for personal inviolability and immunity from subsequent prosecution for Mr. Modi for a complaint based on acts that he was said to have committed more than a decade before he became India’s Prime Minister.

The plaintiffs in the case appear not to be unaware of this point, and this week Mr. Pannun said, “The selective and arbitrary approach of the U.S. Department of Justice on the issue of immunity to foreign leaders will be the key factor in challenging the immunity to PM Modi.”

A Very Thought Provoking Article :-

Modi Sarkar: Politics Through Culture

By Ram Puniyani

The change in the ruling dispensation (May 2014) has more than one aspect which is likely to affect the very social-cultural-political map of India. Narendra Modi won the last elections with an electoral success, 282 seats for BJP, with 31% of votes polled, which is a landmark for a party. There was a meticulous planning to come to power and there were many factors bringing them to power. One was the communal polarization carried forward from the Gujarat carnage of 2002, to the one witnessed in Muzzafarnagar in 2013. The unrestrained support of Corporate World was another, as Modi had given all the facilities to the Corporate World. Corporate in 2007 declared that they will like to see Modi as the future Prime Minister of India. The backbone of the campaign was seven lakh RSS volunteers, who acted as the steel frame of the campaign. The projected factors helping BJP win was the myth of Gujarat's development. The media management and the discrediting of the ruling Congress was the effective tool for swinging the votes in BJP's favor. RSS-BJP-Modi want to bring in Hindu nation trampling upon the values of Indian Constitution., which have laid the foundation of democratic ethos, which have provided the ground for social transformation of caste-gender.

Pattern of Power

The previous time, 1999, BJP came to power at the head of a NDA it did not have the simple majority so it suspended its “Hindutva' agenda. Hindutva agenda stands for abolition of article 370, Uniform Civil Codes and building of Ram Temple on the site where Babri Masjid stood. Now with the majority in parliament, the march towards this Hindutva agenda has been unleashed. Modi has already instilled the authoritarian streak in the new Government. Secretaries of different departments have been asked to directly report to him, and he has not permitted the meeting of the Cabinet in his absence, which was the norm with previous Governments. Though there is a Cabinet, the major power is being centralized around the prime minister.

Acche Din

The major plank of winning the elections was the slogan of Acche din (Good Times). The people at large, who are victims of the rising prices and inflation, were sold the dream of better days in the offing with victory of Modi. The relentless rise of prices despite Modi coming to power has created a sense of disillusion amongst the people, as high hopes were created through propaganda. Some say it is a bit too early to comment on this, as it is a honeymoon period, while others point to the pattern of policies, which do not give a hopeful picture for times to come. FDA in retail has been raised from 26% to 49% in a single swoop. While in opposition; BJP was opposing it. This is an opportunist turn around. The fear of privatization of public sector is very much there in the air. The amendments to Land Acquisition bill are going to affect the interests of the farmers in a very adverse way. What is being proposed is to dilute the consent of majority of the farmers for acquiring land.

Changed Dispensation: Sectarian mindset

Many times we express more by keeping silence than by speaking, so to say. The Pune techie Mohsin Sheikh's murder allegedly by the Hindu Jagran Sena was part of the well designed communalization process. The violence in Saharanpur, Rampur and other parts of UP and some parts of MP are part of the process to communalize the assembly areas, which are going to face the polls soon. The silence of Prime Minister on these issues is more than eloquent. Rather it gives signal of sorts, which are not very healthy. There are scattered incidents which give us the glimpse of the Modi Sarkar. The shrewdest part of the new Government is that it has solid backing of vast Sangh Parivar to speak in different languages[/b]; these different tongues make the whole picture of their agenda. In case of the tennis star Sania Mirza being appointed as the brand ambassador of the newly formed Telangana state, the BJP leaders on TV openly opposed this saying that she is the daughter-in-law of Pakistan, while the top level functionary of the Government said that she is pride of the nation.

Education

All said and done the major problem of the present rule is going to be the changes in education, which will alter the thinking pattern of the coming generations. The goal is to instill a pattern in consonance with the Brahminical norms, to promote orthodox medieval mind set and to undermine the scientific temper. One recalls that in the previous BJP led NDA regime apart from other things, its major impact was the changes in the history and social science books, where the divisive history taught in the RSS shakhas, the communal history, the history where the kings are looked at through the prism of religion, was introduced. One knows that the communal historiography introduced by British was their main tool in implementing the ‘divide and rule' policy which formed the ideology of the communal streams of Muslim League and Hindu Mahasabha-RSS. This type of history; by focusing on the glories of ‘our' kings also promotes the feudal values of caste and gender hierarchy. Mercifully the BJP led NDA lost in 2004 and the rational, national historiography was brought back.

Now already there are signs that RSS volunteers are out to change the total education system and the content of history, social science and other books. Even before this Government came to power, with the rise of Modi on political firmament, with the perception that he is likely to come to power, the Right wing organizations intensified their offensive against genuine scholarship. Dinanath Batra, by now is a well known name, he has been heading the RSS outfits, Shiksha Bachao Abhiyan Samiti and RSS-affiliated Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas (SSUN) from many decades . He succeeded in pressuring Penguin, the World's largest publisher, to pulp Wendy Doniger's scholarly book ‘The Hindus: An Alternate History'. This book brings out through the interpretation of mythology the need to understand the caste and gender aspects in a sensitive manner. The history she has focused on goes against the hierarchical mind set of RSS combine and so pressure was put to pulp it. Now Mr. Batra emerges as a writer himself and a set of nine books written by him have been translated in to Gujarati and introduced in 42000 schools in Gujarat. This may be a trial run before doing similar things at larger scale. Former BJP president and present union minister M Venkaiah Naidu explicitly stated as early as last year (June 23, 2013) that “it (the BJP) will change textbook syllabi, if it returns to power”. Batra is also quoted as saying that a nationalistic education system has to be developed to address the requirements and through this we have to develop a young generation that is committed to Hindutva and nationalism”.

The sampling of Batra's books gives a good idea of what is in store for us. A quote from one of the set of books, ‘Tejonmaya Bharat', (Radiant Bharat) tells us “America wants to take the credit for invention of stem cell research, but the truth is that India's Dr Balkrishna Ganpat Matapurkar has already got a patent for regenerating body parts…You would be surprised to know that this research is not new and that Dr Matapurkar was inspired by the Mahabharata. Kunti had a bright son like the Sun itself. When Gandhari, who had not been able to conceive for two years, learnt of this, she underwent an abortion. From her womb a huge mass of flesh came out. (Rishi) Dwaipayan Vyas was called. He observed this hard mass of flesh and then he preserved it in a cold tank with specific medicines. He then divided the mass of flesh into 100 parts and kept them separately in 100 tanks full of ghee for two years. After two years, 100 Kauravas were born of it. On reading this, he (Matapurkar) realized that stem cell was not his invention. This was found in India thousands of years ago. (Page 92-93)

Indian rishis using their yog vidya would attain divya drishti (divine vision) . There is no doubt that the invention of television goes back to this… In Mahabharata, Sanjaya sitting inside a palace in Hastinapur and using his divya shakti would give a live telecast of the battle of Mahabharata… to the blind Dhritarashtra. (Page 64) What we know today as the motorcar existed during the Vedic period. It was called anashva rath. Usually a rath (chariot) is pulled by horses but an anashva rath means the one that runs without horses or yantra-rath, what is today a motorcar. The Rig Veda refers to this. (Page 60)

RSS has already set up a consultative body called Bharatiya Shiksha Niti Ayog (BSNA) to put pressure on Modi's government to “correct or Indianize” the national education system. In the new syllabus “The passages in the textbooks which pointed out to any unsavory aspect of the Hindu faith like the oppressive caste system in ancient Hindu society, untouchability of the low-caste people and consumption of beef during Vedic ages were scrapped, and anyone who resisted or opposed the changes was dubbed as 'anti-national'.

Caste and Gender

While these changes in the text books give us a full idea of the agenda of this Government, which will have to follow the guidelines set by its parent organization, its already manifest in the appointment of Prof Y.Sudarshan Rao as the chief of ICHR. This national body guides the research into the Indian history. Prof Rao is not much known in the circles of Academic history, as he has hardly written any academic, peer reviewed papers or books. He has been engaged with writing few blogs on his understanding of history, which is more of a fiction suiting the agenda of Hindu Rashtra, reinstating the caste system in particular. In one of his blogs he emphasis that caste system served the society very well and there are no complaints against it. As per him “ Most of the questionable social customs in the Indian society as pointed out by the English educated Indian intellectuals and the Western scholars could be traced to this period of Muslim rule in north India spanning over seven centuries.” He argues that “ The (caste) system was working well in ancient times and we do not find any complaint from any quarters against it.” This is a distortion. The customs related to caste oppression were integral to the so called Hindu scriptures Vedas (Rig Veda, Purush Sukta) Upanishad, (2) the scriptures which were written in the Pre Historic BC period. Even in Manu smiriti the caste division is well articulated. Manu Smriti was written around 1-2 and Century AD. Contrary to this Prof Rao states that distortion in caste system came with the coming of Muslim Kings. He had so far been working on proving the historicity of our mythological Mahabharat as a part of History. Interestingly RSS combine presents only one version of Ramayan but there are nearly 400 versions of Ramayan. The scholarly essay by A.K.Ramanujam on the diversity of Ramayan telling again was withdrawn from Delhi University curriculum, and the publisher forced to withdraw the book.

With the coming of this Government the peripheral elements have started talking about making these scriptures as a part of our curriculum. Justice Dave talks of bringing in Gita and others are talking of Ramayana. Both these holy tomes have heavy projections of caste. In Gita, Lord talks of taking birth whenever Dharma is in danger. And this Dharma is Varnashram Dharma (Varna system). In Ramayan Lord Ram kills Shambuk, as Shambuk a Shudra is doing penance and this is something not permitted by Caste system.

Fringe Elements or Division of Labor

VHP supremo and RSS member Ashok Singhal has also called Modi “an ideal swayamsevak” and emphatically declared that Muslims must respect the sentiments of the Hindu culture, threatening that “they cannot survive for long by opposing Hindus”. He has also asked Muslims to give up their claims on Ayodhya, Mathura and Kashi. The idea is to reduce Muslims to second class citizens with no privileges and rights. Another firebrand VHP leader Pravin Togadia, known for his ‘hate speeches', has endorsed these views by issuing a warning to the Muslims, saying they may have forgotten the 2002 Gujarat riots but would remember the Muzaffarnagar riots of last year.

Goa 's deputy chief minister Francis D'Souza apologized for his comment that India was already a Hindu nation. This was a tactical retreat. He was the one who said that all Indians are Hindus. Christians are Christian Hindus for example. Deepak Dhavalikar another BJP member stated that under Modi India will become a Hindu Rashtra. This is what the deeper part of RSS-BJP-Modi agenda, to see that the religious minorities adopt the Brahminical Hindu norms. That's why they want that to use terms like Christian Hindus or Ahmadiya Hindus. Gradually, the assertion will be that since you are a Hindu you must practice Hindu norms.

On the long term agenda of RSS-BJP-Modi one needs to see the statement of RSS worker Joshi, “During a question-and-answer session, a volunteer asked Yadavrao Joshi, then the head of Sangh workers across all of south India, “We say RSS is a Hindu organisation. We say we are a Hindu nation, India belongs to Hindus. We also say in the same breath that Muslims and Christians are welcome to follow their faith and that they are welcome to remain as they are so long as they love this country. Why do we have to give this concession? Why don't we be very clear that they have no place if we are a Hindu country?” Joshi replied “As of now, RSS and Hindu society are not strong enough to say clearly to Muslims and Christians that if you want to live in India, convert to Hinduism. Either convert or perish. But when the Hindu society and RSS will become strong enough we will tell them that if you want to live in India and if you love this country, you accept that some generations earlier you were Hindus and come back to the Hindu fold.”

So where are we heading to becomes clear in the last few weeks of Modi Sarkar. The government will be trying to stick to the language which will be subtle while undertaking steps in Hinduization. Its associates, VHP-RSS will tell us bluntly about their agenda. Needless to repeat that this agenda, being unfolded is that of Hindu nation, where religious minorities will be relegated to secondary position and the Chaturvarnya system will be slipped in a subtle manner.

Is the Gujarat model playing out again in East Delhi's Trilokpuri?

Patterns of communal moblisation evident in the western state seem to be recognisable in East Delhi last month and western UP last year.

To conclude, communalism is a vehicle for power and control in India. It is a training ground in organisational tactics and network building, a tool for creating fear and submission, and even extracting revenge for real or imagined transgressions. The mechanisms of communalising a situation may change over time. The photocopied pamphlets used to circulate rousing poetry and rumours in late 20th century Gujarat, have given way to mass SMSes and Whatsapp messages in UP today. However, the “institutionalised riot system” as the political scientist Paul Brass termed it, is very much in place.

The current debate over communalism is likely to feature in the theatres of upcoming elections such as Delhi, for some more weeks. But communalism as a political great game is insidious and pervasive. We are witnessing yet another chapter today.

In the context of Modi-RSS propaganda of a hindu nation, Kothar is playing good politics. The actions and rituals of bohras are getting more and more aligned to hinduistic rituals, letting the bohras blend into hindu culture. It is a common acceptable norm In india for sadhu babas ( religious godmen) of various philosophies to prosper and built on a large fan following, regardless of the ignorance ( jahiliaat) and superstitions it promotes. Bohra DAI have been elevated to mystical supernatural beings akin to devtaas of Ishwars. But in a hindutva ideological governance, bohra/kothar will have to maneuver smart politically to survive in such environment.

Complex times we are living in ! ironically and sadly kothar politics seems to work as survival strategy in such polarized anti-muslim india.

Detention of Muslims in Gujarat rising to post-2002 riot figure

One obvious reason of the rise could be the rise in total number of detenues – from 356 in 2009 to 646 in 2013. However, free use of preventive detention laws against minorities is also counted as one of the reasons behind steep jump in percentage of Muslim detenues in the state.

“Muslim population in Gujarat jails is high. Our population (in the state) is just under 10%. Muslim convicts figure is about 23%, undertrials about 23%, but detenues 35%. The last figure reflects the free use of preventive detention laws,” says human rights activist Prof J S Bandukwala, Vadodara resident Prof. Bandukwala himself has been detained several times in the past.

“Muslims, including myself, have been arrested on such strong laws as NSA or MISA or TADA or POTA. Any hint of Muslim unrest leads to arrest of innocents of that area. It creates a panic situation, as residents literally flee their homes to avoid going to jail or comply with monetary demands from policemen,” says retired academician Bandukwala.

He opposes these laws terming them as violative of human rights.

“We have opposed these preventive detention laws as violative of our human rights. Yet political parties that get elected with our support, back these laws once they are in power. Muslims pay the price in the name of national security,” he says.

Is Modi using Black Money as proverbial carrot?

“Not me, not you. Even the previous government did not have any idea about the figure,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the nation on his Sunday Radio address".

Months ago, Modi as BJP’s prime ministerial candidate reportedly had promised that every Indian would get Rs.15 lakhs into his account if all the black money returned back to India. So the question now is how he arrived at the Rs 15 lakh figure when he had no idea about the quantum of black money.

After coming to power in New Delhi, the narrative of the BJP and its leader has taken a beating retreat on the issue of black money, with the prime minister now accepting before the nation that he was not even aware of the quantum of money stashed in the foreign banks
.

Even Nitin Gadkari in January 2011 had said that “any reluctance in declaring the names of Swiss bank account holders will simply raise doubts about the integrity of people at the helm.”

“BJP had spent hundreds of crores (of rupees) on election campaign during the Lok Sabha polls, how can it (BJP) bring back black money? BJP and Modi have failed to fulfil their promises to bring back black money soon after coming to power,”

Some experts have also pointed out that under the present treaty the names might not be made public but Prime Minister Narendra Modi had tweeted that “Today I want to share something and I am sure the people trust me when I say this. It is about black money. Please trust this Pradhan Sevak, the issue is an article of faith for me. From what I am understanding and the information that I have I am telling you that we are on the right direction.”

The question is how to analyse the tweets of the prime minister who is known as a good task master. Is he really going to take an unconventional route and try to fulfil the promise that he made to the electorates of the country? Or, with assembly polls round the corner in some states, is he using the black money issue again as proverbial carrot?

RSS uses Modi as recruitment tool: Sangh chief Bhagwat tells would-be members his shakhas 'produce PMs'

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat has put the shakha at the very centre of the resurgent right, saying that the hour-long morning sessions “produce prime ministers”.

Addressing a rather affluent cross-section of Agra residents on the third and closing day of the Sangh’s Yuva Sankalp Shivir at Astha camp on the Agra-Mathura highway on Monday, Bhagwat invited his audience to join the RSS and understand how a simple boy who attends a shakha in “half-pant” one day becomes Prime Minister of the country.

“You need to be a member of the RSS and attend our one hour shakha every day. Then only you will know how a member who wears half-pant in the shakha one day becomes prime minister. One hour of shakha has given two prime ministers to the country,” he said without taking the name of present Prime Minister Narendra Modi or former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Unusually for an RSS Sarsanghchalak, Bhagwat took pride in referring to the growing political clout of the organisation.

“We don’t work in coordination with each other. But we have our cadres in the BJP who believe in the agenda of the RSS and mount pressure on them to accept it. We also suggest several things to the BJP but it is up to them to accept or reject our suggestions,” he said.

Bhagwat also reiterated his Hindutva vision, declaring that “Bharatiyata (Indianness) and Hindutva are same. Those who look at it differently don’t understand the essence of Hindustan.”

“We don’t consider Bharat as a mere piece of land. Those who have Bharatiyata live in Bharat (India). Pakistan, Nepal and Tibet discarded Indianness. This is why they are facing several problems. Hindus are dominant in Bharat and this is why we have succeeded in retaining Indianness in India,” he said.

“Those who wanted partition of India had said that they would live in Pakistan. They didn't say that they would be in India. They said Pakistan would be for the Muslims and India would be for the Hindus. The RSS doesn’t hesitate in reminding the world these realities of India.”

The RSS chief said “Love Jihad” was taking place in the country in a systematic manner and it could be prevented by enactment of a law against it.

“We believe that it is a planned conspiracy against our daughters. It should be opposed at every level. There should also be a law in the country to prevent it. But we should also impart cultural training to our daughters so that they can understand such nefarious designs of those involved on Love Jihad,” he said.

Bhagwat said the population of India is 121 crore out of which 40 lakh people are RSS members. Presently the RSS holds 30,000 daily shakhas across the country. There are 60,000 RSS units that hold weekly meetings. The Sangh target is one crore members by 2025.

The increasing importance of one’s association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the parent organisation of the Sangh Parivar, for the rise in the BJP’s ranks is discernible from the applications submitted by ticket aspirants for the upcoming municipal elections in Rajasthan.

Some have mentioned their participation in the Ram Shila Pujan in 1990 and the subsequent Kar Seva in Ayodhya that led to the controversial demolition of the Babri Masjid. A few claim to have been with Governor and then UP Chief Minister Kalyan Singh during that time.

Rajnath Singh in Jerusalem today, Israel says visit 'very significant'

JERUSALEM: India's security ties with Israel, including cooperation in counterterrorism, are expected to receive a major fillip during home minister Rajnath Singh's visit here.

Israeli government has gone out of the way to accommodate the Indian home minister and the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office was quick to reschedule his meeting with the premier for Thursday.

"India is a very important ally for us and we view the home minister's visit as very significant. We are looking forward to fruitful discussions that will strengthen cooperation between the two countries", a senior government source told PTI.

It will be the first visit of an Indian home minister to Israel since June 2000 when LK Advani visited Jerusalem, marking an upsurge in bilateral cooperation.

The home minister's visit comes close on the heels of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting with Netanyahu on the sidelines of the UN general assembly in New York.

During that meeting, Netanyahu had said that "sky is the limit" in terms of prospects of cooperation between the two countries, seeking "greater and greater" ties with India.

Netanyahu was among the first global leaders to call Narendra Modi to congratulate him on his victory in the general election
.

India is Israel's largest purchaser of defence equipment and the Jewish state is the second largest supplier of arms and armaments to New Delhi, next only to Russia.

Singh will try to impress upon Israeli defence industries to take advantage of the new policies to manufacture in India as per Modi's 'Make in India" initiative and assure Israeli manufacturers of a simple regulatory framework to obtain clearances within a given time frame.

BJP's elevation to power has generated a lot of enthusiasm here, amid a flurry of activities, raising hopes that relations would reach a "new high" as seen during the previous NDA government led by Atal Behari Vajpayee.

The most tragic part of the present parliament is that, there is no opposition in it. The Government is free to make its policies as per the agenda of the ruling parties think tank. Implementation of the promises through election manifesto has been relegated ..The Governmrent is prioritising it's hidden agenda first in this period when the opposition is under the impact of its sweeping wins. A big decision of purchasing arms from Israel has been taken unilaterally, not a murmur of protest from any corner. Even though all earlier governments were mindful of the mindsets of the major minority population of the country about Israel and its hatred against Muslims. Yet Advani in earlier NDA Government wasted no time to rush to Israel and establish relations. Now Modi is going to strengthen them may be with the same aim of making the Muslims feel uncomfortable .
