RSS to push for renaming roads named after Mughals

Now that the decision to rename the Capital’s Aurangzeb Road after the former President, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, has been red-flagged for violating a central law, efforts are afoot from within the Sangh Parivar to push for amending the 1975-vintage guideline barring such rechristening.

To counter the Citizens for Democracy — which on Saturday reminded the government of its own statement in Parliament as recently as April 21, 2015, about the decision not to change names of existing roads in the Capital because of the logistics involved — RSS activist Rajeev Gupta, who is associated with the Shiksha Bachao Andolan Samiti (SBAS), met Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju on Monday to press for changing the guidelines to rename all roads in the city that bear names of Mughal rulers.

Since online petitions are circulating against the renaming of Aurangzeb Road, he has also started one of his own calling for rechristening other roads named after not just Mughal rulers, including Akbar Road, but also those belonging to the Delhi Sultanate — Lodhi Road and Tughlaq Road.

In a related statement, the Muslim Rashtriya Manch, another Sangh organisation, said all nationalist citizens should welcome the renaming of the Aurangzeb Road as the former President’s contributions were far greater than the Mughal ruler’s.

Though the RSS-backed SBAS is keeping a low profile on this front, its founder Dinanath Batra told The Hindu that “this has been our thinking all along.”

If Muslims give birth to more than two children, it should be made a “punishable criminal offence and ration, jobs and educational facilities should be then stopped for them,” suggests Vishwa Hindu Parishad working president Pravin Togadia.

He said Hindus were in danger of “extinction” and soon might “vanish” just like “river Saraswati and other birds, beautiful/large animals” and species of trees, if the population of Muslims was not checked.

In a column published in the RSS mouthpiece, Organiser, Dr. Togadia selectively cited data from various census reports, in particular, the latest one, to allege a theory that there was a “population jihad” in the country. His reference was to a higher growth rate of Muslims in India in comparison to the Hindus.

Rajasthan hospital to try out cow urine 'disinfectant'

Cow urine could replace phenyl as a disinfectant in Jaipur's Sawai Man Singh (SMS) hospital, one of the biggest government-run hospitals in northern India, if a pilot project by the Rajasthan government to test its 'effectiveness' succeeds.

Following the directions of state health minister Rajendra Rathore, the SMS hospital administration is all set to test the effectiveness of 'Gau Clean', a swadeshi disinfectant manufactured by a trust that runs a 'gau mutra' (cow urine) refinery at Pathmeda in Sirohi district.

SMS hospital superintendent Dr Man Prakash Sharma said in the wards where 'Gau Clean' will be tested for 15 days, phenyl will not be used. "We have constituted a committee of three doctors which will test the effectiveness of the 'gau mutra' disinfectant." The committee will analyse its use in the ICU, on various medical equipment, hospital floor and various other properties as a disinfectant and a report will be submitted to the government.

The hospital is in the process of identifying the areas where the new product will be tested. The administration has already received 50 bottles of 'Gau Clean' for the pilot project.

Confirming the state government's move, Rajasthan's minister of Gaupalan (cow-rearing) department Otaram Dewasi told TOI on Wednesday, "Our primary aim is to find out how cow can become a source of income. If we want people to keep cow, then it should also earn some revenue. At Pathmeda gaushala, the researchers are trying to make products from cow urine so that it could become a source of income."

He said once the 'effectiveness' of the disinfectant manufactured in Pathmeda is tested at the SMS hospital, the government will take the next step. "Once 'Gau Clean' gets the licence from the Ayurveda department, it can be used in other government offices, buildings and even people will buy it from the market," Dewasi added.

Rohini Salian names NIA officer who told her to ‘go soft’

Former Special Prosecutor Rohini Salian has disclosed that it was Suhas Warke, a Superintendent of Police in the National Investigation Agency (NIA), who asked her to “go soft” against the accused in the 2008 Malegaon blasts case after the NDA came to power.

More than three months after Salian’s interview to The Indian Express, the first disclosure on the name of the agency officer has been made in an affidavit she filed in a matter relating to initiation of contempt proceedings against NIA for “tending to hamper the judicial process,” resulting in “weakening of the prosecution’s case”.

“I am told that a criminal contempt petition is filed before this Honb’le court and in administration of justice and as an officer of the court, I am disclosing the name of the NIA officer, who had tried to interfere with the delivery of the administration of justice, as a messenger. His name is Suhas Warke, SP, NIA, Mumbai branch,” Salian said in her affidavit.

The affidavit, which was filed before the Bombay High Court, has now been submitted in the Supreme Court along with a petition asking it to pay heed to revelations made in the affidavit and issue appropriate orders against the NIA in the interest of justice.

In the affidavit, Salian has referred to her interview to The Indian Express, published on June 25. “I reiterate and affirm that whatever I have stated in my interview to the newspaper Indian Express... is true and correct and I reiterate the same as it is specifically stated therein,” she said, adding that the incident happened in the second or third week of June 2014.

In the interview, Salian had said that she was under pressure from the NIA to “go soft” in the case. Soon after the NDA government came to power last year, she said she got a call from one of the officers of the NIA — the agency is investigating terror cases involving alleged Hindu extremists — asking to come over to speak with her.

“He didn’t want to talk over the phone. He came and said to me that there is a message that I should go soft,” Salian had told The Indian Express. She was subsequently de-notified by the NIA from its panel of lawyers but the Home Ministry is still to take a final call on her removal. But she had not disclosed the name of the NIA officer.

The Malegaon blast on September 29, 2008 claimed four lives and injured 79 while another blast at the same time in Modasa in Gujarat killed one. Investigations in the case pointed to alleged Hindu extremists based in Indore, as first reported by The Indian Express on October 23, 2010.

Of 14 arrested accused persons, four were granted bail between 2011 and 2013 when Salian led the NIA’s case in the Bombay High Court.

In fact: History, background of Sanatan Sanstha’s war on ‘evildoers’

The Sanatan Sanstha, one of whose members was arrested last month for this February’s murder of rationalist Govind Pansare, recently said it felt more confident with BJP-led governments in both Mumbai and Delhi — as compared to when the Congress-NCP ruled Maharashtra, and had prepared a 1,000-page dossier on its activities.

Given the fact that the Sanstha has been “espousing the cause of Hindutva”, the BJP’s difficulty in criticising it is obvious. And the party’s partner in government, the Shiv Sena, which has repeatedly demonstrated that it is itself not averse to indulging in violence to make a political point, has stood rock-solid behind the Sanstha.

The Sanstha, which claims to have millions of followers in Maharashtra and elsewhere in the country and the world, presents itself as a spiritual organisation that works for social uplift and national security, and to rekindle dharma, protect “seekers” (of the path of righteousness) and destroy “evildoers”. It espouses the cause of Hindu Rashtra, and frequently organises Dharma Jagruti Sabhas to “awaken” people.

To propagate its views, the Sanstha employs moral science lectures, satsangs, videos and printed literature. In the years since its inception in 1990, the Ponda-headquartered organisation has entered into ideological coalitions with local Hindu extremist groups to spread rapidly in Maharashtra and Karnataka, besides Goa.

According to Shyam Manav, who worked closely for many years with the Sanstha’s founder Dr Jayant Balaji Athavale, the organisation’s focus is chiefly on sadhana or meditation. Athavale, according to Manav, was a master hypnotist who could send sadhaks into a deep trance, after which they would be prepared to do anything for the sake of dharma, including sacrificing their lives.

“The sadhaks are programmed to carry out the task of acting against those whom the Sanatan considers evil-doers preventing the formation of the Ishwari Rajya (divine kingdom),”
Manav said.

To this worldview, rationalists like Dabholkar and Pansare appeared as diabolical “evildoers”. After Dabholkar’s murder, Sanstha mouthpiece Sanatan Prabhat said in an editorial that “it was better that he (Dabholkar) died this way, rather than dying of some disease”. According to Dabholkar’s Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti, the slain rationalist had been getting threats in the mail, by email, and through Sanatan Prabhat articles for at least seven years before he was murdered in the heart of Pune city on August 20, 2013. A picture of Dabholkar’s, marked with a red cross, was pulled out of the Sanstha web site immediately after the killing.

The Sanstha had filed a Rs 10 crore suit against Pansare for making a speech that allegedly defamed their “ideals”. Before his death, Pansare had received a letter threatening he would meet the same fate as Dabholkar — “Tumcha Dabholkar karoo ka?” — according to his family.

The Sanstha has been under the scanner in four bombings in Panvel, Thane, Vashi (all in 2007) and Madgao (in 2009). In 2011, two alleged Sanstha members were given 10 years in jail for the Panvel and Thane attacks, but were released on bail two years later. In 2009, two alleged members — Malgonda Patil and Yogesh Naik — were killed after the IED they were ferrying went off.

RSS India's number 1 terror group: Former Mumbai police officer

Claiming that the activists of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) have been indicted in at least 13 terror cases across India, former Maharashtra inspector general of police S M Mushrif on Thursday described the BJP's ideological mentor as India's number one terrorist organisation.

"RSS activists have been chargesheeted in at least 13 cases of terror acts in which RDX has been used. If organisations like Bajrang Dal are taken into the account, then the number of such cases goes up to 17," Mushrif said at an event in Kolkata.

"The RSS is India's number one terrorist organisation, there is no doubt on this," said Mushrif, referring to the 2007 Mecca Masjid bombing in Hyderabad, the 2006 and 2008 Malegaon blasts in Maharashtra and the 2007 Samjhauta Express bombings among others.

Mushrif, however, asserted that "saffron terror" had no bearing on which party was in power.

"The RSS as a terror organisation has nothing to do with political power. It is immaterial which party is in power. It is the system that is working, it's the Brahminical system. And when I say Brahminical, it doesn't mean the Brahmin, it's the mentality, the attitude to dominate and oppress," he said.

However, Mushrif was not in agreement with the view that intolerance was rising in recent times. "Intolerance has been going on for a long time. There have been many severe bigger incidents earlier, I don't understand why it is being highlighted now," he asked.

Reiterating his claims that the Intelligence Bureau (IB) masterminded the killing of Hemant Karkare, who was probing the involvement of Hindu radicals in terror acts, during the Mumbai terror attack in 2008, Mushrif called for a people's movement to establish the truth behind the killing of the Mumbai Anti-Terrorism Squad chief.

"There is clinching evidence about the IB's involvement but all efforts to establish that have been defeated. Our efforts to call for an independent probe have always been defeated. Unless there is a massive public movement, this will never be established," said Mushrif, who made the sensational claims in his book "Who Killed Karkare".

Mushrif, along with national award winning music director and former Trinamool Lok Sabha member Kabir Suman, was speaking at an event to commemorate Karkare's martyrdom.

Hindu Group Hoists Pak Flag to Spark Communal Tensions in Karnataka

BANGALORE – Six members of a right-wing Hindu group have been arrested in India’s southern Karnataka state for raising Pakistan’s national flag on a government building.

Police say those arrested belong to the Sri Rama Sena group.

The flag was raised in Sindgi, near Bijapur, on 1 January, leading to angry protests by Hindu organisations and the stoning of a Muslim prayer hall.

Police say Sri Rama Sena was trying to create “communal disharmony” in an area with a sizeable Muslim presence.

Sri Rama Sena is a fringe group that claimed responsibility for attacking women outside a pub in the coastal district of Mangalore in 2009, saying that allowing females in pubs was against Indian culture.

‘Dividing society’

Inspector general of police Charan Reddy told the BBC the situation in Sindgi was “now peaceful”.
“It seems they were out to create communal disharmony,” he said.

Hindu organisations had called for strikes in a number of towns around Bijapur to protest against the flag-raising.

But Reddy said police investigations had led them to members of the Sri Rama Sena, a group founded by Pramod Muthalik after it broke away from the Bajrang Dal, an affiliate of the long-standing Hindu nationalist organisation, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Muthalik is the leading suspect in the attack on the women in Mangalore.

Former chief minister and Janata Dal Secular party leader HD Kumaraswamy said of the flag-raising: “It is such a shame. I blame the RSS and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the incident. They want to divide society on religious lines.”

Bijapur is close to Hyderabad in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and is a historic town with a sizeable Muslim population.
Police arrested Sri Rama Sena members for the desecration of a mosque in Mysore a few years ago.

The carcass of a pig was thrown near the prayer hall, an act that triggered major riots between Hindus and Muslims.

Karnataka was also rocked by a series of attacks on churches by right-wing groups in 2008, immediately after the BJP came to power.

Muslim couple on train beaten in MP over beef suspicion

Police have arrested two members of the Gauraksha Samiti — identified as Hemant Rajput and Santosh — who claimed they acted on a tip-off about beef being transported by some passengers.

A MUSLIM couple was among passengers assaulted by at least seven members of the Gauraksha Samiti at Khirkiya railway station, in Harda district of Madhya Pradesh, when they objected to their luggage being searched on suspicion that they were carrying beef, police said.

Police said the right-wing activists claimed to have seized “beef” from a bag during the “raid” on the general compartment of the Kushinagar Express on Wednesday before laboratory tests proved it was buffalo meat.

Speaking to The Indian Express, 43-year-old Mohammed Hussain said he and his 38-year-old wife Naseema Bano were on way to their hometown in Harda after visiting an ailing relative in Hyderabad, when they were assaulted.

“They pushed my wife around when she objected to our luggage being searched. We live in India and know what is wrong and right, we eat only goat meat. Besides, the black bag from which the meat was seized did not belong to us. Finally, a constable came to our rescue and saved my wife,” said Hussain.

Describing the sequence of events — the couple had stopped over for a night at another relative’s house in Khandwa — Hussain said he was standing near the door of the “crowded compartment” while his wife was given a seat by other passengers, when the activists started their search.

“When some passengers objected to their luggage being turned upside down, the activists roughed them up before they started searching the bags kept near Naseema. When she objected, they pushed her towards the toilet. Then, I called a relative who lives near the station. He rushed over with other local residents and engaged in a scuffle with the samiti members,” said Hussain.

“The samiti members threw several bags on to the platform to inspect their contents before they found the black bag. The owners of that bag were not found,” he said.

When contacted, K Richhariya, Assistant Sub-Inspector (Khirkiya police station), said the contents of the bag were tested at a local laboratory which confirmed they were pieces of buffalo meat.

Harda MLA Ramkishore Dogne, meanwhile, alleged that the administration had lodged the complaint against local relatives of Hussain under pressure from the Bajrang Dal and VHP. “First, they were harassed, then a complaint lodged against their relatives,’’ the Congress legislator alleged.

KNOW THE FAKE 'VEER' SAVARKAR; HINDUTVA ICON

It is first time that a national English Weekly, THE WEEK (January 24, 2016), carries a series of articles on fake 'Veer' Savarkar. This issue of The Week must be had to know the traitorous and anti-national legacy of the founder of Hindutva. This series is based on the primary sources from the Hindutva archives.

http://www.theweek.in/theweek/cover/bun ... tions.html

Full story of betrayal of the freedom struggle by Savarkar is presented here. Savarkar led Hindu Mahasabha ran coalition governments in West Bengal, Sind and NWFP with the Muslim League in 1942 when Congress and all patriotic political organization were banned during the Quit India Movement. He organized recruitment camps for the British army when Netaji Subash C Bose was trying to liberate India militarily. He believed in two-nation theory long before Muslim League's Pakistan demand.

Read the Mercy Petitions submitted by the 'Veer' Savarkar to the British rulers.

http://www.theweek.in/theweek/cover/sav ... -jail.html

Shocking story of how RSS/BJP manufactured history of Cellular Jail. Savarkar who submitted 5 Mercy Petitions to the British masters is presented as the only hero of Cellular. Denigrating the real heroes of the Cellular Jail whose photographs are missing at the Museum at Cellular, the photographs of Hedgewar & Golwalkar are put up who had no existence there.

The Great Betrayal! How Hindutva Gang Led By Savarkar Betrayed
Netaji's Movement And Sided With The British Rulers

Hindutva brigade continues to pretend to have great admiration for Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose who attempted to organise a military campaign to force the British out of India. But for unknown reasons the world remains oblivious of the terrible betrayal of his cause by Hindu Mahasabha under the leadership of Savarkar who also happened to be a mentor of the RSS.

There is a mine of contemporary documents available to show that when Netaji during World War II was trying to secure foreign support for liberation of the country and trying to organise a military attack on the northeast of the country with the help of ‘Azad Hind Fauj’ (Indian National Army), it was Savarkar who offered full military co-operation to the British masters.

One needs to access the Hindu Mahasabha and RSS publications and documents of that period to know the shocking reality of the Hindutva gang turning into stooges of the British rulers against Netaji.

Savarkar called upon Hindus “to flood the [British] army, the navy and the aerial forces with millions of Hindu warriors with Hindu Sanghatanist hearts”

When the British government in the wake of the World War II decided to raise new battalions of its armed forces, it was Hindu Mahasabha under direct command of Savarkar which decided to enroll Hindus in a big way in this venture.

If on the one hand, Bose was working on the military strategies to take help of the German and Japanese forces to liberate India, on the other hand, Savarkar was busy in directly assisting the British colonial masters. This amounted to the betrayal of the cause espoused by Netaji. Savarkar and Hindu Mahasabha openly stood with the British government which later was able to kill and maim thousands of brave cadres of the Indian National Army (INA). While greatly eulogizing the British masters, Savarkar told his followers at Madura that due to the ever-advancing forces of Japan with a declared objective of freeing Asia from European influence, the British government needed Indians in large numbers in its armed forces which must be helped.

Savarkar spent the next few years in organizing recruitment camps for the British armed forces which were to kill large number of the INA personnel in different parts of North-East later. The Madura conference of Hindu Mahasabha concluded with the adoption of an ‘immediate programme’ which stressed “to secure entry for as many Hindus recruits as possible into army, navy and the air forces”. He also informed them that through the efforts of Hindu Mahasabha alone, one lakh Hindu’s were recruited in the British armed forces in one year.

Astonishingly, despite all these terrible anti-national ideas and practices of Savarkar, there are people who continue declaring him as a great patriot. How sturdily Savarkar and Hindu Mahasabha rode the British bandwagon can be known by simply peeping into a pre-Independence publication of the Hindu Mahasabha. This book published in 1941, had rather a longish title Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s Whirlwind Propaganda: Extracts from the President’s Diary of his Propagandist Tours Interviews from December 1937 to October 1941 and was edited by A. S. Bhide, a close confidant of Savarkar himself.

It was mandatory for every unit of the Hindu Mahasabha to keep it as a help book not only for political education of the cadres but also for articulating stands on different issues. The crucial fact should not be overlooked here that this ‘Hindutva Guide’ contained material written and spoken exclusively by Savarkar. The excerpts from the book show the real face of Hindutva which stood as a stooge of the British under the leadership of Savarkar. The Savarkarites complain that ‘pseudo-secularists’ after independence conspired to sideline Savarkar, who in the Hindutva brigade’s opinion was a great thinker and nationalist. If they are so sure about the greatness of Savarkar, it is high time that they should reprint this book so that the present generation too, comes to know about his greatness!

His call to the Hindus had no ambiguity: “Let the Hindus therefore come forward now and enter the army, the navy and the air-forces, the ordnance and other war-crafts factories in their thousands and millions.” Hindu Mahasabha under Savarkar’s leadership organised high-level Boards in different regions of the country to help the Hindus seeking recruitment in the British armed forces.

This clearly shows that the British Government had accommodated leaders of the Hindu Mahasabha on its official war committees.

World War II was also the period when different groups of revolutionaries and Subhash Chandra Bose were trying to secure help from countries like the USSR. But here we find Savarkar advising the British masters to beware of such dangers. We also find him offering total support to the British in this venture unabashedly. His main aim seemed to eliminate Muslims and not the British rule.

Bhide’s book also informs that a senior leader of the Hindu Mahasabha, Sir Jawala Prasad Shrivastav, on the instruction of Savarkar, met the Commander-in-Chief of the British armed forces in May, 1941.

The British Government was in regular touch with Savarkar so far as the organisation of its highest war bodies was concerned. It included individuals whose names were proposed by Savarkar.

It is important to note here that even Muslim League, sub-serving the interests of the British rulers, refused to align in these war efforts or join Defence Committees established by the government. Moreover, it is to be noted that the Congress had declared this War as imperialist war like other patriotic Muslim organizations namely Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind, Momin Conference, Ahrars, Ahle Hadis and Shia Political Conference. Their slogan ‘not a brother, not a penny’ for the War became a popular slogan.

The Modi government has recently put 100 hitherto secret Netaji files in in public domain. However, he and his government which are the product of Hindutva heritage and treat ‘Veer’ Savarkar as their hero will surely work over time to keep under wrap the above described anti-national bloodied record of the Hindutva Gang against the Indian freedom movement and its leaders like Netaji. It becomes the duty of all those Indians who respect and honour the heritage of our great liberation struggle to expose the criminal deeds of the Hindutva Gang.

Uttar Pradesh: Bajrang Dal activists ‘tonsure, parade man for conversion bid’

A man was allegedly tonsured, garlanded with shoes and paraded on a donkey by Bajrang Dal activists in Jalaun district of Uttar Pradesh Friday. According to police, the activists believed the man had lured four Hindus — two of them Dalits — into changing their religion.

Police have registered two FIRs in connection with the incident, and arrested five Bajrang Dal workers and the barber who tonsured the man’s head.

Circle Officer, city area, Jung Bahadur Yadav said the man, Awadhesh Kumar, an OBC, was picked up by the activists of Bajrang Dal Friday morning from his house in Redhar village, about 45 kilometres from Orai town. The men had come in a jeep fitted with a hooter and a police sign. Claiming to be policemen, the activists asked Awadhesh to accompany them for questioning. Awadhesh’s family did not raise any objection, the CO said.

Upon reaching Ambedkar crossing around 1.30 pm, Awadhesh was beaten up, police said. Later, a barber was called, who shaved his head, half his moustache and an eyebrow. He was then forced to sit on a donkey, garlanded with shoes and paraded for 150 metres. All this took place as hundreds of people looked on, police said, quoting from the complaint lodged by Awadhesh.

Police suspect the Bajrang Dal activists were contacted by one of the four men Awadhesh had allegedly taken to a Mirzapur church for a conversion bid. “They went to Mirzapur on December 18 and returned on December 23,” said the CO.

Additional Superintendent of Police, Jalaun, Shakeel Ahmed said that three of the men have denied any attempt by Awadhesh to convert them to Christianity. “They admitted to have gone to a church in Mirzapur but said no conversion took place,” said the ASP.

On Saturday, the police arrested five Bajrang Dal workers — Ashu Yadav, Prince Gupta, Karnendra Chauhan, Pradeep and Arun Tiwari — and the barber Ashish. They were produced in court, which sent them to judicial custody, said Station House Officer, Kotwali, Alok Saxena.

The ASP said the arrests were made after going through video clippings of the incident. “We have so far identified eight more Bajrang Dal men, including the outfit’s Jalaun district convenor Akhilesh Dhiya, who is currently absconding,” the ASP said.

The FIR registered against 100-150 unidentified Bajrang Dal men charges them with kidnapping and other offences. Police have also registered a case against Awadhesh for promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion and other charges.

BJP’s Jalaun district president Jagdish Tiwari confirmed the arrest of Bajrang Dal workers but claimed they were innocent. “Police are conducting raids to trace Akhilesh Dhiya so they can arrest him. The police are harassing his family members by taking his brother and mother into illegal custody,” Tiwari alleged.

Janata Dal (United) MP K C Tyagi, meanwhile, condemned the incident and claimed that the Centre has failed to control such outfits.

How The RSS Tried To Rewrite History On Godse And Gandhi - And We Bought It

Sixty-eight years on, the ease with which the RSS has gone about sanitising its past must put India to shame.

It has been almost 70 years since the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. The day is observed sombrely every year, but if we are to honour the father of the nation, we must vigorously contest the distortions of history that are going largely unchallenged in today's India. The killing of Gandhi on 30 January 1948 was not the act of a lone madman. At the age of 78, Gandhi was passionately advocating tolerance and tirelessly disputing the demands of those who wished to transform India into what Nehru called a "Hindu Pakistan". Nathuram Godse, the assassin whose bullets ended Gandhi's life, was the agent of an ideology seeking to establish its supremacy by eliminating its most formidable adversary.

WHY IS THE MEDIA NOT REPORTING KANHAIYA'S SPEECH?

The mainstream media--with just a few exceptions-- is either taking sides, or pitching those opposing the charges of sedition slapped on Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union President Kanhaiya Kumar with positions taken by the Delhi Police and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. This, when the answers are contained in a speech made by Kanhaiya just before his arrest and at the venue where pro-Pakistan slogans were allegedly raised.

A video recording of Kanhaiya’s address is available all over YouTube.

As is a second video that ,of course needs to be verified, a job that a cub reporter can do, portraying alleged ABVP activists from the University shouting pro-Pakistan slogans.

Both these videos requiring just basic investigation by a reporter can answer the main question: is the government justified in slapping sedition charges on Kanhaiya and the other students? A job that the media, in the search for truth, is expected to do and/or at least present the evidence provided by the ‘other side’ as against the statements put out by government and police.

Significantly the video capturing the entire speech by Kanhaiya has been ignored by the media. Why? After listening to it the answer is simple: Kanhaiya Kumar’s speech refutes the charge of sedition under which he has been arrested entirely. There is not a single word in his long and passionate address that remotely suggests sedition, and is instead an assertion of the Indian Constitution and a definition of patriotism and nationalism as arising from democracy, rights and equality.

It is strange that in the big debate that the media has unleashed on JNU and sedition, there has been little effort to get the facts right. The answer to these questions can be found from the campus, the students, the teachers and the video recording of the JNUSU Presidents address. And instead of just reporting the one side of the view against the other, the job of the media is to gather the facts of the case and present these to the people.

The points that the young and rather brilliant orator placed before the students can roughly be summarised into the following points:

1. These (RSS/ABVP are the chelas of those who had apologised to the British.

2. Their government in Haryana changed the name of the airport from Bhagat Singh to that of a Sanghi (RSS):

3. We do not want a certificate of patriotism from the RSS;

4. For us nationalism is to fight for the rights of the 80 per cent poor of India;

5. We have full faith in this country’s Constitution, if anyone raises a finger against India’s Constitution, be it of the Sanghis or anyone else, we will not tolerate that finger;

6. But the constitution that is being taught at Jhandewala or Nagpur, we have no faith in that constitution;

7. We have no faith in caste discrimination;

8. We want to uphold the rights we have been given under the Constitution of India;

9. The ABVP claims of standing for the students will be exposed if there is a debate on the basic issues of constitutional rights;

10. (Subramanian) Swamy says jihadis live in JNU, they believe in violence; we challenge the RSS and its supporters to come and debate on this.

11. They have problems when the poor ask for their rights, when the minorities, the women ask for empowerment;

12. They have difficulty in accepting when people talk of democracy and right, when along with Lal Salaam we add the Neela Salaam, when with Marx we take the name of Ambedkar;

13. Check my phone friends, my mother and sister are being abused. They talk of bharat maata but if my mother is not included in their concept I do not accept it. If the poor mazdoor woman, who works to get the Rs 3000 a month that finances my family, is being abused by them how can I or anyone accept this;

14. if you have the courage say inquilab Zindabad, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Ashfaqullah Khan, Ambedkar zindabad;

15. We stand with India, with the dream that Bhagat Singh and Ambedkar wrote; we stand for the dream that all get their rights to live, to food, to expression; Rohith sacrificed his life for this dream;

16. We challenge the Central government, we will not allow you to do what you did to Rohith to JNU;

17. We have to ensure justice for all , and that will come from Parliament, from the Constitution, from democracy;

18. JNUSU is against violence, against terrorism, against anti -national activity, the unidentified persons who have shouted Pakistan zindabad slogans, we condemn this completely,

19. Look at the slogans that the ABVP raises: communist kutte, afzal guru ke pillai, jihad ke bache. if the Constitution has given me the right to live, then can you call my father a dog, is that not against our rights;

20. Don’t hate these people, recognise their reality, i feel sorry for them, they raise slogans as they think that this will get them jobs. Their desh bhakti stops at a Pakistan cricket match.

There is not a word of sedition in this speech, but actually an assertion of democracy and the Indian Constitution.

An act of tyranny: ‘Modi govt threatened democracy; that is the most anti-national of all acts’

Nothing that JNU students did poses nearly as much of a threat to India as government's subversion of freedom

The arrest of Kanhaiya Kumar and the crackdown on political dissent at JNU suggest that we are living under a government that is both rabidly malign and politically incompetent. It is using nationalism to crush constitutional patriotism, legal tyranny to crush dissent, political power to settle petty scores, and administrative power to destroy institutions. The instigation of this crackdown was the alleged chanting of some anti-national slogans at JNU, and a meeting to mark the death anniversary of Afzal Guru. But the government’s disproportionate response smacks of tyranny of the highest order. It ordered the arrest of Kanhaiya Kumar, whose speech had nothing anti-national about it.

The fury with which the home minister and HRD minister intoned on defending “Mother India” and wiping out anti-national events, suggests several things. This was a political decision taken at the highest levels of government. It represents an open declaration by government that it will not tolerate any dissent. It clearly put on display this government’s imperiously presumptuous claim that it has the monopoly on nationalism. It was meant to be a display of brute force against a speech that was not in any way an immediate instigation to violence. The crackdown was an act designed to revel in ignorance of the law of sedition. Indeed, it was insidious in its remarkable ability to make ignorance the flaming torchbearer of nationalism. The government does not want to just crush dissent; it wants to crush thinking, as its repeated assaults on universities demonstrate.

They want to peddle a patriotism whose condition of possibility is the wiping out of all thought. It is important not to confuse several issues. Some of the students may have been deeply misguided in the beliefs they hold. But a university is the space to debate them: yes, even the hanging of Afzal Guru. But nothing they said amounts to a definition of illegality that should befit a liberal democracy.

Make no mistake: the purpose of such a use of state power is to put all defenders of liberty, all radical critics of the state, on the defensive. Its purpose is to make traitors of all of us.

But besides being malign, the government’s actions are politically stupid. In a narrow sense, the crackdown fulfils the government’s agenda: polarise and confuse the population by constantly debating nationalism; give full rein to the politics of resentment that the government harbours against institutions it has declared “Left.”

Nothing that the students did poses nearly as much threat to India, as the subversion of freedom and judgement this government represents. The honourable ministers should realise that if this is a debate about nationalism, it is they, rather than JNU, who should be in the dock. They have threatened democracy; that is the most anti-national of all acts.

From IS to RSS: Drawing parallels between Islamism and Hindutva

I have been reading Michel Houellebecq’s Submission, a novel set in the year 2022, when (in the novelist’s fancy) an Islamist party takes power in France. A character in the novel describes this party’s agenda as follows:

‘The Muslim Brotherhood is an unusual party, you know. Many of the usual political issues simply don’t matter to them. To start with, the economy is not their main concern. What they care about is birth rate and education. To them it’s simple — whichever segment of the population has the highest birth rate, and does the best job of transmitting its values, wins. If you control the children, you control the future. So the one area in which they absolutely insist on having their way is the education of children.’

Houllebecq is writing here about Muslim radicals in France. But much the same can be said about Hindutva radicals in India. Education and population have long been central to the programme of the most influential Hindu organisation in the country, the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh. The RSS has started thousands of schools, whose curricula emphasise the greatness of Hindu civilisation. When their political arm, once the Jana Sangh, now the Bharatiya Janata Party, enjoys a slice of state power, the RSS pitches hard for schools to adopt curricula promoting the glorification of Hindu gods and warriors.

The Jana Sangh was started in 1951. Sixteen years later, it formed part of a coalition government in Madhya Pradesh, the first time it had been in such a position. A senior civil servant later recalled that the ministry the Jana Sangh wanted above all was education, so that ‘they could build up a permanent following through the primary schools’. They eventually got home, where (as the civil servant noted) they took great care ‘to see that no key post in any department went to a Muslim’.

The pattern has continued; for the next 50 years, whenever it is in power, the RSS wants direct control of schools and education. Meanwhile, population is another major concern. The fear of the Muslim share of the national population growing too fast is shared widely among Hindutva activists, and even among senior BJP leaders. In an election campaign in Gujarat, Narendra Modi himself spoke darkly of Muslims practising a policy of ‘hum panch, humare pachees’ (we five, our 25).

Polygamy is a repugnant practice, antithetical to the rights of women. No democrat can justify it. Yet the RSS’s paranoia about it is, to say the least, illogical. If one Muslim man has four wives, surely three other Muslim men are then denied wives?

It is true that the Muslim birth rate is higher than the Hindu birth rate, but this is a function of the fact that on average Muslims are poorer than Hindus. The Muslim birth rate is steadily coming down. Yet the threat of a Muslim demographic invasion looms large in the Hindutva consciousness. The RSS regularly speaks about it, while BJP MPs urge Hindu women to each have five or six children to keep the competition going.

It was the historian Dharma Kumar who first identified the curious parallels between Hindutva and Islamism. This was in the early 1990s, at the time of the Ramjanmabhoomi movement, which led to attacks on minorities across the country. Dharma Kumar had then argued that the RSS wanted ‘to build an Islamic State — for Hindus’. In medieval Islamic polities, Jews and Christians were accorded second-class status. They were not allowed to hold state office, but could practise their professions peacefully so long as they recognised their political subordination. This was precisely how the RSS expected Christians and Muslims to behave in India.

More recently, another historian, Irfan Habib, has compared the RSS to the Islamic State. This is a considerable (if not wild) exaggeration. The IS wants to dominate the entire world, not just one country. The jihadis in Syria and Iraq are barbarians, capable of mass murder and of the savage obliteration of history. The IS seeks to commit genocide against Christians, Yazdis, and even Shias.

To me, Dharma Kumar’s nuanced comparison makes more sense. The RSS wishes to subjugate Muslims and Christians, not to exterminate them completely. That said, in the context of the open, plural, democratic society that the Indian Constitution envisaged, the RSS does come across as bigoted and majoritarian.

Like the RSS, the Islamists in Michel Houllebecq’s Submission work in a far more incremental way than the bloody fanatics now wrecking Iraq and Syria. They make shrewd alliances with other parties, while steadily increasing their numbers and their influence. In Houllebecq’s novel, the main theatre of contestation is an elite university, once controlled by republicans and atheists, but now increasingly under the influence of Islamic academics and activists.

The ‘submission’ of Houllebecq’s title has a double meaning; the submission of individual free will to the conformist (and oppressive) dictates of religious orthodoxy, and the submission of women to men. In the novel’s imagined future, French women do not, cannot, wear skirts any more. Muslim women are put behind the veil; they exist only to cook delicious food for their husbands and to fulfil their husbands’ sexual fantasies.

Once again, the parallels with radical Hindutva are striking. In India, Muslims and Christians (and Dalits and Adivasis too) are under pressure to change their dietary habits to conform to the upper-caste Hindu pattern. Hindu extremists attack women in towns who wear jeans, and demand that women in villages not be allowed to choose their life partners.

Patriarchy and bigotry; these have been the twin pillars of religious majoritarianism everywhere, and at all times. India is no exception.

JNU student arrest: Calculative move to bring RSS agenda in varsities, says Yogendra Yadav

SWARAJ LEHAR leader and noted psephologist Yogendra Yadav on Tuesday said the arrest of the JNU Students Union president Kanhaiya Kumar, on sedition charges, was part of the BJP-led NDA government’s “designs to implement the RSS agenda in Indian universities”.

While condemning the shouting of anti-India slogans inside the JNU campus, Yadav, who was in Ludhiana on Tuesday, said: “Those who shouted the slogans have not been arrested while an elected president has been charged with sedition. This is very unfortunate. This shows the real face of the Modi government, which is hell bent on implementing the RSS agenda in universities”.

Yadav, himself a former JNU student, added: “This student organisation has a glorious past and has made great contributions in the freedom struggle. The RSS meanwhile did not even shed even a drop of blood in the fight against colonialism”.

Cry Havoc and Let Slip the Dogs of War

Politicians, teachers unions and citizens may be angry and appalled at the government’s heavy handed action in arresting a student leader on the serious charge of sedition, but the BJP and its assorted arms have achieved a key objective: they have taken one step towards their goal of capturing India’s universities.

Taking control of the education system is a very critical part of the Sangh agenda. From day one of this government – the appointment of a highly willing and amenable HRD minister – they have put their game plan into action. From changing school curricula to appointing friendly vice-chancellors, everything is well thought out. But that can only go so far. To really get a grip on the universities, it is crucial to also put your own people in student unions. Since winning each and every election may not be possible, the intention is to destabilise all those unions where rivals – especially from the left and progressive groups – may be holding office. This is where the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the student wing of the BJP, comes in.

There are uncanny similarities between what happened in JNU and Hyderabad Central University. The ABVP was involved in both incidents, getting into a conflict with other students. In each case, a minister picked up the ABVP’s complaint and referred to “anti-national” activities. (In Hyderabad, the minister also helpfully added the charge of “casteist”, as Dalit students were involved.) Since the minister involved in the JNU case was no less a person than Rajnath Singh, the police acted swiftly and arrested a student leader who had no connection with any “anti-national activity” of any kind.

Apart from handing out certificates of nationalism, the BJP also brings into the equation the entire might of the state. In the case of Kanhaiya Kumar, once the home minister had declared – on what basis we haven’t been told, though there is much speculation that his top secret sources include fake tweets – anti-nationals would not be spared, the Delhi police swung into action and took him to jail. Imagine a scenario in which a private citizen one day just disappears because someone fingers him as a possible anti-national; already people have been arrested and worse, lynched on the suspicion of eating beef. Will vigilante groups now scour the streets looking for those whose patriotism seems somewhat weak?

Why do students matter so much to the Sangh? It has long been a mantra among right wingers that universities are a hotbed of leftist activities and breed subversives of various kinds. These elements have to be thrown out, and the ABVP has been assigned that task. It has now become the sword arm of the Sangh, instead of an organisation fighting for students’ issues.

Today it is universities; tomorrow it may be government offices, companies, housing societies, the film industry. The media looks a potential candidate, given the tendency of journalists to ask questions and write inconvenient articles that don’t fit in with the nationalist narrative. Already many have begun to trim their sails to the wind. And, as we have now seen, lawyers, who are supposed to stand up for the law, are ready to hit out at anybody who even covers the court case of “anti-nationals.”

Whether in Hyderabad or JNU, matters need not have escalated to this level. The country’s home minister is a busy man and has to worry about so many more important things; why does he bother about a minor student demonstration? The whole thing – even with the slogan shouting – could have passed without anyone taking notice; now it is a major national issue and international news. Prime Minister Modi was talking up the country as an investment destination in Mumbai; surely this was not the time to rake up a needless controversy.

Why then is the government being so reckless? Is the BJP so desperate that it is trying to make political capital at the expense of a small bunch of students? Or is there a bigger plan in motion?

http://thewire.in/2016/02/15/cry-havoc- ... war-21702/

CONCLUSION :-

The development plank has failed badly with the Government writing off bad debts of over one lakh crores. The beneficiaries are big corporates and the very rich..... The Modi Government has failed to stop the hundreds of farmers committing suicide, especially in Maharashtra, which has a BJP government. The sensex is below the level it was in May 2014. The rupee has devalued by about 10 %. Exports are down, even though the crude price has collapsed.

The Bihar elections showed that Modi wave is gone. The only alternative is hard Hindutva . Bullying will be intense with Dalits
and Muslims.

JNU row: This is the reality of Kanhaiya’s ‘Azadi’ video, some channels are running wrong information

A video of JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar is being circulated on social media, showing him raising ‘azadi’ slogans. Some news channels have also telecast the video, showing he was raising anti-India slogans. ABP News was also present there when it happened. We are telling you the reality.

ABP News camera caught him raising ‘azadi’ slogans. He was shouting slogans with a lot of energy and scores of students were following him. However, he never said anything bad about the country. He said in his slogans that he wanted freedom from poverty, freedom for communal blood-shed, freedom from social disparity. He never even once raised any anti-India slogan.

The video is of February 11. He was addressing students at the ad-hoc block of the university. This is the same day when he gave a stirring speech about how he loved the country and had complete faith in Baba Saheb Ambedkar and the constitution.
Some channels are showing distorted video. Here is the real video:

Bro qutub_mamajiwala,

Your hatred for co-Muslims is very well documented on this forum but are you also an RSS stooge ?? You quote articles from pro-BJP/RSS websites to prove your point. And BTW, do you know the history of ABVP ? Do you know that its a fringe group of RSS, an organisation which is spreading venom against Muslims since decades and its chamchas like VHP/Bajrang Dal/Hindu Mahasabha are the main perpetrators of 2002 Gujarat Mass Genocide wherein thousands of innocent Muslims were butchered and lakhs displaced from their homes and who still live in dismal conditions in relief camps till today ?

We don't need the likes of Modis, Togadias, Thackereys and Sadhvi Prachis to unleash terror on Muslims as we already have people like you who are making their job much easier.

Your hatred for Wahabis and ISIS is justifiable but singing Saffron tunes is highly objectionable !!

BJP uses its GOONS in the legal fraternity to achieve their goal !

How lawyer Vikram Singh Chauhan who led both assaults at Patiala court sought support on Facebook to ‘teach traitors a lesson’

Vikram Singh Chauhan, the lawyer who led the attack on journalists and students Monday and was in the group that assaulted JNU students’ union president Kanhaiya Kumar at the Patiala House Courts Wednesday, used Facebook to mobilise support for the attacks.

Chauhan’s Facebook timeline shows nine posts between February 11 and 16 in which he is urging lawyers to reach the court well in time to “demonstrate patriotism” and “teach the traitors a lesson”. While a couple of these posts talk of taking the legal course, they also call for direct action or “face-to-face fight”.

He posted several photographs to show his links to the BJP — he is seen with several party leaders, from Rajnath Singh to J P Nadda to Kailash Vijayvargiya — and calls himself a “worker of BJP”. In other photographs, he is at an ABVP event in Delhi University last September on the eve of elections to the students’ union.

How do you come to the conclusion that I vote for 'Muslim majority India' ?? I only want that Muslims should not be treated as second class citizens and the atrocities on them should be stopped (Dadri lynching, Muzzafarnagar riots, Gujarat 2002 riots, arrests of Muslim youth for terrorist activities merely on suspicions etc etc ).

Have you tried to buy a house in Gujarat after revealing your Muslim identity ?

From Hyderabad to Jawaharlal Nehru University, from the death of Rohith Vemula to the arrest of Kanhaiya Kumar, a clear political agenda by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party can be discerned. At first flush, this is a party whose top leaders — and they include members of the Union Cabinet — are all too willing to pick fights with student leaders and give establishment cover to the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the Sangh’s student wing. But to see events that have unfolded over the past week only as the government’s battle for ideological control for India’s universities, as real and as condemnable as the effort is, would be to miss the gravity of the moment. In the national capital this week, the Home Minister gave currency to parody accounts of Pakistani terrorists to build a case against JNU students and yet remained visibly unmoved by the obstinate refusal of the city’s police force, which comes under his charge, to arrest “nationalist” lawyers and a party MLA who beat up students on and around court premises. BJP spokespersons affected condemnation of the violence, but breathed outrage about the allegedly seditious sentiments voiced at a meeting on the JNU campus to mark the death anniversary of Afzal Guru, convicted in the 2001 Parliament attack case and hanged in 2013. Such false equivalence has never been seen since Independence, between a Central government virtually refusing to honour the state’s essential compact with its citizenry to enforce the law and the right of Indians to freely express their sentiments, that too in the especially free zone that university campuses are meant to be. And its utterance should frame an anxiety the Prime Minister must respond to, that “nationalism” is being adopted as a political and executive touchstone by which Indians are sought to be divided between those with the ruling dispensation and those not.

Besides taking the fight to the country’s campus that is most identified with Left politics, the JNU development was obviously a chance for the BJP to recover from the excesses of Hyderabad. With it, the party has reframed the ABVP’s adoption of “nationalist” outrage from a Sangh versus Dalit binary to one in which the identities of “anti-nationalists” are insinuated, and not overtly specified. It is, thus, a curious overlay to agitations over the JNU incidents that all Central universities are now required to fly the national flag. It is a dangerous phase in this country’s history when the government at the Centre is seen to be actively assisting in a right-wing effort to shape the discourse on nationalism. This is why the use of Section 124-A of the Indian Penal Code on sedition acquires greater menace than in instances in the past, when it has mostly been used by thin-skinned politicians to fend off critiques. Its application against JNU students and the unchecked violence against students and activists at Delhi’s Patiala House courts have sent out a message that the rule of law could be enforced selectively. If Prime Minister Narendra Modi differs from this dark reading of events, he needs to speak up.
