[Scholarly Research] Finding the Truth of Bohri

The one and only free public forum for Bohras. The focus of this forum is the reform movement, the Dawoodi Bohra faith and, of course, the corrupt priesthood. But the discussion is in no way restricted to the Bohras alone.

[Scholarly Research] Finding the Truth of Bohri

#1

Unread post by HiddenName » Thu Sep 05, 2013 11:47 am

I am very serious about conducting a scholarly research going back in history on how Dawoodi Bohra were born.

>>>> Ask For Help <<<<
I would really like reference names of books, and Scholars who I can contact and get to the bottom of this.

>>>> My offer <<<<
I will share my findings in this forum

>>>> My Ethics <<<<
+ I will question the premise of everything and look for references in original books to prove or disprove a point.
+ I want to get to a point that when I say something, its backed up by some reference from an ancient book.

Please help in giving me reference of some books and names of scholars who I can meet in person and learn from

What you plan to do is re-invent the wheel. Many scholars before you have already done that. There are many history books on Dawoodi Bohra religion that were written but now are banned by kothar as they don't promote the agenda of the last two dais. For example there was a book called Mausam e Bahar(3 volumes) which said that Syedna Abd e Ali Saifuddin prohibited from doing too much matam and that doesn't fit in with the current trend so the book is banned (not officially but shunned and not mentioned and it is discredited). there are many historians who wrote books detailing what you plan to do but one or two things in it were against the current agenda so they are discarded and only what is written by the jamea people in the time of the 52nd Dai is the only ones recommended, and these books are not in one volume but sectioned off by regions, i.e Ahmedabad na Doat, history of different Awliyas, Ujjain na doat, Surat na Doat, Yemen na Doat etc. etc.
To get the real authentic info you have to go into the lion's den, but the lion will have his own restrictions imposed on you as to what can be mentioned and what needs to be kept hidden, then what you write is not authentic but manufactured because of the lion himself. If you don't follow the lion's rules , your book will be discredit like all other old history books and will become meaningless.

I don't plan to write a book. I just want to know the truth, and share my findings (Open to critique). Can I get a copy of these books outside of Jamaat?

From your initial posting I got the mistaken notion that you plan to write a book due to your use of very high sounding words like Scholarly research, Authentic references, meeting Scholars etc.etc. Sorry my bad.
If you just want to read and bring yourself up to date then go to Ahmedabad and many book stores exist that sell books in Urdu, Lisan e Dawat and in English languages:
Urdu book: Aqad ul Jawahir fi Ahwalil bawahir by a sunni muslim all the info provided by kothar
Lisan e Dawat book: Mausam e Bahar (3 vols.) & several other books by Shk Haider Ali Diwanji,
English book : Mullahs on the main frame by Jonas Blank

Kaka Ji,

Mausam a Bahar was inked by Janab Sheikh Mohammed Ali ibn Al Muqqaddas Mulla Jiva Bhai.

What are the titles of the book written by Shk Haider Ali Diwanji and from where can one get them?

Bro Badrijanab:

Thank you for refreshing my memory of the name of the author of Mausam e Bahar, I read the book many years ago borrowing from a friend. Also I saw at least 5 books of Shk. Haider Ali Diwanji in a friends house many years ago, I don't remember the names of all the books except one sticks in my brain and that is "Hadiqat ut Tarikh"

Sorry bro for not being of much help to you.
