Women's status in Muffadal Saifuddin raj

The one and only free public forum for Bohras. The focus of this forum is the reform movement, the Dawoodi Bohra faith and, of course, the corrupt priesthood. But the discussion is in no way restricted to the Bohras alone.

i am starting again this topic again because without much thought admin has merged it to muffadal saiffudin and related topic .
Admin is adamant for separate thread but admin should realise that this thread has only emphasis only on woman status and related topic like education .
today when i searched on google i found following links that has

Of all the evils for which man has made himself responsible, none is so degrading, so shocking or so brutal as his abuse of the better half of humanity; the female sex.”
― Mahatma Gandhi

“No nation can rise to the height of glory unless your women are side by side with you. We are victims of evil customs. It is a crime against humanity that our women are shut up within the four walls of the houses as prisoners. There is no sanction anywhere for the deplorable condition in which our women have to live.”

Rectors at Oral Examination
By Muslim Mirror News Desk,
MUMBAI: The 76th Imteehan Sanawee (annual examinations) of the Dawoodi Bohra community’s 200 year old educational institute, Aljamea-tus-Saifyah are currently taking place over a period of ten days at the Saifee Masjid in Bhendi Bazar.
In line with community tradition, the examinations are being personally conducted by the head of the Dawoodi Bohra community, His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin. On Sunday, 18th May, His Holiness commenced the annual examinations with an address to members of the community. Thousands of his followers attended this sermon which was also broadcasted live to all community centers world over.
In this address he reaffirmed the need for community members to seek a comprehensive education. He mentioned that the number and spectrum of professionals within the community ranks are a source of pride and prayed for this number to increase. In his address, Syedna also stressed “that regardless of the educational qualifications one attains, service to humanity should remain the utmost priority”. He also laid strong emphasis on women empowerment through education said an official from Syedna’s office.
Apart from written examinations, the senior students also appear for oral examinations. These examinations take place in the presence of His Holiness, as well as in front of more than 2000 community members that include community leaders, professionals and businesspersons.
Students are questioned on a variety of topics that range from Islamic jurisprudence, philosophy and history to political science, economics and literature and are asked to relate their learning to contemporary issues and real world application said Mehlam Hakimuddin, a nephew of Syedna and one of the chief coordinator of the examinations.
The proceedings are primarily conducted in Arabic, English and Lisan-e-Dawat – the community language.
From amongst a student strength of 1750, spread over four campuses in Surat, Karachi, Mumbai and Nairobi, 1250 students are appearing for their examinations here in Mumbai.
“This is the first examination conducted by Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin as the community’s spiritual leader” informed Khuzaima Shajapurwala, Dean of Aljamea-tus-Saifiah.

Muffadal Saab is digging his grave deep into hypocrisy and lying. These people fear SKQ saheb, they do not declare it but SKQ sahib holds some secret which they afraid can be spilled out by him in any given time.

Rida is not new, and it is worn by our elders from generations and I firmly support this dress, my wife is western educated and a french regional but she loves to wear rida with pride, only difference between her wearing rida is she believes this is dress of FATEMA(s) and not just because muffy or some other moron is prescribing it, I do keep beard and wear topi but my aqeeda is to fulfill sunnah of muhammed(s) and nothing else.

also this is topic on malumaat so sharing it...

Munira ben Hussamudin Amiji of Mombasa Kenya won Award in Mumbai Jewelry Designing, she was also honored for best clothes worn (Rida), Religion combined with Modernity and simplicity is always recognized.

I mean to say, momeen should have aqeedah of pleasing rasullullah(s) and his family and not because of any thing else.

Although the below mentioned article has nothing to do with Muffy's approach towards women but nevertheless it does mention certain rights that the women in India can exercise when they are in a precarious condition :-

As a woman, you are entitled to some rights by law that protect you when you have been violated. Here are some that you should be aware of.

RIGHT TO PRIVACY WHILE RECORDING STATEMENT
Under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code, a woman who has been raped can record her statement before the district magistrate when the case is under trial, and no one else needs to be present. Alternatively, she can record the statement with only one police officer and woman constable in a convenient place that is not crowded and does not provide any possibility of the statement being overheard by a fourth person. The police have to, by law, protect the woman’s right to privacy. It’s important for the person to feel comfortable and not be under any kind of stress while narrating the incident.

TIME DOESN’T MATTER
The police cannot refuse to register an FIR even if a considerable period of time has elapsed since the incident of rape or
molestation took place. If the police tells you that they can’t lodge your FIR since you didn’t report it earlier, do not concede. “Rape is a horrifying incident for any woman, so it’s natural for her to go into shock and not want to report it immediately. She may also fear for her safety and the reputation and dignity of her family. For this reason, the Supreme Court has ruled that the police must register an FIR even if there has been a gap between the report and the occurrence of the incident,” says Tariq Abeed, advocate, Supreme Court.

POLICE CAN’T SAY NO
A rape victim can register her police complaint from any police station under the Zero FIR ruling by Supreme Court. “Sometimes, the police station under which the incident occurs refuses to register the victim’s complaint in order to keep clear of responsibility, and tries sending the victim to another police station. In such cases, she has the right to lodge an FIR at any police station in the city under the Zero FIR ruling. The senior officer will then direct the SHO of the police station concerned to lodge the FIR,” says Abeed. This is a Supreme Court ruling that not many women are aware of, so don’t let the SHO of a police station send you away saying it “doesn’t come under his area”.

NO ARRESTS AFTER SUNSET
According to a Supreme Court ruling, a woman cannot be arrested after sunset and before sunrise. There are many cases of women being harassed by the police in the wee hours, but all this can be avoided if you exercise the right of being present in the police station only during daytime. “Even if there is a woman constable accompanying the officers, the police can’t arrest a woman at night. In case the woman has committed a serious crime, the police has to get it in writing from the magistrate explaining why the arrest is necessary during the night,” says Bhaumik.

YOU CAN’T BE CALLED TO THE POLICE STATION
Women cannot be called to the police station for interrogation under Section 160 of the Criminal Procedure Code. This law
provides Indian women the right of not being physically present at the police station for interrogation. “The police can interrogate a woman at her residence in the presence of a woman constable and family members or friends,” says Abeed. So the next time you’re called to the police station for queries or interrogation when you have faced any kind of harassment, quote this guideline of the Supreme Court to exercise your right and remind the cops about it.

THE DOCTOR CAN’T DECIDE
Acase of rape can’t be dismissed even if the doctor says rape had not taken place. A victim of rape needs to be medically examined as per Section 164 A of the Criminal Procedure Code, and only the report can act as proof. “A woman has the right to have a copy of the medical report from the doctor. Rape is a crime, not a medical condition. It is a legal term and not a diagnosis to be made by the medical officer treating the victim. The only statement that can be made by the medical officer is that there is evidence of recent sexual activity. Whether the rape has occurred or not is a legal conclusion and the doctor can’t decide on this,” explains Bhaumik.

PROTECT YOUR IDENTITY
Under no circumstances can the identity of a rape victim be revealed. Neither the police nor media can make known the
name of the victim in public. Section 228-A of the Indian Penal Code makes the disclosure of a victim’s identity a punishable offense.
Printing or publishing the name or any matter which may make known the identity of a woman against whom an offense has been committed is punishable. This is done to prevent social victimisation or ostracism of the victim of a sexual offense. Even while a judgment is in progress at the high court or a lower court, the name of the victim is not indicated, she is only described as ‘victim’ in the judgment.

EMPLOYERS MUST PROTECT
It is the duty of every employer to create a Sexual Harassment Complaints Committee within the organisation for redressal of such complaints. According to a guideline issued by the Supreme Court, it is mandatory for all firms, public and private, to set up these committees to resolve matters of sexual harassment. It is also necessary that the committee be headed by a woman and include 50 per cent women as members. Also, one of the members should be from a women’s welfare group.

Clergy does not want that either men or women take higher education. If women are highly educated they cannot be controlled by long bearded bohra men. Bohra men cannot tolerate women being educated and have liberal viewpoints about life.

Just wonder the reason SMS does not want women to progress may have something to do with his Daughter In Laws from SKQ side leaving with their children
May be it is a grudge against his Daughter In Laws who are highly educated and took stand against his tyranny which is why he wants women to stay home and make ROTI and RIDAs and become subjugated to their husbands. May be he feels guilty that his own SONS did not have control over their wives.

I support your views. Those daughters-in-law looks like the reason behind.

SBM Bhai, your conclusion is not quite accurate, but your intuition is closer to the truth. Let me explain.
From what I have observed, SMS view of woman as traditional slave of man is not new. Furthermore, what SMS says and does is a reflection not of himself alone, but of the influence coming from YN family. Also, SM was doing all this bayan of women long before wafaat of SMB, long before SKQ's daughters ran away from Saifee mahal.
His own wife is actually the devil and witch behind all this tamasha that the Bohra community is subject to. She herself is hardly the wife and woman that SMS preaches about. She is high and mighty, with her many woman servants and slaves surrounding her. SMS himself is totally confused and operating on robotic mode with push of button from his wife. So when he goes off script, and displays all this rage and anger against women, guess who HE is really outraged with? Guess who HE really wishes he had more control over? He has no room to really man-up, while he sits under the free-willy Johara's right thumb, that pushes his buttons at her whim and fancy.

I wonder why thaali system was started, to make woman work and earn so that they give more money to them. In one of the bayans MS said that Bibi Fatimah A.S asked Mola Ali(A.S) that which kind of a woman is the best. Hazrat Ali. (A.S) said ' jo ghar ki chokhat sambhale'
This is hypocritical.

Just a little traditions on Women:

Imam Ali (a.s.) quotes the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.) as saying:
"Allah curses those men who make themselves resemble women or those women who make themselves resemble men."

Imam Husayn (a.s.) quotes the Prophet of Islam as saying:
"Any woman who perfumes herself and leaves her home is cursed by the angels and deprived of the blessings of the Almighty Allah until she returns home."

Imam Husayn (a.s.) quotes the Messenger of Allah as saying:
"An evil look is one of the poisonous arrows of Iblis (Satan) and how an evil look causes long-suffering regrets."
Imam al-Sadiq (a.s.) was asked whether it is lawful for a man to look at the face of a woman whom he wants to marry and also to look at her from behind. He said:
"Yes, there is no objection for a man to look at a woman whom he wants to marry including her face and to look at her from behind."

Imam Husayn (a.s.) says:
"The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.) used to salute women and they used to reply his salutation. While the Commander of the Faithful, Imam Ali (a.s.), also used to salute women, but he disliked to salute the young among the women and said, 'I feared that her voice would admire me and thus affect me so I would commit sin more than get reward."

The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.), addressing the Muslims on the occasion of the Farewell Pilgrimage, warned them against the values which he feared would be neglected after him, and referred to woman as one of the important issues about whom he said:
"Observe your duty to Allah in respect to the women, and treat them well."

"...there fore the righteous women are devoutly obedient, and guard in (the husband's) absence what God would have them guard." (Holy Qur’an, 4:34).

The Holy Qur'an speaks of the equality of the two sexes in various verses. In one place it says:
"...and women have rights similar to those against them in a just manner,..." (Holy Qur’an, 2:228).

"And whoever does righteous deeds, whether male or female, and he/she is a believer - they will enter the Garden, and not the least injustice will be done to them." (Holy Qur’an, 4:124).

"...I will not suffer the work of any worker among you to be lost whether male or female, the one of you being from the other..."(Holy Qur’an, 3:195)

Here is my message for Kotahri Masters and hopefully this can reach to SMS about Status of Women in Islam ( I may have already posted somewhere)
-Quran is only holy scripture of any religion which has an entire section about Women (An Nisa)
-The first person to accept Islam at the hands of Prophet Mohammed was a woman-- his wife Khadijah
- The most powerful, successful and wealthy woman in Arabia who helped with the spread of Islam was a woman--- Khadijah
-The most powerful adviser to an Imam during his caliphate was Fatimah, wife of Imam Ali She acted like his Chief of Staff and National Adviser
-The person who after the massacre of Ahle Bayt who stood up to the mighty Yazid and exposed his and his army's atrocities was woman--Zainab
-The only person who saved the Dawat from extinction was a woman--Hurrut Al Maleka
-The only person whom the past and current Dai praise and almost worship is a woman--Bu Saheba
-The only person whose very highly recognized book about Fatimid Literature which received world wide recognition is a woman_ Bazat Tahera- daughter of SKQ
-The only Bohra to receive her Ph D on Islamic Literature from Harvard is a woman--Bazat Tahera
No woman has been recognized for making ROTI-RIDA or being a subservient person except may be in new doctrine of SMS..

Hope this message reaches to SMS and his coterie and hopefully brings some self soul searching even though he may be bitter about his grand mother ( mother of SMB) and his own wife and now daughter in laws.

I dont understand why this all NOW... Where did the first days of newly proclaimed Dai go man. Where he said that Women should be in the houses and shouldnt work. Make Roti. No Jobs.. and now encouraging women education and work. I think SMS is afraid of the current situations.. Well he is playing his role well here... True that.

What is "Zaifi" according to MS because Mola Ali (a.s.) died at the age of 63 years. If 63 years is "Zaif" then what is 74 years (Muffy's age)............ Maha Zaif ??

Now steps behind the supply chain, women working in the field to grow wheat, getting water from well, making salt from sea water and yes I left out rida ladies cutting wood and as carpenter making valen patlo

I will be criticized for leaving out oil pressing, Tava making and charcoal.

Am I missing out any thing? Let Mola figure out.

I will not be one of them In Sha Allah ! I really pray women in the community open their eyes and see where these kohtars are leading their families.Men should also realize the importance of a woman in building up society. If she is well educated and pious that would be beneficial for the future generations.
In Dubai markaz they have started something new where they ask every lady what is your specialization ? Includes education as well as skills. I wonder what is the reason behind that now .
There is a MSB school in Dubai with the name Al Ameen Pvt. School. There was some leadership program v beneficial for the kids .. these goons did not take the program as they thought parents will not pay.The program was for 50 - 75 students. It was for 300 dihrams only. The jammat that takes large amount of money and now also wajebat from kids can't arrange a program for the kids?

day agoThe spiritual head of the Dawoodi Bohra Muslim community has allegedly advised women to study home science, learn stitching and cooking. The Dawoodi Bohra Muslim community, which has already been hurt by a bitter succession battle that its leaders are fighting in the Bombay high court, now faces dissent from within. Some members of the community claim that for the past few months, Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, the official spiritual leader of the Bohras, has been making regressive statements about women in his sermons. They claim that the leader has discouraged women from higher education and working in call centres on multiple occasions, encouraging them to work at jobs that involve stitching and cooking. The Dawoodi Bohras are a one-million strong sect of Shia Muslims, originally from Gujarat. Around 500,000 live in India, while the rest are spread out across the world. Ever since Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin, the 52nd ‘dai’ or spiritual leader of the community, died in January at the age of 103, there has been a dispute over the succession to the post of the 53rd ‘dai’.Son vs BrotherWhile Saifuddin, the second son of Burhanuddin, is said to have been publicly named as the next leader by his father in 2011, his claim has been disputed by the late Syedna’s half-brother, Khuzaima Qutbuddin, who had been Burhanuddin’s second-in-command since 1965.The majority of the community has formally pledged its allegiance to the son, Saifuddin. But in the past few months, with Qutbuddin taking the dispute to the Bombay high court, support for him has been silently gathering steam.Besides challenging Saifuddin’s claim to the post of the ‘dai’, Qutbuddin and his supporters have also been critical of the hefty taxes community members are expected to pay and of Saifuddin’s views on women.Increasingly, however, members of the mainstream community have also been questioning their leader’s statements about women. Statements about Women“I am a supporter of Syedna Saifuddin and I attend as many of his sermons as I can, but I do not agree with some of his views on women and their education,” said a Mumbai-based Bohra woman in her 60s. “He has said, on multiple occasions, that girls should not be sent to universities or work outside, and that they should be taught how to stitch and make rotis. But I believe education is for all. Why should women only work at home?”According to another Bohra businessman who did not wish to be named, Saifuddin has stated in a sermon that women attract male attention if they do not wear their ridas (the Bohra hijab) properly, and that going to college or working in call centres could lead to “committing sins”. He said the Syedna has advised women to study home science instead. The spokesperson for the Saifuddin-led community declined to comment on the issue, but stated that the leader’s words are often quoted out of context.Fear of OstracismMost of the criticism of the current Syedna’s views are whispered amongst like-minded community members, but few are willing to talk about it openly because of the fear of being ostracised. The Bohras are a small, close-knit community that uses a biometric identification number – called the e-jamaat card – to organise its members. Social boycott can have serious implications for dissenters. In fact, several Bohras who have either openly or covertly switched allegiance to Qutbuddin have found their e-jamaat cards blocked in past weeks.“My entire family’s cards have been blocked. Being boycotted means that we cannot enter any mosque or graveyard,” said a 23-year-old Bohra college student from Mumbai who is now a supporter of Qutbuddin. “Some of our friends and relatives have also stopped talking to us.”On July 4, when three of Qutbuddin’s sons went to visit the grave of the late Syedna Burhanuddin at a prominent mausoleum in Mumbai’s Bhendi Bazar area, they were allegedly assaulted by guards from the community. “The assault continued even after the sons called the police,” said Moiz Bharmal, a member of Qutbuddin’s immediate circle of supporters. “We had filed a complaint with the police, but have decided not to pursue the case.”Meanwhile, the legal battle over succession is being heard by Justice Gautam Patedl in the high court and a hearing has been scheduled for September 9.h

If women will not study , they will never be able to think or come out of this bohra customs. Too clever of MS to spread such concept of roti making. I wonder what will happen of the future generations and from where they will get right religious education. :(

Some one show him the virtues and position of WOMEN in ISLAM please for God sake.. Where did the equality go, the knowledge, you know this is the reason the so called farman of not reading the Quran's translation comes. First stop, dont let anyone know whats written in Quran or else they will become a hurdle in our income.. I should say they have used a good emotional strategy to manipulate 1500k bohras...

Received on whatsapp.
Most Respected and Dearest Moula Mufaddal Saiduddin (TUS):

Like thousands of Dawoodi Bogra Women I too am your die hard fan. Yearning to make eye contact with you. Yearning for that one glance from you that will put me into raptures of divinity. I too have waited in a queue for hours to touch one of your hands or feet to be able announce to the world your kadambosi. I too have sat patiently and listened, inspite of the pain in my knees, to the pearls of wisdom in your Bayaans and Vaaz.

But we hardly know you Moula. You have suddenly burst into our lives like a blinding beam of light. Born with a golden spoon in your mouth, you have inherited the vast administration and financial empire which have been put together by your father Dr. SMB over fifty years of hard work. Along with this you have also inherited the trust and blind faith that Bohras have been taught to have on their Dai. We have been fortunate to have listened to the sermons of Dr. SMB who had been soft spoken and a father figure. Your Sermons are so different. Your brash and loud admonishing Bayaans are such a change from what we are used to. They are so unnerving sometimes.

Most women don't know but I know what happened in Udaipur. How they wanted a democratic way of handling their Jamaat and an account of the money that they were paying you. And how in retribution their women were beaten and their hair pulled - all this in the presence of Dr. SMB. Since that incident, they just could not bring themselves to owe allegiance to Dawat. How could they? How could any self respecting community? No one will tolerate this behaviour towards their women. The women themselves revolted. And they simply could not be persuaded to come back. On top of this they were branded 'Dawat na Dushman'. If only people knew what actually happened.

Due to a lack of communication the whole incident was hushed up and life continued as usual. But, truth as you know, has the nasty habit of leaking out anyway. But now, Moula, it is not possible to cover up anything. Every smile, every word, every laanat, every move you make is well documented and publicised. And news spreads like wildfire. You just cannot afford another Udaipur specially with the Dawedar breathing down your neck.

All we women want is freedom from this roti, kapda, makaan agenda rolled out by you. we need education and an outlet from the enclosure that our society has become. It's a vast world outside and we need to be able feel trusted enough to go out there and make a mark in society.

This is my humble request.

Amte Syedna.

Ps: And Moula please use your influence to ease this knee pain.
