Dawoodi Bohras in the media - 2015

The one and only free public forum for Bohras. The focus of this forum is the reform movement, the Dawoodi Bohra faith and, of course, the corrupt priesthood. But the discussion is in no way restricted to the Bohras alone.

The boy studies at St. Joseph convent school in ratlam and every student in the school was instructed to contribute atleast Rs.100/- but the actual collection was much above expectations.
Are you serious? Who instructed students to contribute? I guess St. Joseph convent being a Christian school, they were probably generous. What would have happened if the student was in Saify school, or other Muslim school? I do not even want to think.

Looks like true_bohra and kharas_mithas have no response on my comment!
dawedaar wrote:The fact that the family had to appeal to state ministry instead of their beloved Maula shows the reality and on whom they have more trust. It is clear they appealed to state because they have more hopes on state than Maula! It is surprising that if everything goes well, they will say Maula ni dua che and if something goes wrong, then they will blame government etc. Cleary speaks volumes! If Maula really cared for this mumineen family and if he is really a ghaib na jaankaar, then there should have been no need for the family to appeal to anyone. The jamaat or Kothar should have taken care of everything...

AM Jeevanjee: The Man Who Built Nairobi

#126

Unread post by fayyaaz » Sat Jun 06, 2015 11:28 am

Reprised recently in the media: Alibhai Mulla Jeevanjee.

Although the only thing that still bears his name in Nairobi today is a public park, Alibhai Mulla Jeevanjee’s (AMJ) story is closely interwoven with the story of Nairobi’s beginnings. Jeevanjee was a businessman, politician, and philanthropist all packed into one stocky, curious, and illustrious immigrant who made Kenya his home.

AMJ was born in 1856 to a rather conservative Islamic sect known as the Bohra sect in Karachi, Pakistan.

Before the Second War in Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya, the Jeevanjee family had donated a piece of real estate which was developed into a very well designed garden with assortments of indigenous trees and flowers, fountains and benches. As the location of the garden was in a very prominent location, near the Nairobi University campus and also in the heart of downtown many politicians had proposed to change its use, demolish it to be replaced with multi-storeyed office towers. A few years ago they were successful in convincing the City Council of Nairobi to change its use.

Things had not progressed very far when Dr. Zarina Patel (daughter of Dr. Najmudin, related to the Jeevanjees)) of Mombasa took it upon herself to challenge the Council in its decision with supportive documents to prove the case that any change and usage was contra to the documented wishes of the Jeevanjee family. She won the case and the garden was saved.

Likewise the Bohra Sports Club and grounds was also a generous gift from the Jeevanjee family. After the abrogation of the constitution of East African Bohra Central Council (1963-66) attempts were made by the Hebatulla family and their henchmen to seize the club. There too the progressives stood fast and took control and have retained control till today.

I welcome posters to add similar benevolence of the Jeevanjee family in this thread.

This man Bhol is a court jester of MS. He can be seen in all his waez singing "Dushman par pad jaaye to talwaar he aakhen" with a lot of hand jestering and melodrama, He is the comic relief.

Soon, a law against social boycott by caste panchayats in Maharashtra
We are working on the bill," said a senior official, adding that they were planning to table the legislation in the monsoon session of the state legislature. The draft of the 'Prevention of Social Boycott and Protection from Jaat (caste) Panchayat Bill' will also be open for public consultation.
Sudhir Shetty dna
In a path-breaking step in the battle against obscurantism, the state government is working on a law to prevent social discrimination or boycott by extra-judicial bodies such as caste panchayats or 'gavaki'. Besides cracking down on the parallel justice system in Maharashtra, which frowns at inter-caste marriages, change in social practices or even people's choice of clothes, the proposed legislation will also introduce a concept of retributive justice wherein the accused will have to participate incommunity services such as cleaning roads or donating blood.

"We are working on the bill," said a senior official, adding that they were planning to table the legislation in the monsoon session of the state legislature. The draft of the 'Prevention of Social Boycott and Protection from Jaat (caste) Panchayat Bill' will also be open for public consultation.

According to the bill, any person who individually or in an organised criminal manner commits acts like denying any member/members of his community access to places of worship and compelling him or her to wear or not to wear a specific type of clothing or footwear, shall be deemed to have imposed social boycott or social discrimination. Acts like compelling anyone to speak or not to speak a particular language, obstructing access to any place used for charitable, religious, educational, medical or public purposes, or from getting benefit under charitable or wakf bodies, denying anyone right to marriage, funeral or rituals, or social and business relations with other members, may also be covered.

The official said though the quantum of punishment is yet to be finalised, imprisonment and fine may be imposed. The fine amount is likely to be given to victims as assistance. The Act also proposes the concept of retributive justice where social punishments like directing the accused to sweep the area, clean public latrines, serve orphanages, donate blood or arrange social functions, will be imposed.

"In Konkan and other regions, a parallel justice system based on caste has existed for thousands of years. Superstitions are linked to this... caste is an accident of birth, there is no logic to it," noted Avinash Patil of the Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmulan Samiti, adding that there is no scope of appeal against these kangaroo courts. He added that the caste panchayats operated among socially-backward sections such as the nomadic, de-notified tribesand even among upper castes, albeit at a subtle level.

Patil said after an episode on north India's khap panchayats was telecast in actor Amir Khan's show 'Satyamev Jayate', the lid was blown on similar incidents in Maharashtra. In 2013, a pregnant girl from the Gosavi community, who had married a Dalit, was killed by her father, who was being hounded by his community members for his daughter's decision to exercise her choice.

After this, rationalist and anti-superstition crusader Dr Narendra Dabholkar held a conclave against this at Nashik and after his murder, his Samiti's activists continued this.

Lawyer-activist Asim Sarode, who has taken up cudgels for victims, noted that these caste panchayats also imposed their writ during election time, forcing members to vote for a particular party. He recounted a case where a man who arranged dramas had to face the music for asking another man to work as a woman in a play! In Kolhapur, in-laws of a woman who wanted to educate herself were threatened by community elders.

"These cases occurred in the past, but have started coming to light now," said Sarode, adding that lack of a dedicated law created obstacles in the administration of justice.

Incidentally, the Bombay Prevention of Excommunication Act, 1949, was declared as unconstitutional by the Supreme Court in the 1960s. In 2013, the Maharashtra government had told the Bombay high court that it would consider a law and issue guidelines to police stations for dealing with complaints of excommunication.

"A law is necessary as common people are troubled by these caste panchayats," noted Santosh Jadhav, a victim of such kangaroo courts. Jadhav was ostracised by his Kunbi community in 2005 for defying his diktat against contesting for the sarpanch's post at Harihareshwar in Raigad. Jadhav said the lengthy procedures involved in the present system had led to his case languishing.

Incidentally, while such kangaroo courts which are on lines of khap panchayats in the North, impose fines and punishments across castes and religions, Mahatma Gandhi and Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak too had to face this harassment in their lifetime. Social reformer Asghar Ali Engineer who took on the Syedna – the Dawoodi Bohra community's high priest, was also ostracised.

Social boycott defined
According to the bill, any person who individually or in an organised criminal manner commits acts like denying any member/members of his community access to places of worship and compelling him or her to wear or not to wear a specific type of clothing or footwear, shall be deemed to have imposed social boycott or social discrimination.

NEW DELHI: After dropping 'Surya Namaskar' from the official yoga programme to "avoid controversy", the government on Thursday said chanting 'shlokas' during 'International Yoga Day' was not "compulsory" and appealed to Muslims to participate in the event.

Daudi Bohra community members who met the minister welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative and said the event does not have any religious connotations.

Would Syedna and Shehzadas participate in Surya namaskar? Would our Markaz, Mavaid, Jumatkhana, and Masjid become Yoga centers, if PM Modi orders Syedna?

Why not ask the same question to Maulana Syed Kaukab Mujtaba Abidi too?

"There's yoga in namaaz but namaaz isn't yoga. Those who oppose it are enemies of humanity because yoga is for the well being of humans," Maulana Syed Kaukab Mujtaba Abidi, president of Majlis Ulema e Hind (Uttar Pradesh), told reporters.

Nothing wrong in Yog. Suryanamaskar is a solid exercise. Did it a few years back when I had joined classes.

10 rounds of it especially power Yog version and you are set!

Unfortunately everything looked at from communal angle. Facepalm

Tête-à-tête with a Dawoodi Bohra
by Atul Kumar Mishra 17/06/2015 | 4:31 Posted in Social
I like the side seats in trains the most. You have access to a nice broad-windowed view, the vendors do not have to reach for you, and there is a dedicated luggage space right beneath your seat. The seat can be converted into two nice and comfortable chairs at any point of time and if you happen to have a nice traveling companion then nothing like it. I saw the girl on the opposite chair of my seat. She had the Side-Top seat and all side-top ones have a free access to the side-lower seats for sitting purpose in the daytime. It is an established fact. She still courteously sought my permission to continue sitting on “my seat”. I nodded affirmatively. The lady was eerily beautiful. Her phone had an “Azaan” ringtone, she spoke hastily and her pronunciation was impeccable. But what aroused my interest the most was her ‘Burqa’ which was colorful with floral patterns appliqued all over it.

I have a condition, I can’t keep quiet for long.

Me: Hi, my name is Atul

She (reluctantly): Huzefa

She continued fiddling with her iPhone. I took out my phone, checked TFI Facebook Page, replied to some comments, and had a good look at the other inmates of the compartment.

Me: Hey! Can I ask you something? I sincerely hope that I don’t end up offending you.

She: Yes?

Me: You are wearing a very different Burqa unlike any that I have ever seen, it isn’t black…it actually is colorful and has colorful patterns all over it. Mind explaining this to me?

She (smiles): Yes I am a Dawoodi Bohra, that’s why.

Me: Oh! Okay…next question. Who are Dawoodi Bohras?

She: We are a sect of Shia Islam. A minority in fact. Dawoodi Bohras are known as reformists as they keep bringing social reforms in the society. We are the trading class in Muslims. Also we are one of those rare breed of Muslims who do not exactly hate Modi.

Me: Oh! Okay…the Baniyas of Muslims?

She: What’s a Baniya?

Me: Oh! You don’t know about Baniyas? The trading/business class in Hindus…a more civilized way of addressing them would be “Vaishya”

She: Oh! I don’t know much about “You people”

Me: “You people” interesting. What do you do?

She: I just got married so I have taken a break, but I have finished my studies in religion from a world renowned university in Surat.

Me: Nice, so someone with a degree in religion doesn’t understand Hinduism, little weird no?

She: The university study was all about “Our” religion and “Our” sect and not about “you people”

Me: Sounds reasonable. So are you from Delhi?

She: Nope! I am from Mumbai, I completely hate Delhi.

Me: Why do you hate Delhi?

She: Because I don’t have friends here…there aren’t enough people here.

Me: There aren’t enough people in Delhi, wow…that’s intriguing

She (smirks): No! By that I meant, there aren’t enough “our people” in Delhi.

Me: Nope! You are mistaken ma’am, there are a lot of Muslims in Delhi

She: No, I am not talking about Muslims, I am talking about “our people” – The Dawoodi Bohras.

Me: I get that, there aren’t enough Shakdwipi Brahmins in Delhi either but then I don’t mind getting social with “other” people, even “your people”

She: Oh! So you are a Brahmin. I know about Brahmins.

Me: That’s nice, so what do you know about Brahmins?

She: Not a lot actually, I only know that Brahmins are the priestly class

Me: Yes! We are the Pooja-Paath Guys

She: Murti Pooja guys

Me: No! You see we worship statues, photos, trees, planets, stars, animals, stones, rivers, mountains even people…we are pretty cool with worshiping almost anything.

She: Islam is strictly against idol worship, idol worship is confining god and objectifying him

Me: Two questions – How do you know that it’s a him and not a her? And second thing, you guys face Mecca while praying right? So that’s also confining your god in one direction, a different way of objectifying, no?

She: No, yeah…ummm…It’s a He and yeah the direction thing is….ummm

Me: Perhaps you should have asked this question when “prohibition of idol worship” was being taught

She: Well! Okay…you are the third or fourth Hindu guy that I am talking to

Me: Leave that, so have you read the Quran?

She: Yeah!…I am in the process of memorizing it verse by verse

Me: Like Zakir Naik?

She: Haha, yeah like him…but he is not actually a scholar

Me: I never called him a scholar. So what do you have to say about Quran and what did you gain from it?

She: It is the greatest gift of life. It is a treasure of knowledge.

Me: Is it beyond time or can it be amended at some point of time?

She: No, never…it is the truest truth…truth has just one version…Truth can’t be revised

Me: Well…I am pretty sure, but I believe everything has loopholes and must be revised. Geeta, Ramayan, Mahabharata, Puraans, Upnishads…nothing is perfect

She: No that’s unthinkable and is blasphemy

Me: Awesome! What is your take on Polygamy?

She: I am cool with it

Me: Would you like if your husband brings other Begums right inside your home

She: I won’t like it

Me: So you don’t like Polygamy?

She: I am cool with it

Me: You belong to a reformist class, mind you

She: I am too religious to be a reformist, I guess

Me: That pretty much ends the discussion. Tea on me.

She smiled, took a spool of white thread out and started weaving a skullcap with intricate white and gold patterns. I looked at her and felt happy that she was one of those rare breeds who didn’t get offended while discussing religion in spite of being so deeply religious. I felt sad for her because her reformist soul was completely in control of her religious mind.

I guess it's not cool for MS wife as she forced him to divorce SKQ daughter. Funny how they teach these girls in Jamea to be cool with polygamy yet their masters wife's are not cool with it.

There is no future of bohras unless this all ayyash clan is replaced by other people, there has to be an end to this regime which is rotten to the core.

if it was some one else other than khuzaima to claim dai ship I would be more than happy to accept it because it would make sense that IMAM has chose some one else, but since its all the bastards trying to portrait them self holy there is no chance to accept any.
