Error 503: Service temporarily unavailable

#1

Unread post by kimanumanu » Mon Jul 06, 2015 8:42 am

Every now and then I keep getting this error when clicking on posts. I am able to see the main forum page, go to a sub-forum and even see newly posted messages, however, trying to read any message results in the Error 503. As I write this message, I was able to enter the new topic page but I cannot read any messages.

Same here. I have notified admin about this on numerous occasions but admin thinks that its just an individual problem but it seems many people get this error! I can't see any of the posts from my home network (from any device). This has happened after the forum was upgraded.

We are looking into this problem. It looks like a DoS (denial of service) attack and is very difficult to isolate and tackle. We are working on it. Sorry of the inconvenience.

It's weird. My first post was written on a laptop and it went through even though I could not read it back. I am still unable to read any messages from the laptop. However. I am able to read them from my mobile which is on same network as laptop. This does not sound like denial of service.

If DoS is the case, then the cybercrime branch if available should be contacted and a complain must be filed. I see that this website is hosted in Missisauga, Canada. Don't know about DoS laws in Canada.

I have also been monitoring this lately and recently I found an odd occurrence of it. I kept getting Error 503 on my work network but the page loaded ok when I switched to my home network. Googling a bit I came across this: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... ed81c236c1 - the link is talking about emails though so not sure if it is the same but worth checking?

Clearing your browser cache might help.

How are you posting the message? When I had this problem one time I found that I was able to start a new topic but could not view what I posted. I had also found in another instance that I was able to view the page from my mobile but not from my laptop/PC. Finally, I have also had an instance where it would not load when I connected via my work network but was fine from my home network.

Lol.. for me it's the exact opposite. I can access this forum on work network but not on home network! I guess, the website's security system is the culprit which is throwing a lot of false positives -> http://www.sans.org/security-resources/ ... sitive.php

Even clearing browser doesn't help anymore. This problem has cropped up after the first attempt to upgrade the forum a few weeks ago I believe.

@Admin - I guess this 503 error might be keeping a lot of potential new readers away from this forum!

Admin please check this link: http://www.spambotsecurity.com/http://w ... f=9&t=3266

As mentioned earlier, this definitely looks like the server attempting to stop attacks and is getting confused about which IP addresses to block and which to allow. I see this as the logical explanation for why I could load pages on my home network but not from my work network or vice versa.

Admin,

I am no longer having this issue. It started working today. Did you do something to fix it?
