Is India for Hindus only, Bombay HC asks BJP-led Nagpur civic body

The Nagpur bench of the court expressed strong reservations over the plan to recite 'Hanuman Chalisa' at its AIDS awareness event.

The Nagpur bench of the court, while hearing a PIL yesterday, asked NMC “whether India is for Hindus only” and expressed strong reservations over the plan to recite ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ at its AIDS awareness event, in association with Poddareshwar Ram Mandir Trust.

The event is planned at Kasturchand Park ground here tomorrow.

“Why only recital of Hanuman Chalisa and why not from Quran, the Bible or other religious literature? What is the nexus of AIDS awareness and Hanuman Chalisa recital? Is it only Hindus who contract AIDS? Is chanting of Hanuman Chalisa the only remedy for eradication of this deadly disease? the division bench of justices Bhushan Gavai and Swapna Joshi said.

“If people can come for this event, they will also come for recitation of Quran and Bible,” they observed.

The NMC was also asked to give wide publicity to its AIDS awareness programme, without mentioning the Hanuman Chalisa event.

“We dispose the PIL after accepting statements of NMC and Tiwari, that they would totally disassociate with Hanuman Chalisa recital and only hold AIDS programme,” the court said.

The judges said that they were not against any religious programme, but only concerned with government agencies associating with it.

Latehar hangings: Chilling confessions of gau rakshaks

The confessions
Catch has accessed confessions of 5 of the accused in the Latehar hangings
They admit cow protection was the motive behind the murder of Majloom Ansari & Imtiyaz Khan
According to them, Arun Sau strangled both the victims, including 12-year-old Imtiyaz

Catch has in its possession confessions of the 5 accused to the police which clearly show that the motive behind the murders was indeed cow protection. It wasn't, as a few news reports had claimed, a case of loot driven by business rivalry.

All five accused who were arrested by the police have confessed to their crime. Their confessions also indicate that Arun Sau, the alleged Bajrang Dal activist, was the mastermind behind the murders.

Two of the accused recollect that it was Arun who strangled Majloom and 12-year-old Imtiyaz with a rope and killed them.

Establishing the cow-protection links to the murders, one of the accused - by Mithilesh Sau alias Bunty - states that whatever he did was because of the responsibility given to him by the Gau Raksha Samiti. This makes the motive behind the murders evidently clear.

Locals in Balumath say that Sau was the Balumath block in-charge of the Bajrang Dal. "There was a board saying 'Bajrang Dal Prakhand Pramukh' outside the Mahavir Mandir in Balumath but it was removed immediately after the incident," a local told Catch on condition of anonymity.

Some other locals in Balumath claim that Arun Sau had a history of such assaults.

Despite the clearly ideological motives behind the murders, the administration is downplaying the cow protection links to the murder.

Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Scathing Attacks on Hindutva and Hindu Rashtra

On the Eve of Babasaheb's 125th Birth Anniversary, April 14, 2016, the Haryana Government Heaps Insults on Dalit History by renaming Gurgaon as Gurugram

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is terribly busy re-writing history these days. It will be more appropriate to call it a guillotining of history, as facts and historical realities are being sacrificed at the altar of the political ambitions of the Hindutvawaadis.

So far this ‘creativity’ was restricted to the works and words of Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh and Sardar Patel. Of late Babasaheb Ambedkar appears to have become the latest victim of the malafide manufacturing of history by the flag-bearers of Hindutva. Dr Ambedkar is being –assiduously and insidiously -- presented as a leader in the league of (sic) K.B. Hedgewar and M.S. Golwalkar: Defending the cause of the Hindu Rashtra.

Way back in 2003 it was Vinay Katiyar, the former head of Bajrang Dal and a diehard product of RSS cadres, who first declared that B.R. Ambedkar was a great supporter of both Hindutva and the Hindu Rashtra, just like KB Hedgewar, the founder of the RSS.

In the more recent past, this attempt at hijacking of Dr. Ambedkar has accelerated with the coming to power of the RSS-BJP combine in India in 2014. True to its tradition, RSS-sponsored ‘think tanks and 'thinkers' have started manufacturing their version of a manipulated history. They have –predictably but no less shamelessly –gone to the extent of putting words in Ambedkar’s mouth; attributing to him –Babasaheb—words that he neither spoke, wrote or believed.

On the eve of 124th birth anniversary of Dr. Ambedkar (2015), the RSS published special issues of both its English and Hindi organs. One of the articles in these, written by a joint general secretary of the RSS, Krishna Gopal said, “Untouchability was not part of Hinduism but originated during the 'Muslim' rule.” According to Gopal: "He (Ambedkar) says Untouchability encrypted Hindu society 12 to 13 hundred years ago."

Now this is as bizarre as it is untrue. Dr. Ambedkar renounced Hinduism in 1956 because of its repressive elements and converted to Buddhism.

In his remarkably written, polemical piece, What Congress and Gandhi Have Done to the Untouchables, he wrote, “To put the matter in general terms, Hinduism and social union are incompatible. By its very genius Hinduism believes in social separation which is another name for social disunity and even creates social separation. If Hindus wish to be one, they will have to discard Hinduism. They cannot be one without violating Hinduism. Hinduism is the greatest obstacle to Hindu Unity. Hinduism cannot create that longing to belong which is the basis of all social unity. On the contrary Hinduism creates an eagerness to separate”.

These crass efforts to portray Dr. Ambedkar and his legacy,to parade him so to say, as a supporter of Hindutva do him great injustice. Throughout his life he was a great opponent to the politics of Hindutva and the Muslim League, both. His book, Pakistan or The Partition of India (1940) is a living testimony of his views. They are well articulated and speak out against the nefarious designs of communal elements in India. His ideas and warnings on Hindutva contained in this book can, and must, work as great bulwark in checking the resurgence of forces of Hindu communalism.

Contrary to what RSS 'thinkers' are telling us, Dr. Ambedkar felt thus, “If Hindu Raj does become a fact, it will, no doubt, be the greatest calamity for this country No matter what the Hindus say. Hinduism is a menace to liberty, equality and fraternity. On that account it is incompatible with democracy. Hindu Raj must be prevented at any cost.” According to him the pet slogan of Hindutvawaadis —Hindustan for Hindus—is and was, not merely an arrogantly held belief but amounted to, arrant nonsense.

Ambedkar was of the firm opinion that Hindutva was nothing but a ploy of high caste Hindus to maintain their hegemony over the resources of society. While comparing them with Muslim communalists he said: “The Hindus are the more difficult of the two parties to the question. In this connection it is enough to consider the reaction of the high caste Hindus only. For, it is they who guide the Hindu masses and form Hindu opinion. Unfortunately, the high caste Hindus are bad as leaders. They have a trait of character which often leads the Hindus to disaster. This trait is formed by their acquisitive instinct and aversion to share with others the good things of life. They have a monopoly of education and wealth, and with wealth and education they have captured the State. To keep this monopoly to themselves has been the ambition and goal of their life. Charged with this selfish idea of class domination, they take every move to exclude the lower classes of Hindus from wealth, education and power...This attitude of keeping education, wealth and power as a close preserve for themselves and refusing to share it, which the high caste Hindus have developed in their relation with the lower classes of Hindus, is sought to be extended by them to the Muslims. They want to exclude the Muslims from place and power, as they have done to the lower class Hindus. This trait of the high caste Hindus is the key to the understanding of their politics.”

Ambedkar as a leader and fighter for a Secular India did not differentiate between the flag-bearers of Hindutva and the Muslim League. He treated them as two faces of the same coin bent upon destroying India. He wrote: “Strange as it may appear, Mr. Savarkar and Mr. Jinnah instead of being opposed to each other on the one nation versus two nations issue are in complete agreement about it. Both agree, not only agree but insist that there are two nations in India—one the Muslim nation and the other Hindu nation.”

Baba Saheb did not mince words either, when he wrote, “It must be said that Mr. Savarkar's attitude is illogical, if not queer. Mr. Savarkar admits that the Muslims are a separate nation. He concedes that they have a right to cultural autonomy. He allows them to have a national flag. Yet he opposes the demand of the Muslim nation for a separate national home. If he claims a national home for the Hindu nation, how can he refuse the claim of the Muslim nation for a national home?”

Dr. Ambedkar was fully conscious of the real designs the politics of Hindutva on the minorities. He believed there would not have been any problem if Hindus and Muslims were allowed to live as partners with mutual respect and accord. But according to him, “this is not to be, because Mr. Savarkar will not allow the Muslim nation to be co-equal in authority with the Hindu nation. He wants the Hindu nation to be dominant nation and the Muslim nation to be the servient one.”

Ambedkar as a true secularist stood for "forming mixed political parties based on an agreed programme of social and economic regeneration, and thereby avoid the danger of both Hindu Raj or Muslim Raj becoming a fact. Nor should the formation of a mixed party of Hindus and Muslims be difficult in India. There are many lower orders in the Hindu society, whose economic, political and social needs are the same as those of the majority of the Muslims and they would be far more ready to make a common cause with the Muslims for achieving common end than they would with the high caste of Hindus who have denied and deprived them of ordinary human right for centuries.”

We must not forget that Dr. Ambedkar was forced to resign as India’s first law minister in 1951 due to an aggressive campaign against him by these very Hindutva organisations that today brazenly try to appropriate him and his legacy. Dr Ambedkar was made the target of a bitter campaign by the proponents of Hindutva who were opposed to his draft of Hindu Code Bill which aimed at providing share to Hindu women in property and gender equality.

Why is it, that despite this inherent contradiction -- embodied in the anti-Hindutva ideas and analyses by Dr. Ambedkar himself -- and Hindutva's antipathy to the egalitarian agenda of Babasaheb, is the RSS embroiled in this Goebelsian propaganda about his orientation and legacy?

One of the reasons is that the RSS –that seeks to be the moral arbiter of the Modi Regime’s brand of Hindutva -- has played absolutely no role in the freedom struggle of the country and is desperate to claim some part of that heroic heritage.

But the RSS needs Dr. Ambedkar for another reason too. Despite the doublespeak by this regime on globalisation, the Indian Government led by its favourite swayamsevaks has also been functioning as a stooge for the forces of crony capitalism. India’s Dalits have been the worst victims of this process –transfer of public resources to the private sector -- of both liberalisation and globalisation as they are, sectorally, the worst sufferers – among those who have lost livelihood in the public sector. The present breed of politicians governed by the ideology of Hindutva ---by creating a public facade of love for Dr. Ambedkar-- wants to, in actuality, through this empty symbolism, also hide its real anti-people face.

How much do the leaders who espouse Hindutva actually respect Baba Saheb and Dalit sentiments? The answer can be had from their most recent action on the eve of 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Ambedkar.

The RSS/BJP ruled Haryana government has decided to change the name of its major city Gurgaon to Gurugram. This change has been justified on the ground that this area was the abode of Guru Dronacharya during the times of the Mahabharata; hence the change is to honour him.

There could not be a worse humiliation of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, a Dalit icon on his 125th birth anniversary. Guru Dronacharya was the Guru who deceitfully deprived a fine archer, Ekalavya of his thumb (by demanding that his thumb be sacrificed as 'guru dakshina') so that he could not compete –and win—an archery contest with the Guru's high Caste Kaurav and Pandava students!

This renaming of Gurgaon to Gurugram does not merely reveal the brazen insensitivity of RSS/BJP rulers to the History of the Oppressed, Dalit Bahujan History on Dr Ambedkar's 125th Birth Anniversary. This action, like many others, also exposes the contradictions and hypocrisies inherent within the politics of Hindutva.

The Hindutva Brigade has been changing names of Indian cities in a Hinduised manner as follows :-

Bombay is now Mumbai
Poona is Pune
Nasik is Nashik
Thana is Thane
Sion station is Shiv
Gurgaon is Gurugram
and the Modi govt also tried its level best to rename Ahmedabad as Karnavati and couldn't do so due to stiff resistance but still one can see the spelling change at many places where Ahmedabad is written as Amdavad.
Shiv Sena has also been trying hard to change the name of Ahmednagar city to Sambhaji Nagar'

VHP wants Congress govt to change Shimla to Shyamla

Taking a leaf out of Haryana's BJP-led government's decision to change Gurgaon to Gurugram, Himachal Pradesh unit of Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) wants the Virbhadra Singh government to do the same in the state by changing Shimla's name to Shyamla.

The Hindu organisation has also handed over a list of other Himachal towns, including famous hill destination of Dalhousie, to be named as Subhash Nagar after Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

Besides renaming Shimla as Shyamala, which has reference in history books and documents as a place named after Ma Shyamla (Goddess Kali), the VHP also asked that Peterhoff, an HPTDC hotel-cum-state guest house should be renamed as Valmiki sadan, while Nurpur town of Kangra should become Ram Singh Pathania, a valiant soldier who fought against the Britishers in 1857.

When contacted, Deputy Mayor Tikender Panwar said nobody should be allowed to temper with name of Shimla as this being a world famous place. It's very funny to note VHP being up at its agenda to promote deities and typical Hinduised feelings. "What locus standi the VHP has to seek conversion of names of popular places. Simla has already become Shimla. There should be no change," he said.

Asha Kumari, a Dalhousie MLA and former minister, said the demand of VHP is laughable. "I vehemently oppose such a demand as Dalhousie has always been Dalhousie since its been part of erstwhile Chamba state. VHP should mind its own business rather drawing cheap publicity."

‘It’s a fight of Sanghistan vs Hindustan’

JNU Student’s Union president Kanhaiya Kumar on Thursday mounted a scathing attack on the RSS in a city where the Sangh’s headquarters is located.

Taking a jibe at the RSS, he said Nagpur was B.R. Ambedkar’s land and not M.S. Golwalkar’s (second RSS chief) the way Gujarat was Gandhi’s land and not Modi’s.

He dared the RSS to come clear on its stand on the Hindu Code Bill, equal rights for women, equal land distribution and distribution of the country’s wealth as per its population and also asked it to burn Manusmriti.

“Nagpur is not a home to people with half pants [RSS uniform], but it’s a place of people with full brain. Those, who did not unfurl the national flag at their headquarters for over 50 years, those who sided with the British and provided them intelligence, are teaching us patriotism now. It’s a fight of Sanghistan [RSS’ model of nation] versus Hindustan. We have to unite to save Hindustan against Sanghistan,” Mr. Kanhaiya told a roaring crowd.

He claimed that the BJP government and the RSS “conspired” to defame the Jawaharlal Nehru University by making a doctored video by offering bribe of a Rajya Sabha berth to a person when the university students started demanding justice for Hyderabad University scholar Rohith Vemula who committed suicide.

Mr. Kanhaiya attacked Mr. Modi and said son of a tea seller had become Prime Minister but he did not do anything for the tea seller.

“To defeat a big enemy of 56-inch chest, we need three smaller men of 18-inch chest. Let us defeat the bigger enemy first, we can sort out our issues later,” he said in reference to the PM.

Stressing the need to forming a society based on the ideals of social justice professed by Dr. Ambedkar, the JNUSU president said the proletariat which included Adivasis, Dalits, Backward Classes, minorities and women need to “unite and fight.”

Our resident RSS mouthpiece will go round and round in circles and instead of accepting the fact he will drag the Muslim community in the discussion and blame them for being the reason behind BJP/RSS burning the train.

there is nothing new said in this article.
similar writings have been going on since 2002.
anyway i did not say muslim burnt the train or not.
and the writer is well known in gujrati and urdu publication-abdul hafiz lakhani known for his muslim centric views.
the problem is riots are happening in this country since 1947 or much before.
many riots happened even more damgaing than this and also by muslim people.
taking riots as a criteria is itself a very shallow arguement.
harping on one riots since more than 15 years itself shows u have nothing else than hatred.
and more ghastly incident has taken place in kerala and bengal and malda .
in bengal where elections are taking place, one MLA publicly called his constituency as mini pakistan.
but no word from you, that shows communal mindset.
nobody condones godra riots, but u selectively picking that for ur continued hatred against them shows how biased ur mindset is.
ur telling about facts--the fact is after the worst riots of godhra--muslims(more than population of many small countries) are still living and prospering than many muslim majority place like kannur and bengal, and kashimir and UPwhere they have wiped out minority.

Do you know the difference between "Spontaneous" Riots and "State sponsored" riots ??? Now don't blow your RSS/BJP trumpet by saying that these were not state sponsored riots as there are multiple articles from across the world to prove that the Gujarat 2002 riots (It should be Mass Genocide) were state sponsored and a stepping stone to Modi's elevation as PM.

Growing Intolerance in a Tolerant Society

Ram Puniyani

Towards the end of 2015 many a writers and accomplished eminent citizens returned their national honors; protesting against the growing atmosphere of intolerance. The list was long and this acted as a process where some introspection took place in the society. Still the ruling dispensation and its associates in the Hindu right wing politics, the RSS combine, began criticizing those who returned their awards, accusing them of being politically motivated. They were also criticized for doing so to influence the forthcoming state assembly elections in Bihar.

Most of the awardees stood their ground as the perceptions about tolerance; freedom of expression had crossed the threshold and had undergone qualitative change. This gets confirmed in a 2015 report by US Commission for International Religious Freedom. This USCIRF is a bipartisan US Federal Government Commission. This is first of its kind in the World and is aiming at defending the universal right to freedom of religion or belief in the World. The report is very scathing and points out the state of religious freedom in India. As per the report freedom in India is on a negative trajectory, religious tolerance deteriorated and ‘religious freedom’ violations increased during 2015.

The report points out, “In 2015, religious tolerance deteriorated and religious freedom violations increased in India…minority communities especially Christians, Muslims and Sikhs experienced numerous incidents of intimidation, harassment and violence, largely at the hands of Hindu nationalist groups.” The report outlines the violations and points that USCRIF will continue to monitor the situation and may have to recommend to the state department that India should be kept under ‘the country with particular concern’. It is a significant report which goes on say that US Government should keep this in mind while shaping the bilateral contacts with India and future of ‘strategic dialogues’ should be determined according to that.

The USCRIF suggests that the Indian Government publically rebut officials and religious leaders that make derogatory statements about religious communities. This is the crux of the matter. Those understanding Indian politics know by now more clearly than before that the leaders making derogatory comments are either directly the part of ruling party, like Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, Giriaraj Singh (both minsters at center) or leading members of Parliament like Yogi Adityanath or Sakshi Maharaj. Then there are others who belong to the affiliate organizations like VHP, Bajrang Dal, which again are part of the broader Sangh Privar or more precisely RSS Combine.

When these statements derogatory to religious minorities are made some from the ruling party will come forward to say that this is not the official position of the party and stop at that. There is neither a reprimand neither demotion of the person concerned. Many have made these derogatory comments even before coming to power like Giriraj Singh but despite that they have been given the positions of power. At these times Mr. Modi, who is presented as a powerful Prime Minister keeps silent for weeks and later comes with some lame unconvincing statement, which is no setback to the one making the statement. It may a sort of pat in the back of the person.

As such it seems to be a coordinated game. Someone makes the provocative statement, and some others from RSS stable come to defend/justify him/her and some other say it is not official while Modi keeps a deliberate silence. Interestingly some statements need not sound derogatory to begin with. Hindutva’s patriarch RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat’s statement about shouting Bharat Mata ki Jai (Hail mother India) is very revealing. First; he said that we should teach the younger generation to say this. Then he took a step back saying it should not be compulsory. In response to this Asaduddin Owaisi of MIM gave and unwarranted statement that he will not say so even if a knife is put on his throat. To take the story further Maharashtra Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said it is a must for all those who want to stay in India. As a matter of fact this is a subtle intimidation of the religious minorities who don’t worship anybody but Allah as per Bharat Mata ki Jai, it becomes like hailing mother Goddess, which they say is not permitted by Islam.

The RSS fellow traveler Yoga guru and entrepreneur Baba Ramdev said that had Constitution not been there by now lakhs would have been beheaded. This is at the top rungs of society, what goes down below from this is that certain elements will ask non Hindus to shout this slogan and refusal to do that may result in unpleasant situation. The writers of report in their naivety may have given this suggestion, not knowing that currently the divisiveness in India is being spread from bottom up and the protection for these elements is coming from the top down.

This is not an enviable situation for democracy in India. The quality of democracy is to be judged by the degree of safety and security of the religious minorities. True, even earlier also anti minority violence was there but now with the BJP Government at centre the intolerance and divisiveness has undergone a sea change. What the awardees were feeling has lots of truth; the feeling of insecurity is accompanied by the gag on freedom of expression, which is going together with the intolerance.

The report has come out at a time Modi is packing his bags for a major trip to US. It is the same place where he was denied VISA for long years due to Gujarat carnage which took place when he was Chief Minister of Gujarat. Will the US establishment’s policies change due to this report? That is a million dollar question, but as now Modi is the Prime Minster and India fits in to the scheme of things designed by US, this time around VISA will not be an issue and Mr. Modi can look forward to one more trip abroad, while such reports can keep adorning the shelves in libraries.

u must be novice to think that any riots are spontaneous. whether state sponsored or not, all riots are well organised.
due to think riots in malda were spontaneous where lakhs of people gathered in the name of denouncing something uttered by a man 1000 of miles away and who is already in jail?
who burnt ur states police station and burnt all minority shops were spontaneous?
exodus of minority in kashmir were spontaneous?
call for jihad and raping hindu women and then telling to leave thier mensfolk were spontaneous?
regular stone pelting is sponataneous?
cutting hand of thomas teacher in kerala over a alleged blashphemous question paper is spontaneous?

Despite the NDA government's run-ins with NGOs and the impression that it is "unfriendly" to minority institutions, there has been a sharp rise in central funds sanctioned to voluntary organisations and other entities empanelled under free coaching and allied schemes for minority communities.
Figures presented by minority affairs minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi in Lok Sabha on Wednesday show that disbursals in 2014-15 recorded a significant jump over 2013-14 when UPA was in office. Replying to former Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa's question, Naqvi gave a detailed reply stating that in 2014-15, Rs 3,051 lakh was sanctioned to 96 NGOs and other organisations for free coaching and allied schemes for minority communities. This further increased in 2015-16 with Rs 4,486 lakh sanctioned to 68 NGOs. Under UPA in 2013-14, the amount released to 93 NGOs was Rs 1,946 lakh.
Among states, Andhra Pradesh (including Telengana) was the biggest beneficiary receiving Rs 1,095 lakh in 2014-15 and Rs 160 lakh in 2015-16 against Rs 398 lakh sanctioned in 2013-14. Uttar Pradesh, which has a large concentration of minority communities, received Rs 430 lakh in 2014-15 and Rs 559 lakh in 2015-16. During the UPA tenure, the state was sanctioned Rs 443 lakh but the amount was for 20 NGOs whereas NDA disbursed almost the same amount to 16 NGOs.
The Rs 559.05 lakh in 2015-16 went to 13 such organisations. The minister informed about free coaching and allied schemes, 'seekho aur kamaao' and 'nai roshni', under minority affairs ministry. After NDA took over, Rs 46 crore and Rs 191 crore were sanctioned under "Seekho aur Kamaao" in 2014-15 and 2015-16 respectively. In 2013-14, Rs 16 crore was sanctioned. Under "Nai Roshni" government sanctioned Rs 13 crore (2014-15) and 14 crore (2015-16) against Rs 11 crore in 2013-14.

Our resident RSS mouthpiece qutub_mamajiwala is more knowledgeable and has more information on bad Muslims then even the Supreme Court of India's ex-judge, Mr. Markanand Katju !!!

Why blame Muslim community for all bomb blasts, Katju asks media

Press Council of India Chairman Markandey Katju on Sunday lashed out at media for “demonising” the entire Muslim community whenever bomb blasts occurred, and declared that he would not allow it to do such “devilish” things.

Whenever bomb blasts occurred, television channels start showing, within an hour, that an e-mail or SMS had come either from the Indian Mujahideen, Jaish-e-Mohammed or the Harkat-ul-Jihad, claiming responsibility.

Justice Katju was addressing a symposium on “Reporting terror: how sensitive is the media?” organised by The Hindu here.

Pointing out that an SMS or e-mail could be sent by any mischievous person, he said when TV channels showed them and the print media published it the next day, the message they were sending was that all Muslims were terrorists and that “they have nothing to do except to throw bombs.”

Terming it a “totally irresponsible behaviour” which promoted communalism, he asked: “Do you have freedom to spread communalism.” He would not allow media to do “such devilish things. You will have to have responsibility in national interest.”

Freedom was not absolute and every freedom was subjected to reasonable restriction in public interest.

Unfortunately, Muslims were discriminated against in various spheres, including jobs, getting bank loans and houses on rent. “You must address these problems.”

Hindu Sena holds havan for Donald Trump, the ‘saviour of humanity from Islamic terror’

Tilak on his forehead, the smell of incense in the air and prayers for his victory in the US presidential elections in November. If you’re wondering whether Donald Trump visited a temple during his campaign, think again.

Trump may never have heard of the Hindu Sena, but that didn’t stop the right-wing organisation from holding a havan for the victory of the presumptive Republican nominee. Members of the Sena believe that Trump is the man who will “save humanity from Islam and Islamic terror.”

To pledge their “support” for the billionaire businessman, over a dozen Hindu Sena members gathered at Jantar Mantar with a pandit in tow and posters of Trump, either beaming or waving, in their hands. The havan began at 12.30 pm and continued for an hour, during which Hindu Sena members urged god to shower his blessings on Trump.

They say they will not support Trump’s opponent, Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton. “She talks secularism. She has said nothing about tackling Muslims. Only Trump has a plan,” say Hindu Sena members.

“Aise mein ek hi aasha ki kiran hai (in these circumstances, there is only one ray of hope),” he says.

Tribal Christians flee Indian village following threat

Six families of Gond tribal Christians have fled their village in the central Indian Chhattisgarh state after Hindu neighbors allegedly threatened to kill them if they didn't convert, their pastor has said.

Following a week of harassment and attacks, all 37 Christians fled Katodi village in Kanker district on April 29, Moses Annel told ucanews.com May 2.

They were "beaten up and their houses were destroyed" after they refused the majority Hindu tribal villagers' "demand to give up their Christian faith," Annel said.

Korar police officials confirmed tensions and said a Maoist insurgency has made it difficult for them to inspect the village.

Following the Christians' complaints, district officials intervened and brokered a peace between the parties. All were sent back to the village with assurances from Hindu villagers that they would not harm the Christians.

But on April 29, the villagers demolished the houses of Christians and prevented them from fetching water from the common water source, the pastor said.

The attackers also threatened they would kill them if the Christian villagers did not remove the police complaint, Annel said.

That threat forced the Christians to flee their village to a hill top forest at least 70 kilometers away.

The state, ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party, a Hindu-nationalist party, has become a hotbed of anti-Christian violence with right-wing Hindu groups attacking Christians with impunity.

Christian leaders said police are indifferent to attacks on Christians and that the government tacitly supports violence on religious minorities.

Father Sebastian Poomattam, vicar general of Raipur Archdiocese, said the situation has worsened after Narendra Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party came to power in New Delhi two years ago.

"Our life has become miserable" after Modi began to head the federal government, he said. "We see a sudden rise in the attacks against Christians in the past couple of years," he said, adding, "These are all organized attacks."

The Evangelical Fellowship of India has documented at least four verified incidents of hate crimes targeting Christians from January to March in the state.

However, Chhattisgarh Christian Forum president Arun Pannalal said there were at least 20 cases of attacks on Christians this year so far.

Presstitute ARRESTED for doing Forgery to DEFAME MODI Government; Here are the details

Pushp Sharma had released a FAKE RTI report where allegedly the ministry said that it does not hire Muslims. The ministry had later clarified that this was never the policy and that the RTI was forged. Pushp Sharma stood his ground and lied that the report was actually from the ministry. His fake report was published in many reputed and other newspapers & websites all over the internet. This led to lot of negative publicity for Modi government.

The police has finally taken action on this and arrested the presstitute. The police had questioned him for few days after the report was out in media. The RTI report was also sent to forensics for test.

SAFFRONISATION OF INDIAN HISTORY IN MODI RAJ !!

Open Letter To Smriti Irani & The Education Board

Recently there has been a flurry of news about erasing Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru’s name in schoolbooks in Rajasthan. The book in question has been uploaded (it is not yet in print) by the publisher Rajasthan Rajya Pathyapustak Mandal, and immediately a voice of complaint has arisen from Congress supporters over the fact that the country’s first Prime Minister, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru’s name does not appear in the Class VIII textbook. This admittedly looks as if it were somewhat planned, as Mahatma Gandhi, Bhaghat Singh, Subhash Chandra Bose, Veer Savarkar and other freedom fighters were all featured. He is not mentioned even once, although he had been one of the most prominent members of the freedom fight.

Additionally, the assassination of the Mahatma by Nathuram Godse was also not featured whilst Akbar’s suffix ‘the Great’ has been handed to Maharana Pratap (in the Class VII textbook for medieval history). This is in addition to the photograph of a CBSE Yearly Calendar posted on Twitter today, in which November 14th, Bal Diwas and Pt. Nehru’s birthday has also been erased, whilst other famous figures did have their birth dates in print.

I do not think that Congress should be the only party raising their voice about this matter. Pt. Nehru, Mahatma Gandhi, and all the other freedom fighters did not merely achieve independence for the Congress Party but rather for the entirety of India. To erase even a part of this history, be it a freedom fighter or the assassination of Gandhiji, is an affront to our nation itself. Who are we to say what is right and what is wrong? Is it not our job to learn the history, and then form opinions of it? Are not our schoolchildren destined to question and decipher the policies and decisions made by Pt. Nehru, the atrocities suffered by our country by the hands of the British, the shooting of Gandhiji – are they to be blind to it all? We must learn the rules before we break the rules; before an aspiring young politician wants to emerge into the scene, he must first learn about those who preceded him; hence, Pt. Nehru and history cannot be erased.

I am sorry to make this comparison, but this is a move similar to the British Raj – a Macaulay-esque move. As he rubbished Indian Literature and promoted the British, aren’t we doing the same by essentially rubbishing those we do not agree with and promoting who we personally care for? Saying Jawaharlal Nehru did not exist will not erase the fact that he stood with the other fighters. Saying Akbar was not great and Maharana Pratap was, will not remove the title from his records. But it will remove them from the minds of our future students, those who will not know a word of ‘Tryst with Destiny.’ Even if ‘the light has gone out of our life’ is omitted, it will not have erased the fact that the light indeed went out of our lives, that it was shot out by Godse. We, as a country, have had enough of our history and literature being trivialized by the British. Please do not do the same. And to erase Children’s Day? Is there even the most cynical eye that could spot anything ‘depraved’ or anti-nationalistic about having Children’s Day on the birthday of a PM who had loved kids?

In comparison with Germany, where schoolchildren are forced to learn every atrocity committed by Hitler, with Britain where they are to learn about how their empire exploited others, with the US where children learn of slavery, would it not be backward and hypocritical of our Indian children to not know who shot Gandhi? Who our first Prime Minister was, what historic words he had said on the 15th of August, 1947?

And the fact that Godse is not mentioned? Could you imagine in ten years, whilst Americans still remember the name of every terrorist involved in 9/11, our children begin to think that Gandhiji died of his own accord?

For it only starts with Pt. Nehru – imagine how much worse it could get, imagine who else could be erased.

Hindutva Terror

The horrifying spectacle of the Mumbai terror attacks that held us all paralysed for 60 hours, killing more than 187 persons and injuring dozens, also took the pressure off the saffron alliance, squirming for once, for being openly associated with acts of bomb terror. The sangh parivar, including its parliamentary face, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), had been facing acute embarrassment, October through November 2008, over the revelations in the Malegaon blast investigations. Six persons died when pipe bombs placed on a motorcycle in a crowded street of Malegaon exploded on September 29, 2008, the eve of Id celebrations in the month of Ramadan.

The slaying of Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief, Hemant Karkare, along with 13 others from the Mumbai police (a total of 17 men from law enforcement died in the attacks) at the hands of Ajmal Kasab and his accomplices on November 26 had an unexpected consequence. The self-appointed saffron torch-bearers of Indian (read Hindutva) patriotism were miffed into silence. The reason? They, who had been busy tearing Karkare’s reputation to shreds for weeks before and right up to the day he was killed, had now been embarrassed into acknowledging him as martyr. But for Karkare’s death, these graceless pseudo-patriots would have cynically raised the public temper to a far more hysterical note, baying for some blood.

What was Karkare’s crime, for which he was a hunted man, targeted by the sangh parivar the day he died? He had dared to carry out the Malegaon blast investigations with integrity and transparency, tracing the masterminds of the crime to a serving lieutenant colonel in the Indian army, Srikant Purohit (who was ably assisted by other, retired army personnel), a Sadhvi, Pragnya Thakur, and Swami Dayanand Pandey among others. Purohit’s close association with an organisation called Abhinav Bharat and the Sadhvi’s own links to the student wing of the BJP, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), embarrassed the highest echelons of the parivar. Moreover, the Sadhvi has also been a popular part of the BJP’s campaign trail in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.

On January 20, 2009 the ATS under its former chief, KP Raghuvanshi, filed the charge sheet in the Malegaon blast case naming 14 persons (11 under arrest and three absconding) as accused, holding them guilty of crimes under 16 major sections of Indian criminal law, including murder and criminal conspiracy.

This was not the first time that the insidious hand of the Hindutvavadi terrorist was revealed. The Malegaon blast investigation is the ATS Maharashtra’s third serious investigation into Hindutva-driven terror.

During interrogations, Rakesh Dhawade, one of the accused named by the ATS Maharashtra in the Malegaon charge sheet, confessed his involvement in the consistent training of seven-eight youth, who were instructed in the preparation and detonation of bombs, at a location near the Sinhgad Fort, Pune, in July-August 2003.

A third such investigation, also underway in Maharashtra, is related to the Thane-Panvel blasts of 2008. In October 2008 the then ATS Maharashtra chief, Karkare, had also investigated and charge-sheeted persons accused in the Thane-Panvel blasts where activists from the Hindutvavadi outfits, Sanatan Sanstha and Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, were involved. The 1,020-page charge sheet named six accused charged with attempt to murder, criminal conspiracy, causing disappearance of evidence and causing damage to property under the IPC as well as sections of the Arms Act, the Explosive Substances Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Significantly, the ATS did not directly implicate the organisations in the crime. At other times similar incidents, where Hindutvavadi outfits were found to be involved in explosives creation, have surfaced only to be suppressed. A blast also occurred at Modasa in Gujarat’s Sabarkantha district on September 29, 2008, the same day as in Malegaon, and primary evidence pointed to a link between this incident and the group(s) responsible for the Malegaon terrorist attack. The Gujarat police however have brazenly refused to make public any details of the incident.

In the charge sheet filed in the Malegaon case, a significant omission is the ATS’s failure to charge-sheet the accused under Section 125 of the IPC for waging war against the nation despite some serious ingredients of the crime being in evidence.

Instances of RDX leakage from the armed forces that have surfaced in over a dozen cases all over Maharashtra since 2002 have also not been treated with the severity the offence demands.

The ATS has also spared two important private institutes, the Bhonsala Military Schools at Nashik and Nagpur, which were found to have been regularly used for terror training and bomb-making, as well as the Akanksha Resort at Sinhgad near Pune. These institutes enjoy patronage from the highest echelons of the sangh parivar. These locations had earlier been used to train cadre in bomb-making as has been revealed in the Nanded blast charge sheets filed by the ATS in 2006.

Both the Nanded investigations as well as the Malegaon probe have pointed to the indoctrination/inspiration provided by high-profile rabble-rousing leaders of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Dr Praveen Togadia and Acharya Giriraj Kishore, in exhorting youngsters towards these acts, both individuals having allegedly visited Nanded on the eve of the blast in 2006. The ATS has been wary of drawing them into the charge sheet as accused or witnesses, however. Similarly, in the Malegaon case, the involvement of Himani Savarkar, niece of Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin, Nathuram Godse, and daughter-in-law of Narayan Savarkar, the brother of Hindutva ideologue, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, is also handled with kid gloves. Himani Savarkar, a member of Abhinav Bharat, (who is on record on video as saying that she supports the ‘bomb versus bomb theory’) was, according to the ATS’s own investigations, also present at the meeting in which the Malegaon conspiracy was hatched. She is not named as part of the conspiracy but is only named as witness.

Links to other blasts in which this widespread terror ring may be involved have also surfaced during these investigations. During a narco analysis test conducted on November 9, 2008 Lt Col Srikant Purohit spilt the beans about his own role in, and his network’s connections to, the Samjhauta Express blasts that occurred on February 18-19, 2007, killing 68 persons, most of them Pakistanis. Similarly, he spoke during his interrogations of a possible role in the Ajmer Sharif blast (that killed two persons) and the Mecca Masjid blast in Hyderabad (where 11 people died in the blast and five in subsequent police firing).

The reluctance of the authorities to track and trace the vicious spread of Hindutva’s terror network despite its systematic planning and exhaustive training in violence is a historical legacy. Eight attempts were made on Gandhi’s life before the final one on January 30, 1948 was successful. Yet public discourse is reluctant to recognise that the first act of terror perpetrated on independent India’s soil stemmed from determined and vicious planning by the Hindu Right.

Cleverly but not entirely influenced by the ideologues of the BJP and the sangh parivar who are omnipresent in the national media, Hindutva-driven terror is slotted by definition as reactive and through this association as less pervasive and dangerous than the jihadi’s murderous games. Its easy and natural certificate of association with patriotism lends a further dangerous ambivalence to the Hindutvavadi’s actions.

It is a strategy cultivated through propaganda which stresses that any violence stemming from the Hindu fold is only retaliatory, driven by a righteous angst against the heap of injustices perpetrated on ‘us’ in the name of Islam. Where jihadi attacks are seen as only the most recent manifestation of a centuries old plan to devour this civilisation through invasions of both a physical and moral kind.

Why saffron terror is not a myth

By shielding Hindu terror suspects, the Modi government is making a big mistake. It should learn from Pakistan’s blunders.

The Sangh Parivar always accuses the Congress of being soft on terrorism. However, when the Sangh uses the word terrorism it actually means Islamic terrorism. When it comes to terror activities of Hindutva groups, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Bharatiya Janata Party refuse to even accept that it exists.

In the post-Gujarat riot days, some Western commentators wrote about the threats from Hindu terror groups to minorities in India. However, the parlance did not reach India till 2010, when Home Minister P Chidambaram described the threat as “saffron terrorism” to a gathering of intelligence officials. Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat at the time. Taking a swipe at Chidambaram, Modi asked him to name the colour for terror in Kashmir. The Hindu Hridaya Samrat even organised a Bhagwa Gaurav Andolan (saffron pride campaign) in his state following Chidambaram’s remarks.

But Chidambaram was not the first one to raise this saffron flag. In December 2010, WikiLeaks cables revealed that a year before, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had warned the American ambassador in Delhi about the potential threats from Hindu terror groups “which create religious tensions and political confrontations with the Muslim community”.

In 2013, Chidambaram’s successor Sushil Kumar Shinde again brought the danger of saffron terror into the public domain, but the Opposition led by the BJP forced him to retract his statement. Though Shinde retracted it, his home secretary and the present BJP MP RK Singh had confirmed that Shinde’s statement was based on findings from NIA investigations.

Investigating agencies had found out in 2013 that at least 10 people who had strong links with the Sangh Parivar were involved in various terror activities in different parts of the country. At that time, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat accused the Congress of conspiring to tag his outfit as a terror organisation. Hindutva cohort Sri Sri Ravi Shankar also took exception to the use of the term saffron terror.

Though the RSS takes strong objection to the use of the term saffron terror, it does not find anything wrong with the term Islamic terror. In 2001, Modi in a TV debate had branded the Twin Tower attacks in New York as an act of Islamic terror.

Last year, Home Minister Rajnath Singh accused the Congress of inventing Hindu terror to appease Muslims. Are Hindus incapable of taking up terror as a tactic to win in a conflict?

Sri Lanka’s Tamil Tigers were among the most dangerous and deadly terrorists the world has ever produced, and they were also Hindus. In 1984, many years before Al Qaeda’s anthrax attacks, the United States was subjected to bio-terrorism by the followers of Rajneesh, a Hindu self-styled godman. So, the argument that Hindus are incapable of committing terror acts does not hold.

Of course, like any other religion, the Hindu religion does not promote terrorism. But when a religion is interpreted as being exclusive in character and shows its predatory nature, its evil side sets in. Each and every religion in the world has been distorted to justify war and violence at some point or another, and the Hindu religion is no different. Hindutva groups under the Modi government’s patronage have now pushed Hinduism to that precipice.

Immediately after Independence, the RSS castigated the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi, for being soft on Muslims. This led to Bapu’s killing. The Mahatma’s assassin Nathuram Godse was a Hindu, and a former RSS member.

In a taped interview to the Caravan magazine, which he has denied later, Swami Aseemanand said that a series of deadly blasts between 2006 and 2008 were sanctioned by the RSS.

The arrival of Modi as Prime Minister in Delhi has strengthened the resolve of Hindutva groups. In Uttar Pradesh, a 15,000-strong Dharma Sena of Hindu youths armed with swords and guns has been created to press for a Hindu state. Several training camps have come up, particularly in western and northern parts of the country to train Hindu youths in military-style combat in order to promote Hindu supremacy. Nisha Pahuja’s documentary The World Before Her shows that a large number of Hindu women are being trained in these camps too.

The Pakistan Army’s patronisation of Islamic terror groups for a strategic advantage against India has swiftly boomeranged. The Modi government is making the same mistake by shielding Hindu jihadis. No doubt, these “snakes in our backyard” will soon pose a bigger threat to India’s peace and security.

Bajrang Dal men get arms training 'to save Hindus'

Right-wing outfit Bajrang Dal has started training its cadre in Uttar Pradesh in using rifles, swords and laathis so that they can 'protect Hindus from non-brothers'.

A camp was recently organised in Ayodhya. Similar camps would be held till June 5 in Sultanpur, Gorakhpur, Pilibhit, Noida and Fatehpur. Bajrang Dal is the youth wing of Vishva Hindu Parishad, and has faced allegations of rioting and violence against religious minorities.

"The outfit has also been running vigilante cow-protection programmes.

The investigation also reveals that a person named Shetty Phitewala, a resident of Samata Nagar and an active member of a communal party, trains youth in the use of weapons and shows them communally provocative films and CDs (The Milli Gazette, May 16-31, 2008).

April 17, 2008: The Malegaon police raid a pathological laboratory situated in the basement of a private hospital and recover five live RDX explosives, three used RDX explosives, one pistol, a laptop, a scanner, two mobile phones, four fake currency notes and some money. They arrest three persons, Nitish Ashire, Sahebrao Dhurve and Jitendra Khema, all belonging to an unknown organisation (The Milli Gazette, May 1-15, 2008).

July-August 2008: Pramod Mutalik of the Rashtriya Hindu Sena (RHS), an offshoot of the RSS, forms an anti-terrorist squad, Rashtra Raksha Sena, in Karnataka, consisting of 700 persons from all over the state and 150 persons from Bangalore alone. Mutalik claims he has set up the team to weed out terrorism from the state (Pune Mirror, August 23, 2008).

October 2, 2008: In Talegaon Dabhade, Pune district, the VHP and Bajrang Dal organise a "Durga Mata Daud" (rally) during the 10-day Dussehra festival. Youngsters carrying swords, lathis and flags participate (Lokmat, Pune, October 4, 2008).

Several such rallies were also organised elsewhere in Maharashtra, in which swords, torches, trishuls and lathis were carried and provocative slogans against Muslims were shouted. The largest such rally was held in Sangli where about 5,000 people participated.

November 9, 2008: The police recover seven live crude bombs from Manjargaon village in Badlapur taluka in Maharashtra’s Jalna district. One person is arrested (The Indian Express, Pune, November 11, 2008).

November 10, 2008: In Kerala’s Kannur district, two RSS activists are killed in a blast that occurred while they were assembling a bomb. The following day the police recover 18 crude bombs from the house of BJP leader, Prakashan, not far from the spot where the two persons were killed (The Indian Express, Pune, November 11, 2008 and The Times of India, November 13, 2008).

November 11, 2008: ULFA chairman, Arbinda Rajkhowa alleges that the RSS was behind the deadly blasts in Assam on October 30 as well as the ethnic violence in the Bodoland Territorial Areas Districts (BTAD) which claimed 140 lives (85 in the blasts and 55 in ethnic violence). He claims that ULFA has enough evidence to prove the RSS’s involvement in the blasts. A few months earlier, in its mouthpiece, Freedom, ULFA had also referred to secret directives allegedly sent by the RSS to carry out blasts in different parts of the country (DNA online, November 11, 2008).

Sangh’s Sinister Drive to Militarise ‘Hindu’ Society ahead of 2017 UP Polls

In what appears to be a clear-cut exercise to create an atmosphere of confrontation and intimidation the RSS offshoot, the Bajrang Dal has stated training its cadres in the use of rifles, swords and lathis ostensibly to ‘'protect Hindus from non-brothers' A camp was recently organised in Ayodhya. Similar camps would be held till June 5 in Sultanpur, Gorakhpur, Pilibhit, Noida and Fatehpur. Bajrang Dal is the youth wing of Vishva Hindu Parishad, an off shoot of the RSS and has faced allegations of rioting and violence against the minorities.

This video, frightening in its depiction, shows the efforts that continue unchecked in Uttar Pradesh (UP). UP is set for state elections early next year and this is a time tested technique of the RSS-led Bharatiya Janata Party to sharply polarise the state polity on communal lines. This is a 10 minute long video by India TV (below)

Efforts of the sangh parivar with the unabashed and unashamed espousal of the anti-constitutional vision of a Hindu Rashtra are backed by violent and intimidatory training of cadres, historically. In the period that preceded the genocidal pogrom in Gujarat, between years 2000-2002, while the NDA I government was in power a series of similar efforts to arm youth from the Hindu community with a perceived sense of ‘threat; from the ‘outsider’ were afoot. These had been consistently monitored by us in Communalism Combat (CC) and nationwide campaigns launched to the authorities to put a stop to this. Sabrangindia appeals to its wide readership to write to the authorities in Uttar Pradesh and nationally to put a stop to these brazen efforts at furthering the divide between communities.

A sinister re-run of this hate-filled violent campaign seems to be afoot in Uttar Pradesh right now. After the state elections in Assam it appears clear that a sharply aggressive and majoritarian agenda is what the Sangh-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will resort to ahead of the state elections next year and right until 2019. The challenges to every right thinking citizen, committed to the rule of law and peace and harmony between citizens are great. Will Indians rise to the occasion and take on, up front this politics of division and hatred?
