JanabTaher Fakhruddin's "The Guiding Principles"

The one and only free public forum for Bohras. The focus of this forum is the reform movement, the Dawoodi Bohra faith and, of course, the corrupt priesthood. But the discussion is in no way restricted to the Bohras alone.

JanabTaher Fakhruddin's "The Guiding Principles"
The community is fractured. Bohras are frustrated. The future is unpredictable. There is nothing to hold them together.
One who is at the helm of their affairs is incompetent and insane.
His opponent has gone away. The successor of his opponent is trying hard by his s0-called progressive thoughts to lure the masses towards him. But he is a chip of old block, a product of the same exploitative system that treated the Bohras as slaves and cattle for more than a century; While the beneficiaries of the system enjoyed an omnipoteious lifestyle on their slavery. Late Khuzaima Qutbuddin and his well educated sons and daughters were living on the wealth and free services of Bohras.
Obliviously the recent "The Guiding Principles and Irshadat" issued by Mr. Taher Khakhruddin would be looked with suspicion by the wishers of the radical change in long suffering community. We must give credit to Janab Taher Fakhruddin for his sympathy for poor and underprivileged Bohras, under compulsion or otherwise. But in totality his attitude sounds authoritarian. He is an educated person but he could not translate word "Irshadat". This practice of use of high sounding Arabic and Persian words to impress readers was started by Syedna Taher Saifuddin, like "misal sharif", Tallaqi, Tasees, Tashreef-aawari, ikram, qadambosi, sadat-ekaram, drees, vajebat, navazishat, mansuiyat, hadiyat, sharaf, gurfa, mavaid etc.
Janab Fakhruddin who has since his birth learn to live a comfortable life on common Bohras’ money, should have first talk of abandoning that source of income and should have refused to extort any more money from Bohras. With education and circumstances there is a change in his thinking but not in his authoritarian attitute and arrogance.
1) Authoritarian Attitute: The beginning of this vision itself is repulsive as he claims to be "a Dai with FULL AUTHORITY". Who gave him this authority? Where is the humility of Ahle-bayet and of earlier Dais prior to Syedna Taher Saifuddin (STS) in this statement? If it is a curt translation of word “Dai-ul-Mutlaq” then also it should be known to him that after a controversy in 1840, 47th. 48th. 49th. And 50th. Dais did not use this word for themselves. They were simply called as Syedna. It was Syedna Taher Saifuddin who assumed this title in order to exercise his authority over the community.
2. Misaq: Again he talks of “Misaq” for Dai and that too for attaining nijaat and salvation.
From 1st Dai, Syedna Zoeb till the time of 50th Dai Syedna Abdulla Badruddin Saheb, Misaq was just a custom of Bohra community, and that too Misaq was for Imamuz-Zaman only, not for Dai. In fact our 3rd Dai, Syedna Hatim had warned that “A Dai should not attribute a single word of Misaq towards himself.”
If he really wants to free the community from exploitation and tyrrany, he should know that the Misaq to Dai is the main instrument of persecution which associated with Raza leads to all kind of clergy’s inhuman behaviour.
3. Vajebat: He cleverly starts from Zakat which is obligatory according to Islam. But then he swiftly switches to Wajebat. But he should know Vajebat is not in Islam. The word Vajebat was coined by Yusuf Najmuddin during wealth-hungry STS’s time. Prior to STS for 800 years Dai’s never indulged in social matters, especially money matters of the community. These affairs including Nikah, Burial, observation of Ramazan and Muharrum, running of Madressas, construction and maintenance of Masjida and mazars and Musaffarkhanas were managed by the local jamats without interference of Dai. There is not a single community property which STS and Burhanuddin Saheb had built from their collection of money.
The father of STS and 49th. Dai was poor and indebted, but Syedna Taher Saifuddin became Multi-millionaire within a short time without doing any bussiness except commercialising religion. What was the magic?. Can he explain?
Since Taher Kakhruddin is not in power today he mildly but definitely talk about Silat, Najwa, Nazarul Mukam and Kaffarat amounts to be presented (Araz) to Dai. All these four items are not in Quran or Islam. They exist only in Bohra Community. Silat Sila-al-Imam is not a part of Islamic Shari'ah but it is a much later invention and found only in Dawoodi Bohra faith. There is no mention of sila in Daim al-Islam. The Bohra priestly class collects sila as compulsory tax under the pretext that it is an offering for the hidden Imam. But the hidden Imam according Syedna Taher Saifuddin is imaginary. So the Sila-al-Imam collection goes nowhere but in Dai's coffer. So it is not at all obligatory to pay any amount towards Sila to Dai. More over they were individual matters of Bohras and they were free to make offering and distribute among poor and needy at their own will.
4. Local Jamats: He does not talk much about Jamats functioning as they are not in his control. But he should know that local Jamats everywhere prior to Syedna Taher Saifuddin were totally independent for their functioning. Hence setting up of a "Central Commission" and holding it "accountable to Dai's administration" is a direct interference in functioning of Jamats.
5. Raza: He insists on Raza for darees, majlis, vajebat and similar issues. He should know that system of seeking Raza for each and every aspect of Bohra life was made compulsory by STS, to reduce the Bohras to his slaves.
Conclusion: It can be said in conclusion that Janab Taher Fakhruddin nor has forgotten his comfortable days in Saifee Mahal nor there is any change in his authoritarian ways. Thinking of progressive policies is one thing and living and implementing them is quite another.
