Zakir Naik, a gentle, rockstar televangelist, is dangerous as young Muslims may be swayed by his fundamentalist interpretations of Islam and justify victimhood and extremism

He objected, on camera, to being described as a maulvi or a maulana. To be described as a rockstar of tele-evangelism, he not only didn't mind, but accepted most gleefully.

His view on Partition, by the way, was no different from that of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh: a tragedy for the subcontinent

He would freely condemn 26/11 and even 9/11 as far as 'the person who has destroyed the twin tower is 100 per cent wrong. He cannot be a practising Muslim, he has to be condemned (but not sure if it's Osama bin Laden)

His Osama kind of equivocation underlines what is wrong and dangerous with him.

Besides the ancient stupidities he repeatedly supports, like the 'Islamic' way of punishing your wife, with 'light beatings as if with a toothbrush' or ruling that Muslim tombs are un-Islamic, his modern facade, quote-a-verse-every-three-sentences rhetoric represents a deep, conservative, scriptural view of Islam.

And while his method looks non-threatening and amiable, he is dangerous in how he can play with genuinely inquisitive, innocent minds.

I do not believe he would ever advocate violence against other people or the State, and definitely he will oppose Islamic State as a 'conspiracy against Islam,' but an innocent, young Muslim mind could easily extrapolate his fundamentalist interpretations of Islam to justify the more extreme alternatives and method

Their minds are overwhelmed with propaganda and Naik's kind of convincing story of Muslim victimhood.

If this is how complex it is in India, you can imagine the situation in Pakistan and Bangladesh, and this assault on the minds of nearly 500 million, or indeed about 40 per cent of the world's Muslims.

More than a third of Nice victims were Muslim

Paris, July 20 (IANS) At least 30 of the 84 victims killed in the attack last Thursday in Nice were Muslim, the French Catholic daily La Croix said on Tuesday.

The newspaper added that 20 of those killed were of Tunisian nationality, the same as the truck driver Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, who carried out the attack during the Bastille Day celebrations, Efe news reported.

Speaking to the newspaper, the imam of the city and president of the Union of Muslims of the Alpes-Maritimes, Otmane Aissaoui, confirmed the death toll belonging to the Muslim community.

One of the victims Bouhlel left behind was Fatima Charrihi, a Moroccan of 62 and mother of 7 children, who was a frequent worshipper at the Rahma Mosque in Nice, where Aissaoui is a preacher.

Among the Muslim victims were children, such as Mehdi, 12, whose twin sister is still in a coma, or Kylian, 4, who came from Lyon with her mother Olfa to attend the fireworks show, both deceased.

Faced with possible reactions of hatred in neighbourhoods and schools, Aissaoui said that to defend coexistence against isolation it must be remembered that these people died together, regardless of their religion.

Missing Kochi girl was ready to use a gun: Brother

Bestin took Ebin to Qureshi at a house in Andheri and introduced the latter as an employee of IRF. Qureshi took Ebin to the IRF library and delivered a lengthy sermon on Islam and the Quran and why Islam was superior to all other religions.
However, despite repeated attempts, Ebin refused to embrace Islam and returned to Kochi. Ebin also says in his statement that he suspects his sister to have joined IS under the influence of Bestin and Qureshi.

One Surprising Statistic Reveals an Important Truth About Terrorism in Europe

Terrorist strikes in the Western world have a special way of distorting media perception. They cause the press to obsess over optics and ignore other terrorist attacks of far greater scale. And like clockwork, they produce a backlash that suggests that radical Islamism is a uniquely dangerous ideology that has a monopoly on this heinous mode of violence.

In reality, in the last five years, less than 2% of all terrorist attacks in the European Union were "religiously motivated," according to a ThinkProgress analysis.

ThinkProgress' breakdown of numbers should be sobering for the ranks of conservatives and simplistic thinkers who are certain that the apocalypse is nigh every time they hear of a bombing carried out by a Muslim in a Western country:

In 2013, there were 152 terrorist attacks in the EU. Two of them were "religiously motivated." In 2012, there were 219 terrorist attacks in EU countries, six of them were "religiously motivated."

In 2011, not one of the 174 terrorist attacks in EU countries in 2011 were "affiliated or inspired" by terrorist organizations. 2010, 249 terrorist attacks, three of them were considered by Europol to be "Islamist." In 2009, of 294 terrorist attacks, only one was related to Islamist militancy – though Europol added the caveat, "Islamist terrorists still aim to cause mass casualties."

So what inspires most terrorist attacks? Separatism , mainly. Terrorist attacks are also consistently carried out by secular radicals on both the left and the right.

The low rate of attacks by the religiously inspired — it is unclear from the report if all of these are even carried out by people who identify as Muslim — doesn't mean that radical militant Islamism in Europe doesn't constitute a real threat. But it is one threat among many, and it's not the existential danger it's made out to be by many easily shaken xenophobes.
