iddat in bohras gross violation of human rights???

The one and only free public forum for Bohras. The focus of this forum is the reform movement, the Dawoodi Bohra faith and, of course, the corrupt priesthood. But the discussion is in no way restricted to the Bohras alone.

Actually , neither the Quran nor the prophet (saw) have given the reason for iddat. The pregnancy thing is one of the reasons that we have come up with long after the passing of the prophet. Before, no one questioned the custom of iddat because it was not based on hindu traditions as it is amongst the bohras and doesnt require for the women to be under house arrest during this period.

I can predict the position of any customs by any Tom, Dick and Harry bhaisab including KQ: staunchly against as it loosens their grip on people.
The way to change this custom requires refusl by widows. Do not expect Ausralia to hel you.

yes, there are many a women who go through iddat but then there are some really smart ones who play the diplomacy game and state to the amil that my late husband did not want me to go through iddat ,so i am respecting his last wish and then there are others who have gone through iddat two and three times sitting in a room for almost a year because a man servant came in the room to give her food and he did not know so iddat was broken or by accident she saw another stranger in the room and the iddat was broken so she started all over again and of course all this ridiculous custom goes on with the raza of local amil. The abdes and amtes are brainwashed to the extent that even to do a good deed they need raza. such is the pathetic state of this bohra community.

AFTER FGM, NOW IDDAT !!

Iddat in Bohras a gross violation of human rights ??

Tragic news from Surat, India :

An elderly lady died today due to the barbaric Iddat practice.... She had 2 days remaining in Iddat and she got a heart attack.... Family was searching for lady doctors but couldn't find one.... The stubborn family refused to shift the patient to hospital,,,, How many women will be killed or murdered by this barbaric practice ?

Its now high time to start a petition on change.org to stop this barbaric practice. This will create awareness in the world about this Bohras cruel practice !

Attention: Kothar and Bohra community

A close friend of mine's father passed away couple of days ago. Her mother is 85 years old and she also has health problems and the family usually consult the doctor due to her health problems and doctor also visits their home. Now the aamil of the city asking her to go for Iddat for 4 months as per "so -called" religious rules and during this period she cannot talk to anyone outsider not even her daughter on the phone. Her daughter lives abroad and she called her family and ask them to talk to her mother and family refused to let her speak to her mother and said if the aamil comes to know we will be in trouble. What kind of non sense is this, is this a religious practice or a cult's rule.

Where is this written in Quraan shareef that women has to suffer even she is 85 years old. This is a barbaric practice made against women made by men for their own benefits. This should be justified and explained religiously and needs to be abolished from the system as soon as possible as it is against human rights.

This needs to be addressed at the earliest possible otherwise world media would be contacted and their attention will be drawn towards this practice like FGM. Of course we have to draw the attention of media that this practice is followed by Kothar and Aamils. World's Ulmas should discuss on this issue, this practice is a form of Hindu's custom, the marwadi sect of Hindus follow this kind of practice for widows.

I would like to have a justified answer as soon as possible as my friend has already lost her father and won't be able to speak to her mother for 4 months, this is absurd.

My advise, the Iddat is imposed on grown up women.

First find out not performing Iddat causes excommunication or prevents a woman remarrying. There will be social pressure, families disowning etc.

There is limited scope of determining discrimination is a crime.

If so find that evidence and publish it. The world will not be surprised of another cruelty of the priests.

Be prepared for DB women for religious freedom propaganda.

Let them that is DBWRF know it's not about their freedom, they can jump in a well if they want to but Wallahi dont impose your extremism on the rest. Their freedom is not above mine or others.

On the basis of Quran and hadiths the scholars have defined the rules governing widows and described how the widows mourning should affect her life. These rules may be summed up as follows:

It is forbidden for the recently-widowed woman to use perfume, whether on her body or on her clothes
It is forbidden for the recently-widowed woman to adorn herself with things like henna or facial make-up, or to use kohl unnecessarily, or to use anything else that may make her beautiful and attractive to others.
It is forbidden for the recently-widowed woman to wear attractive clothes, such as clothes dyed with safflower or saffron, or other types of red dyes and colours that are used for adornment.
It is forbidden for the recently-widowed woman to wear jewellery.
It is forbidden for the recently-widowed woman to spend the night outside her own home, meaning the home of her deceased husband, except for some Islamically legitimate reason, such as her being afraid for her own safety, or being evicted by the landlord of rented premises, etc. If a recently-widowed woman needs to go out for medical treatment, to attend legal proceedings in court, to take exams in school, or to go shopping when she has no-one who can do this for her, then she should do these things during the day, so long as she comes back home to her husbands house before maghrib (sunset).
She is forbidden to marry or draw up a marriage contract; even engagement is forbidden, unless it is merely hinted at and not stated clearly.
From the above, it is clear that Islam gives the husband immense rights. The wife should give up wearing adornments and perfume, and should stay in her husbands home during this period because of those rights. These rules also pay attention to her psychological state at this time when she has lost her support. Even though these rules are so clear, many people have still fallen prey to many different kinds of bidah when it comes to mourning, so they forbid a woman to do things that are not forbidden in Islam, and they fabricate lies and introduce bidah into the religion of Allaah. Shaykh Abd al-Azeez ibn Baaz said:

Some people may think and imagine that a recently widowed woman should not speak to anyone, or speak to anyone on the telephone, or have a bath more than once a week, or walk barefoot in her house, or go outside in the moonlight, or other such nonsense which has no basis. But in fact she is allowed to walk barefoot or with shoes in her house, to do whatever she needs to in her house, to cook food for herself and her guests, to walk in the moonlight on the roof or in the garden of her house, to take a bath whenever she wants, to speak to whomever she wants so long as it is decent talk, to shake hands with other women and with her mahram relatives (close relatives such as father, brother, etc.) but not with non-mahrams, and to remove her headcovering so long as there are no non-mahrams present. She should not use henna, saffron or perfume, and she is not allowed to get engaged a hint is permissible but not a clear statement. And Allaah is the source of strength.

(Fataawaa Islamiyah, 3/316)

Shaykh Abd-Allaah ibn Jibreen said: Wearing black to mourn the deceased is a form of bidah, and the wives of the deceased only need to avoid fancy clothes, adornment, jewellery, makeup and perfume during the mourning period. Neglecting regular work during the mourning period is also a form of bidah. The recently widowed woman should still take care of cooking, cleaning, washing dishes, laundry, etc., and there is no sin invloved in doing so.

We need evidence where a woman who refused to perform iddat was excommunicated and denied right to remarry within the community.

And if the incident was in USA Canada Europe the better. But whatever we can get.

Can the lady apply for Police report?

The problem is people follow the diktat of the Kothari Mafia,
In USA, there was a lady who was asked to do Iddat, she responded that she is the only source of income for her young children so an exception was made and they told to collect enough vacation time to perform Iddat, she sat in Iddat 2 years after her husband's death to please the local Aaamil. Best part is she was separated from her husband at the time of his death
So in Bohras Iddat is a joke for community and for Kothari Goons and their Aaamils, it is a way to show who has the power.
