The Gujrat Earthquake and the Progressives Challenge!!

We the Progressives should look at ourselves rather than cast stones at others.
Since the tragic events in Gujrat, we have NOT seen any initiatives by the Progressives - not even a token; atleast NOT on this website. On the other hand the Kotharis, whatever their motives, have taken up the challenge and gone to the affected areas to assist.
We understand that there is an International Progressives' Conference in Canada during Summer - where Progressives from all over the world are supposed to attend.
May we suggest and challenge the Progressives to cancel this Conference and rise to the ocassion and contribute all the savings towards the Gujrat Earthquake Relief Fund.
Even only 100 delegates arrive from all around the world to Canada, they will approximately spend at least US $2000 each towards their travel, accomodation, food and conference expenses. This means a total expense of US$200,000 ( approximately 10 million Rupees) towards nothing but progressive persuits - some may call it intellectual masturbation or intercourse of ideas!!!
These moneys (10 million Rupees) can instead be generously and wisely spent towards the worthwhile cause of the affected earthquakes victims - for food, water, medicine, clothing and other immediate needs - non other than for our ancestoral brothers and sisters.
Please put your money where your mouth is
and show the Kotharis what "right stuff" we are made up of!!
We will contribute our moneys to International Red Cross and Oxfam.
Sorry if the truth hurts!!
Wassalaam

Your concern for the earthquate victims is shared by all sensibile people. But how can you say that the Progressives have done nothing. The Udaipur jamaat has sent volunteers and truckloads of relief supplies to Bhuj. And other progressive individuals have contributed too without feeling the need to make too much noise about it. The progressives are doing what is within their means - and their means are really limited. There's little point in comparing these efforts with that of the Kothar's which is, as a rule, dirven by self-publicity and self-promotion.
Your suggestion to cancel the conference is a noble one. Only that it's dripping with self-righteousness. We all need to respond to natural calamities with compassion and concern but please let's not get carried away and lose all sense of priority and proportion.

This is indeed a tragedy of epic proportion. To use this tragedy for anyone's gain is the biggest crime. It is good to note that both the sides, Progressives and Kothars, are helping in this extremely difficult time in Bhuj.
On the point of donating $200,00.00 to this cause, if I may suggest, how about a few million be donated by the Kothars from the annual takings under the guise of Wajibaat, Sabil and Silo Fitr!!! Not to mention the various plane trips, and the extravagant life style being led by the Kothars!!!
Any help, in any form, should be given to the victims of the Earth Quake, immaterial of their caste, creed or religion. This is humanity that has sufferred, not any Kothari Bohras or Progressives.
I sincerely hope that we have the heart to help the victims without even asking them about their faith and or allegiance, for once!!!
