Re: Palestinians blow up Israelis, Israelis exterminate Pale
The Israeli right's vision of Greater Israel is dead - they'll never have it and some of them know it.
It is undoubtedly true that Israel has abused the Palestinians for decades, but that does not in any way excuse the reciprocal attacks against Israeli civilians that Palestinian suicide bombers conduct. Islam does not permit the targetting of civilians in war, and Muslims should stop trying to justify it.
"If thou dost stretch thy hand against me, to slay me, it is not for me to stretch my hand against thee to slay thee: for I do fear God, the Cherisher of the Worlds."
-- 5:28
It is not permissible to react to sin by committing more sin - Islam has guidlines for war. It is a wonder that these "holy warriors" are comfortable defending a faith whose tenets they do not respect.

Re: Palestinians blow up Israelis, Israelis exterminate Pale
khairan,
you are right, civilians should not be targeted. I am just thinking about the person who goes and blows himself up. What is he thinking? Is he a fool who cannot think for himself, or has he lost hope to such a degree that blowing himself up is the only alternative he thinks remains for him?
How many suicide bombings have you heard of in the last 6 months? How many palestinians deaths have you heard of in the last 6 months? how many palestinian homes have you heard destroyed in the last 6 months?
Please do not talk like Ariel Sharon.

Re: Palestinians blow up Israelis, Israelis exterminate Pale
anajmi,
My point is that as long as Muslims are caught up in a tit-for-tat with Israel and the West, we really have no moral highground from which we can criticize anyone else. Muslim conservatives love to point to the ahadith and the Qur'an and to pull examples from our early history to show how Muslims should go to war and slay the infidels and blah blah blah blah.
Meanwhile, we ignore the other lessons - the diplomacy that the Prophet so adeptly used and without which battles such as the al-Khandaq could not have been won. We ignore the fact that (as Haykal reports in his biography) the Prophet spared a Jewish servant girl for trying to poison him, because he felt her desire for revenge was justified. In short, Muslims fight the West and the Zionists in the name of something they call Islam, but either blind themselves to the realities of what they are doing or follow leaders who are not concerned with Islam at all, except as a political lever to goad the masses with.
The Prophet spared all of his enemies when he took Mecca, because he understood that blood only begets more blood. We don't have to lay down and let the rest of the world abuse us, but I refuse to accept that simply laying claim to "Islam" puts our community above moral reproach. In this sense, I feel we are just as bad as the Americans -- we are quick to criticize the other and find fault in their actions, but slow to condemn our own when they become immoral.

khairan,
I am amazed reading your email. Do you even know what is going on in Palestine right now or for the last 3 years or for the last 50 years?
Do you want the muslims to be always ready to bend and spread and never fight back?
The prophet spared all his enemies when he was in charge of Mecca, but in order to do that he had to be in charge of Mecca. Before the creation of Israel, the jews were living peacefully in Palestine, till they decided to steal what belonged to the muslims. The day muslims are in charge of the whole of Palestine, I am sure the Jews will be living in much better condition than they are right now.
You may feel that you are as bad as Americans, I do not, and I don't think most muslims do, which is a comforting feeling.

Re: Palestinians blow up Israelis, Israelis exterminate Pale
anajmi,
I know very well what is going on in Palestine right now, and you're right -- it is precisely what has been going on for the past half-century. I'm not going to bother trying to make excuses for the Americans and their horrible foreign policy, I think we're in agreement at least on that fact that the Americans have not dealt evenly with the Middle East.
However, even if you totally reject the moral point that I am making, there is undeniable truth to my political point. The tit-for-tat cycle that Palestinians and Israelis are caught in right now is endless. There will always be another dead Palestinian boy who the Arabs will want to avenge, and more dead Israeli civilians who will cause Israel to send in more soldiers to kill more Palestinians. Even if you are right, and Muslims have the moral highground in this conflict (I disagree completely), the tactics they are using offer no end and no solution.
I gave the Prophet's example not simply because he spared his enemies, but because he was a cunning and able politician and diplomat. The Palestinians can't win using their current tactics. They don't have the guns and they don't have the manpower. If for no other reason than that, they need to tone down the attacks. Europe is overwhelmingly opposed to Israel, to the point where the American right and the Israelis routinely accuse the Europeans of anti-semitism. I think the Palestinians need to explore more diplomatic options and try to bring international pressure to bear on Israel, and to this end the suicide bombings work against them.
If you think that the campaign against Israel has made any positive difference whatsoever for the Palestinians, then present your evidence. Personally, I think that it has only accomplished the grotesque killing of innocent people on both sides of the border.

khairan,
You keep talking about the tit for tat killing cycle when in my first reply to you I asked you
"How many suicide bombings have you heard of in the last 6 months? How many palestinians deaths have you heard of in the last 6 months? how many palestinian homes have you heard destroyed in the last 6 months?"
The campaign against Israel according to you has made no positive difference and then according to you ""Europe is overwhelmingly opposed to Israel, to the point where the American right and the Israelis routinely accuse the Europeans of anti-semitism.""
Do you know that Israel offered 98% of the land back to the Palestinians during the time of Bill Clinton and Arafat refused? Do you know what the 2% was that Israel wanted to keep?

Just as a side note, you might want to consider the fact that suicide bombings happen when tactically, Israel needs them most and stands to benefit from them most!!

Did you also read my very first post on this topic? You should if you haven't and you should read it again if you have.
Military Intelligence presented erroneous assumption on Palestinians

A very round-about way of saying "Lied". "" - wrh

"I will not have a moth-eaten Palestine" was, I believe, Arafat's response. I have mixed feelings about the Palestinian refusal, but ultimately I think it was an appropriate decision.Originally posted by anajmi:
Do you know that Israel offered 98% of the land back to the Palestinians during the time of Bill Clinton and Arafat refused? Do you know what the 2% was that Israel wanted to keep?
I agree with you that Israel's response to the suicide bombings is egregious: the Palestinians bomb a pizza shop and Israel razes a neighborhood to the ground in revenge. And then the Palestinians respond, and then Israel responds, and when all is said and done far more Palestinians are dead than Israelis. But this is all besides the point: this war has accomplished nothing for either side. In the end, both peoples have committed atrocities. We can quibble about who is worse, but that too brings no one closer to a solution.
Personally, I think the Palestinians are being exploited for political purposes. As long as Palestine remains an issue, it can be used to fuel the fires of anti-Semitism and Israel-hating. Arafat's wife in Paris was getting something like 1 million euros per month as an "allowance" from some undisclosed source. The latest intifada is what catapulted Sharon and the Likud party to the forefront of Israeli government, and Likud is the least likely to work favourably with Palestine. Meanwhile, the Palestinians themselves are left out in the cold. So again, I ask you - what have the suicide bombings against Israeli civilians accomplished? Why am I, as a Muslim, somehow honour-bound not to criticize them when they are both immoral and politically futile?
I suppose my position may make more sense to you if you understand that I think war is *always* the worst solution. In this case, it is no solution at all -- it exists simply to play out and perpetuate old hatreds.

Re: Palestinians blow up Israelis, Israelis exterminate Pale
Dear borther khairan,
I am not condoning suicide bombings. I am sure if we had tanks and aircraft bombers, we would've used them instead of suicide bombers.
And as is evident from a lot of quotes from Israeli leaders, Israel does not want peace. They want all of Palestine without the Palestinians. Now whether you believe that or not is upto you. So what are the Palestinians going to do about it?

Re: Palestinians blow up Israelis, Israelis exterminate Pale
According to a hadith (I do not remember which), the conflict between Israel and Palestine will go on till the day of judgment (or was it the coming of christ.. I am not sure). So all we gotta do now is choose a side.
Re: Palestinians blow up Israelis, Israelis exterminate Pale
Well, I think the suicide bombings have accoplished one thing, they have brought the palestinian struggle to the world's attention even if it is in a negative way. If that hadn't been the case, the Israelis would have exterminated all the Palestinians without anyone even knowing about it.
Re: Palestinians blow up Israelis, Israelis exterminate Pale
And the 2% land that Israel wanted to keep was bang in the center of Palestine, dividing palestine up into small pieces. So if I wanted to visit my neigbour (both in Palestine) I would've had to go through an Israeli checkpost.
Yeah, Israel wants peace allright!!

And I am not saying that you are honor-bound not to say anything against the suicide bombings. I am just saying that you are wrong in blaming the palestinians for the problem, which is what I think you are doing.

Re: Palestinians blow up Israelis, Israelis exterminate Pale
If that's what you think you've totally misunderstood me. I think the Palestinians are contributing to the problem certainly. But I don't blame the Palestinian people, I blame their leaders and I blame the other leaders of the Arab world. For all of its posturing about the evils of the Israeli occupation, the Arabs have done little, I think, to help the Palestinians accomplish their goals. Neither has anyone else.Originally posted by anajmi:

khairan,
I certainly believe the leaders of the muslims Ummah are corrupt impotent fools ruled by the Americans and hence are being humiliated every day. So it is better if the Americans get rid of the leaders, however the Americans will put more obedient puppets in office. So what do we do? What is happening in Iraq and Palestine is pretty good. Great powers like America and Israel now stand naked and exposed in front of the world.
You may believe that what Israel is doing in only in retaliation of suicide bombings and what America did was to make the world a better place, but my opinions are well known.

Israeli planes violate Lebanese air space
"Israeli planes violated Lebanese air space and a warship entered Lebanon's territorial water off the border port of Naqoura Saturday, Lebanese officials said.
Provoke, provoke, provoke, "THEY ARE ATTACKING US!!!!!!!!"" - wrh
This is the was Israel has been operating since its unfortunate creation. The motto of the Mossad is "By Deception thou shalt do war" - Check it out.

Anajmi and Average Bohra,
My motto is - Live and Let Live
Is there any way three religions and three people and live side by side.... there is beauty in diversity too ...!!! why do we have to ensure that everybody believes in what we believe, why cannot we accept as people are and leave the faith to them. We all, Christians, Jews and Muslims have to learn and be tolerant.
Saddam may have been hero in some ways but he was despot and tyrant in many ways. May be he was good for one sect and so was hero for them, for others he was a murderer - we cannot generalize. Hitler was hero to many and may be he even is.
The worst thing about Muslims is that we are hypocrate and we have corrupt rulers .... and if they are place by USA, why cannot Muslims stand up.... the weakness lies within. It is no good blaming Bush and Sharon, they are heros to their people (or not, who cares) but we have find our own heros, we have to wake up and defend our own selves.
Islam is the best religion on earth and Muslims are the worst nation on earth....!!!!!!

Talking to your self again ? Let me give you a hint.... quoting from Al Jazeera (
) does not help your lack of intellect or credibility ...much . As far as the oil, I pay decent money for gas, but you are probably on welfare and get it for free and thinks the US doesn't pay for it. Just more Islamic brainwashing...if we wanted to control the oil supply and get it for free then we would have nuked their ass and taken their gas, get my point ? {probably not }
For those on the board that are interested in facts:
1. The US imports the most oil from Canada rather than Saudi Arabia {but we don't mess with Canada}
2. The US imports more oil from Mexico than we do from Saudi Arabia {instead of attacking them we allow Mexico to send their population here illegally and then pay our tax dollars to support them)
3. We buy more oil from Venezuela than we do from Saudi Arabia. {we go their on vacation, but don't bomb them}
4. We buy only 20% of our oil from the entire Persian Gulf combined and we have our way with them ! {because they are EZ pickin's due to Islamic Law and lack of democracy, which is not the fault of the US)
5. We buy less than 1/2 of our oil from Iraq than we do from Mexico and we decide to spend 100's billion to free them, kill 1000 of our troops, spend billions rebuilding it because we want to own their oil fields ?
Inquiring minds want to know....obviously not the masses....
