Welcome to the new forum

The one and only free public forum for Bohras. The focus of this forum is the reform movement, the Dawoodi Bohra faith and, of course, the corrupt priesthood. But the discussion is in no way restricted to the Bohras alone.

Welcome to the new forum

Our apologies for closing the Forum over the weekend. Now you know why it was closed. We are very pleased to bring you a brand new forum with greatly enhanced user experience. The new system has a lot of new features and functionality which you will find useful.

Luckily we were able to import all the topics, posts and members from the old forum, so nothing has been lost. For the most part the transition will be seemless. However, there are a few things which got messed up in conversion.

Bugs
User names
In the old forum had two fields form name: username and displayed name. Most memebers had the same name for both. But for those few who did not, the new system did not recognize the "displayed name" and deleted it and retained the login name. If you can't login with your usual username, try using your "diplayed name". For example, Gulf must now use "Gulf" to login instead of "gulfconsult". We changed some of the names so they appear as they should. Let us know if your name on the board is different from what you intend it to be, we'll change it for you.

Some names changed to "Guest"
This seems to have happened with members who have been inactive for a long time. We're not sure what may have caused it. We will look into and see if original names can be retrieved.

Private messages
We're unable to import private messages from the old fourm. But for those who want them badly, do let us know and we'll try to get them for you.

Bookmarks
We'll try to ensue that bookmarks from old topic and threads are re-directed to the new forum index page. They will no longer go to specific topic or post.

View column
The new fourm has a new "number of views" column for each topic. This is obviously set to 0 because we did not have this feature before.

Report bugs
Let us know if you have find any bugs or other issues with the new forum.

New features
There are a host of new features. Please look around and explore what new things you can do. We can introduce more features and user controls if there's enough demand for them.

User control panel
Please make sure to click on the "user control panel" on top left hand corner of the page. There you can set your preferences - especially the time zone that you want displayed. You may also want to update your profile and other details.

Post editing
Now you can edit your post, but only within 15 minutes of submitting it. So make sure review your posts after sumbitting them.

Lastly, we want to thank you all for your continued support and interest in this website and forum. Hope you enjoy the new experience.

Sorry, Gulf if we compromised your identity in any way. First of all there were not many examples to illustrate our point, yours was handy. And second, in all innocence we thought we were not revealing much between "gulf" and "gulfconsult". Our apologies.

I don't see anything great or unique about the look of this FORUM.

It is a Forum provided by PHBB, so it requires no coding or anything.

You've not seen the previous forum so you really don't know.

Improvisator,

It's not the "look" which is such a big deal. The challenge for us was to convert a 10-year-old flat file based system to a new php based database driven system without losing the content, membership details and post histories. We are really excited that we were able to achieve this.
