Bollywood superstar Dilip Kumar turns 89

Age and experience have not robbed him of the pleasure of fresh glory and even as the first superstar of Bollywood Dilip Kumar turns 89 today.

Dilip Kumar was born Muhammad Yusuf Khan in Qissa Khawani Bazaar in Peshawar, Pakistan on December 11, 1922 in a Pashtun family of twelve children. His father Ghulam Sarwar was a fruit merchant and owned large orchard in Peshawar and then in Devlali in Maharashtra near Mumbai. The family relocated to Mumbai in the 1930s and early 1940s. Yusuf Khan moved to Pune and started his canteen and dry fruits business.

There he was spotted by a leading actress of those years, Devika Rani, who was also the wife of the founder of Bombay Talkies Himanshu Rai and helped his entry into Bollywood. She wanted his name changed and couldn’t decide between Dilip Kumar and Vaaman Kumar. It was Jairaj, then a big star, who suggested Dilip, after his own son.

Starting his career in 1944, Kumar s career has spanned five decades and over 60 films. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest actors in the history of Hindi Cinema. Kumar was the first actor to receive a Filmfare Best Actor Award and holds the record for the most number of Filmfare Awards won for that category along with Shahrukh Khan; 8 wins. He starred in a wide variety of roles such as the romantic Andaz (1949), the swashbuckling Aan (1952), the dramatic Devdas (1955), the comical Azaad (1955), the historical Mughal-e-Azam (1960) and the social Ganga Jamuna (1961). In 1976, Kumar had a five-year break from film performances. In 1981, he returned with a character role in the film Kranti and continued his career playing central character roles in films such as Shakti (1982), Karma (1986) and Saudagar (1991). His last film was Qila in 1998. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Bhushan in 1991 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 for his contributions towards Indian cinema.

Britain's oldest woman worker is still full-time aged 94

SPRIGHTLY Ada Hostler is thought to be the oldest woman worker in the UK – still full-time aged 94.

The great-gran works 45 hours a week as an administrator at the nursery daughter Janet, 63, has run for 19 years.

Ada, who last year ignored doctors’ requests to quit after she broke her hip, has no plans to retire. And she hates the weekends because she would rather work.

She said: “I never thought I’d be working in my 90s but I never want to stop. Doing the figures helps keep my brain active and the children keep me going. I love being around them. They are great company.”

Couple Karam and Kartari Chand married for 86 years

A couple from Bradford who tied the knot in 1925 could be the UK's longest married husband and wife. Karam Chand was born in a small rural village in the Punjab in northern India in 1905. His family worked in farming and, in keeping with the custom of the time, he married at a young age. His bride Kartari was born in the same district in 1912.

According to their passports, that currently makes Mr Chand 106 and his wife 99 years old.

They wed in a typical Sikh ceremony in 1925 and have just celebrated their 86th year together as a married couple, which they think may qualify them as the UK's longest married husband and wife.

Mr Chand, who came with his family to Bradford in 1965, said there was no real secret to living a long married life. "Eat and drink what you want but in moderation. I have never held back from enjoying my life," he said.

Mr Chand smokes one cigarette a day before his evening meal and also drinks a tot of whiskey or brandy three or four times a week. His daughter-in-law Rani said it was something he looked forward to. Many Asian people in the UK live within traditional extended families and the Chands are no exception. They live with their youngest son Satpal, together with his wife and two of their four children.

"We really feel blessed that our parents are still here with us and every day is a bonus," Satpal said." I think that keeping the minds of older people active is the key to them staying alert and healthy.

"If you have been given the privilege to look after your parents you must involve them fully in family life and never get angry with them, keep them happy and they will then look forward to getting up the next morning."

Kartari Chand is looking forward to getting a letter from The Queen later this year when she celebrates her 100th birthday, but is more cautious about staying fit and healthy."We have always eaten good wholesome food, there's nothing artificial in our diet but things like ghee (clarified butter), milk and fresh yogurt are what we like.

"We know that being married for 86 years is a blessing, but equally we will be ready to go when it's time, it's all up to the will of God, but we really have lived a good life."

Mrs Chand said that she and her husband enjoyed doing many things, such as eating meals together and going to the temple. However, she said some aspects of old age were difficult. "My eldest son died and that was hard for us because you don't expect to outlive your own children. "We have seen many other close family members depart and that's something we just have to live with."

Mr Chand is now unable to walk any distance without assistance and needs a lot more care than his wife, who remains active and still has her own teeth. She said: "When you get so old your eyesight and hearing starts to get weaker and you ache more when moving about.

"But considering our age and the hard work we have undertaken during our lives, we're not doing so bad."

Satpal Chand said he was not sure if his parents were the longest married couple in the UK, but would like to think that they are.

"Breaking records is not so important to us, it's all about living together as one family and respecting each other's values."if my mother and father are record breakers then they've made us even more proud of them than we already are."

"They're such lovely people."

Iraqi woman, 111, sworn in as US citizen

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. (AP) — An Iraqi native has become a U.S. citizen at age 111.

WWJ-AM reports (http://cbsloc.al/whya5c ) that Warina Zaya Bashou took the oath of citizenship Friday at her Sterling Heights home, north of Detroit.

The radio station says Bashou was surrounded by about a dozen relatives and friends during the ceremony.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services spokeswoman Marilu Cabrera says Bashou was born in 1900 and is the second-oldest person on record to be naturalized.

Bashou credits her longevity to drinking green tea.

Bashou has been in the United States nine years. She said through an interpreter that becoming a citizen is something she wanted to do for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to remember her by.

She turns 112 in July.

Bro GM,
You can keep on posting stories of many people older than the dai, but
1, How many of these have hundreds of thousands of idiots beating their chest for them?
2. How many of these oldies have foot fetishists following them and paying millions to kiss their feet?
3. How many of these oldies have a large number of slaves, willing to do anything for their masters?
4. How many of these old people have their portraits in hundreds of thousand houses, that are bowed down before reverentially?
5. How many of these can make thousands of sub human others follow them abroad, at least once a year?
6. How many of these can twist thousands of others round their little finger and extort money by the millions under all sort of pretexts, including fantastic amounts in exchange for a word like "Sheikh".

Let us just understand the difference. You cannot compare common gentle people with the mafia.

Bro. smart,

I think I will have to quote the likes of Pharoahs and Nimroods who have supposed to have lived more then 150 years as people of that time and age lived that many years. Also there was much more footlicking, extortion and blind beliefs then what we see in the dai's case.

I got new hips and I'm up at 5am everyday: The 93-year-old yoga teacher who is more flexible than most of her students.

The energetic 93-year-old, from Westchester, who has been practicing yoga for over 70 years also does the waltz, jitterbug, samba and cha cha cha in her spare time.

'I also like to do foxtrot – all the crazy ones,' she laughs, describing dancing the tango as being like drinking champagne.

She has since been teaching yoga to students in India, France, and the USA for more than 45 years including certifying 400 other teachers.

Oldest woman in Cuba celebrates her 127th birthday

As she was born in 1885, Juana Bautista de la Candelaria Rodriguez had to spend more than half her life without electricity or running water.

In the year of her birth Cuba was still a Spanish colony, the Statue of Liberty arrived in New York harbour and the first automobile was patented.

a couple of observations...

1. not a single abde apologist has appeared on this thread and dared to make a single disparaging comment about any of the hard working and highly accomplished centenarians whose simple lives have been illustrated here...
2. inspite of all the hundreds of examples quoted here of the healthy seniors still alive and very much kicking, an abde still believes that only syedna is the recipient of a longevity miracle, the rest are mere freaks of nature...
3. whether there are thousands or lakhs of people older and healthier than syedna, there is only one with the ability to perform miracles... you guessed it - the eternal syedna...!! the rest, well, who gives a damn? see, syedna can come when someone has strong urges - like nalwala - and rescue him from awkward situations involving harassed female co-workers, he can see behind thick concrete pillars, he can rescue an abde from the 9/11 tragedy, he can cure sick and diseased bohras (only abdes), he can bring rain, he can cure constipation, he can create babies for barren amtes, he can make gullible abdes who shower money on him maalamaal, he can well do anything, except make himself healthy and has to ask his abdes to pray for him and carry his frail old body around.

World's oldest living twins

Still the best of friends aged 102, the world's oldest living twins

Mark Twain was still alive and the South Pole had yet to be discovered when Edith Ritchie and Evelyn 'Evie' Middleton were born. Now, aged 102, the pair have been named as the world's oldest living twins.

Edith Ritchie and Evelyn 'Evie' Middleton have been named as the world's oldest living twins.

They were born on 15 November of that year on a farm near Newburgh in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Britain still had Edward VII as king and Florence Nightingale was still alive. Remarkably, despite their age, neither of the twins has ever left UK shores.

Although not identical, their mother always dressed them exactly the same. After leaving school, they worked on farms before leaving to start their own families.

Evelyn married William Middleton and had four children, 12 grandchildren,26 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Her sister Edith, married Nathaniel Ritchie and had four children, nine grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and three-great-great grandchildren. The sisters have remained close throughout their life and now live together
at Bonnyton House care home in Ellon, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

When asked her secret to a long life, Edith says 'simple living, hard work and a good husband'.

Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief Craig Glenday said: 'They’re not just the oldest in the UK, they hold the world title. They’ve clearly benefitted from good genes, and a solid life-long friendship that only twins can truly understand.'

By Hijri year he should be some where around 105-106.

Pint-sized former Mr Universe turns 100

Kolkata: A former Mr Universe who has just turned 100 said yesterday that happiness and a life without tensions are the key to his longevity.
Manohar Aich, who is 150 centimetres tall, overcame many hurdles, including grinding poverty and a stint in prison, to achieve body building glory.
His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren gathered yesterday in the eastern city of Kolkata to celebrate his birthday the day before.
Hindu priests chanted prayers while a feast was laid out to honour Aich, winner of the 1952 Mr Universe title.
Rippling his muscles and flashing a toothless grin, Aich says his ability to take his troubles lightly and remain happy during difficult times are the secrets to his long life.
That, and a simple diet of milk, fruits and vegetables along with rice, lentils and fish have kept him healthy.
He does not smoke and has never touched alcohol, he said. "I never allow any sort of tension to grip me. I had to struggle to earn money since my young days, but whatever the situation, I remained happy," Aich said.
Aich, who was born in the small town of Comilla in Bengal, was a puny youngster. But he was attracted to exercising and building his muscles when as a schoolboy he saw a group of wrestlers in action.
After leaving school in 1942, he joined the Royal Air Force under India's British colonial rulers and it was there that he began body building. Some years later, however, he was thrown into prison when he protested against colonial oppression.
Struggle to survive
India's independence in 1947 led to Aich's release from jail. Dogged by poverty, Aich and his wife struggled to put their four children through school.
His 1950 win of a "Mr Hercules" contest spurred him on to set his sights on the Mr Universe tournament in London. He won the title in 1952.
Among his regrets, Aich says, is that he never had a chance to meet fellow Mr Universe winner Arnold Schwarzenegger. But Aich says he's seen many of Schwarzenegger's action films. "I like the incredible stunts he does in the movies," Aich said.

an interesting thought...

if the syedna is such a miracle in himself, wouldn't many of his abdes also not be centenarians, basking in his reflected glory? shouldn't all sheikhs and nkd/mkd's be 100 and 100+?

'Oldest marathon man' Fauja Singh runs last 10km race...
A man believed to be the world's oldest marathon runner has run his last long distance competitive race in Hong Kong.

Fauja Singh, from Ilford, east London, who is 101 years old, finished the Hong Kong 10km (6.25 mile) event in one hour, 32 minutes and 28 seconds.

"I will remember this day. I will miss it," Mr Singh said minutes after crossing the finish line.

In 2000, he ran his first London marathon and went on to compete in a further eight marathons.

'From tragedy'
Earlier in the day, he said: "I am feeling a bit of happiness and a bit of sadness mixed together.

"I am happy that I am retiring at the top of the game but I am sad that the time has come for me to not be part of it."

He said he would miss running in competitive races but he would run again for charity if he was needed.

He became the oldest full marathon runner after finishing the 2011 Toronto marathon when he turned 100.

But his feat was not recognised by Guinness World Records because he does not have a birth certificate to prove his age - only a passport.

Mr Singh was not a professional runner when he was young but a farmer in Punjab, India.

He moved to Britain in the 1960s, and started running when he was 89 after he lost his wife and his fifth son.
"From a tragedy has come a lot of success and happiness," Mr Singh said, before the race.

His best time for the full marathon was 5 hours and 40 minutes at the 2003 Toronto marathon.

now which person in the world can claim the amazing feat of 'giving' his followers the honor of greeting him on his 98th birthday with tons of gold?

so whether there are other people older and healthier than syedna doesn't matter, because syedna will be the only one able to take billions of gold with him to his grave!

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- At 100 years young, Teresa Emily Gammarano has attained the rank of centenarian and has earned the unique distinction of having her name added to Staten Island's elite roster.

According to Teresa's niece Jayne Cooper, her aunt made her debut into the world on March 20, 1913, in the borough of Brooklyn, the second of six children born to Mary and James (Vincenzo) Gammarano — and now the only one living of her five siblings who survived to adulthood.

She lived in Brooklyn until 1976, when she relocated to Bulls Head, where she remained until 2006, at which time she settled in the Sunrise Assisted Living Community, Concord, where she resides to this day.

The birthday celebrant attended Manual Training High School, also Brooklyn, and although she never married, she has always taken great pride in her 10 nieces and nephews, 14 great-nieces and nephews and 18 great-great-nieces and nephews.

Teresa was a lifelong career woman, having held positions of office manager and statistical typist for companies such as Look magazine and Goldman-Sachs, from which she retired in 1989 at 76 years of age.

After her retirement, the super-enior enjoyed visiting Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, California and a number of other destinations both within and outside the United States. She liked taking cruises with her sister and friends, and met many new friends after retirement through her participation in organizations such as AARP.

Teresa's niece Jayne adds that her aunt has always enjoyed interacting with people, and she continues to delight in socializing with others since moving to Sunrise.

An avid lifelong shopper, Teresa still derives joy in coordinating her wardrobe and accessories. In fact, several years ago, she was delighted to be named "best dressed" resident at Sunrise.

Teresa's life at Sunrise has afforded her some leisure time, which she fills by attending parties, gatherings and musical performances at the senior facility, where she can often be found playing bingo with her new friends.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

she is a true 100, compared to syedna who was born in 1915 and is 98 according to english calender. this sprightly dame still plays bingo and has all her faculties intact. does that make her a bigger miracle than syedna?

Bro Zulfiqar,

How dare you compare her with the Dai ? She has only 10 nieces and nephews, 14 great-nieces and nephews and 18 great-great-nieces and nephews whereas the Dai's qasre mawalis, baite zainis, zaadas, zaadis number much more !! Does she have the unique distinction of people feeding her extended families and their ayyash lifestyles like how the abdes do for their Dai's family ??

World’s oldest ever man turns 116

(AFP) / 19 April 2013

Jiroemon Kimura, the oldest man ever recorded, celebrated his 116th birthday on Friday with a message from Japan’s prime minister as health chiefs launched a study into why his home city boasts so many centenarians.

It was a busy day for Kimura, who also greeted guests including the mayor of Kyotango city and officials from the Guinness World Records.

“You give us pride and confidence in the people of Japan,” Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said in a pre-recorded video greeting that marked the milestone.

Mayor Yasushi Nakayama also congratulated Kimura on reaching the ripe old age of 116, making him the current world’s oldest person and the longest living man on record.

“Yes, yes, thank you,” said Kimura, who is still a way off from the all-time record set by Jeanne Calment, a French woman who died in 1997 at the age of 122 which made her the longest living person in history.

Kimura, who was born in 1897 — the same year as American aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart — spent time in hospital after falling ill late last year, but was Friday back in the home he shares with his grand-daughter-in-law, 60.

His morning started at 7:00 am (2200 GMT) with a healthy breakfast — a bowl of porridge with red beans, egg tofu and mashed pumpkin, a local official said.

The centenarian now has to stay in bed most of the time, but never misses his three meals a day, he said.

Kimura had seven children, 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grand children and 14 great-great grandchildren, and worked at a post office for about 40 years. After retiring he took up farming which he continued to do until the age of 90.

The centenarian does not smoke, has made it a practice to eat only until he is 80 percent full, and drinks only a “modest” amount of alcohol, local authorities and media said.

His motto in life is “to eat light and live long”.

kimura's long and healthy life is due to "mola ni dua chhe"...

There are more than 50,000 people over the age of 100 years in Japan today. Most of them are walking about, and here we have a man, ready to tip over in the grave at the ripe age of 96...97 years with the dua of abde, at the end of every sentence.

They say when a good man dies, he is healthy until his last day. What we have here is a half dead man full of chemicals. No amount of gold and silver can make him healthy. All the trouble he has caused I wish him a long life with plenty of suffering.

Bolivia records: Aymara herder is 123 years old

FRASQUIA, Bolivia (AP) — If Bolivia's public records are correct, Carmelo Flores Laura is the oldest living person ever documented.

They say he turned 123 a month ago.

He walks without a cane and doesn't wear glasses. And though he speaks Aymara with a firm voice, one must talk into his ear to be heard.

Guinness World Records says the oldest living person verified by original proof of birth is Misao Okawa, a 115-year-old Japanese woman. The oldest verified age was 122 years and 164 days: Jeanne Calment of France, who died in 1997.

Guinness spokeswoman Jamie Panas said it wasn't aware of a claim being filed for the Bolivian.

The director of Bolivia's civil registrar, Eugenio Condori, showed The Associated Press the registry that lists Flores' birthdate as July 16, 1890.

Condori said birth certificates did not exist in Bolivia until 1940. Births previously were registered with baptism certificates provided by Roman Catholic priests.

"For the state, the baptism certificate is valid," Condori said. He said he couldn't show Flores' baptism certificate to the AP because it is a private document.

To what does Flores owe his longevity?

"I walk a lot, that's all. I go out with the animals," says Flores, who long herded cattle and sheep. "I don't eat noodles or rice, only barley. I used to grow potatoes, beans, oca (an Andean tuber)."

He says he doesn't drink alcohol, but imbibed some in his youth. He's eaten a lot of mutton, and though he likes pork it is hardly available. He fondly remembers hunting and eating fox as a younger man.

He sorely misses his wife, who died more than a decade ago. Of their three children only one is still alive: Cecilio, age 67. There are 40 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren but most have left Frasquia, a dozen homes a two-hour walk from the nearest road.

World's oldest man dies at 112 in upstate New York

GRAND ISLAND (WABC) -- An upstate New York man believed to be the world's oldest man has died at the age of 112.

Guiness World Records says Salus-Tiano Sanchez-Blasquez died at a nursing home in Grand Island.

He was born in Spain and came to the United States through Ellis Island in 1920.

He worked as a coal miner and a construction worker, and he credited a banana a day and six Anacin tablets for his longevity.

His daughter says he was just an "independent, stubborn man."

Mr. Rosen is 103 but he doesn’t look a day over 90. His mother died at 53 and his father at 70, but he says he feels fine and has had no major operations or health problems.

“I read in a newspaper column a long time ago that the key to a long life is sleeping on your back, so I always did that,”

“I haven’t eaten dinner home in many years,” said Mr. Rosen, who tried singles groups and other activities after his wife of 70 years, Lillian, died five years ago, when she was 95.

But nothing brought him the comfort of a fine restaurant.

“It’s my therapy, it lifts my spirits,” he said Wednesday evening while examining the menu with a magnifying glass at David Burke Townhouse on East 61st Street.

Mr. Rosen has lived long enough to see New York City fill with fine restaurants. In a city of foodies, he may be the oldest.

Mr. Rosen said he would like to find a regular dining companion. A recent six-month fling with a 90-year-old woman he met at synagogue did not work out.

“I’m still open to meeting someone,” he said, his eyes twinkling as he prepared to order coffee and dessert. “I still have the desire. That’s what counts.”

should we continue posting on this thread? are the foolish and misguided abdes now convinced that their aqa, mola, dai, mojiza na saheb, haq na saheb, haqiqi kaaba, ghaib na mailk, natiqe quran.... blah blah and blah, was mortal, made of clay, flesh and blood after all?

that all their million hours of maatam (supposed to be for hussain) and ghanu jeevo singing, marathon walkathons, car rallies, sacrificing of lakhs of innocent goats and other gimmicks ad nauseum amounted to nothing and he still had to die and meet his creator?

while he went, many of these centenarians mentioned on this thread are still alive, healthy and kicking! so what happened to the mojiza of smb's long life, prolonged at the expense of millions of dollars of the best medical treatment money can buy????

sorry if this sounds like gloating at his 'sudden and untimely death', but the only language that brain dead abdes understand is a kick in the pants.

so the 'al hayy' (ever living, immortal) syedna is dead, yes DEAD! DEAD. DEAD. DEAD. DEAD.

but the idiot retards refuse to accept. so they call him immortal. if he is immortal, then why are they praying salawat on him?? all the panjatan paak are dead, so we say salawat on them. but the ex syedna is alive! does this make him higher, more elevated in status than the panjatan???!!
