Well, you will see all type of people. I have seen such fanatics here that will put Indian Bohras too shame. Some of them have no clue about corruptions going on in the community, all they see are some mild-manner meek amil(in western country). People in India, Afrika and South East Asia are more exposed to corruptions and tyranny committed by Khotar. There is less delusion and no one is lead to believe that khotar represent anything remotely Islamic.Originally posted by Muddai:
Porus,
From what I have consistently heard, the Bohra youth in the West tend to be more extremist in their views and deeply entrenched in the establishment (here in the US at least). I would have assumed just as you have, but that is apparently not the case. In most cases they are less moderate than their first generation parents. ….
Most of ppl here need Bohra Community activity and affair for Birth OF Child, Misaq, Marriage, Death and few other community activities. And they willingly pay membership fees as they do understand that it is hard to do all this on your own. Other cost related to supporting these parasite are also borne by these individuals as they need the service of khotars throughout their life.
Another type of people does not care much of Bohras community affair, dawat or even things related to Ismaili Traditions. They have assimilated with the western ideology and lifestyle and are very independent. These people are generally out of community. Inter-marriage, none community participation and no bohras outlook.
Although Bohra community is predominantly in the Ind-pak, frankly I don’t see massive/major reformation coming from there. Indian have no problem living with corruptions because it is a norm there. Corruptions and money politic is the blood of Indian Lifestyles. Furthermore, Indian Bohra are very dependent on the community itself for most of the thing(business, marriage..etc). And there is no way out. Unlike us in western country, we enjoy more freedom and there are law in US which Khotars have to abide by. In India, everything can be sold at a price from few rupees to hundred thousands, lakh or croreOriginally posted by Muddai:
I agree with Humsafar that reform probably has best chance in South Asia, where the population is large enough for reformists to reach a critical mass required for significant change.
You are missing an important ingredient in that there needs to be an internal outrage that leads to a call for reform. Masses of people who are comfortable with the status quo, cannot be coerced into reform.
The only way that may eventually turn heads is to follow the money and show how these funds are {ab}used for personal gain, and using the justice system to bring legal proceedings. Since most of South Asia, and Africa (where the Bohra population is significant) have corrupt justice systems, it must start in the West. It is hard to call someone for raza, name your baby, or kiss feet, when he is in jail or you have seen his mug on TV for extortion or fraud.
One would hope at least….[/QB]
