Abdes - what happens in a Bohri Mosque these days?

The one and only free public forum for Bohras. The focus of this forum is the reform movement, the Dawoodi Bohra faith and, of course, the corrupt priesthood. But the discussion is in no way restricted to the Bohras alone.

I fail to understand how part of building can be waquf and part not. May be waquf has different meaning to Bohras.

In India or Pak or USA you will not find any pictures in Masjid.

Masjid is whole structure which includes covered prayer space, open or closed courtyad, classrooms and supporting facilities.

Bohras have a little diff version of Waqf area, where the waqf area is covered prayer space besides sehan, exception can be if explicitly mentioned.

We have a belief that if you pray in the waqf area with Imamat you get sawaab of 25 prayers and in non waqf area with imamat 12. So if you offer your salaat in the supporting facility which in Bohras case can be Madarsa, Jamaat Khana, Aamil's house, Moallim's house or administrative offices of Jamaat then it will be a non waqf area though covered under the Masjid precinct.

Good answer.

What does wakf actually mean?

To me waqf in general terms means giving it in charity, or putting aside it for some use for the society

You can throw some light on lineage or use of the word if you know

Mumineen.org and other such sites, all that ever happens in bohri mosques these days is kadambosis, salaam, wadhawa and adulation of the Sultan and his children. How elaborate are the decorations put up by the abdes. This is all very cute - decorations in the form of candies, cakes being cut, etc. The security guard in his red regalia is especially endearing, sooooo sweeeet! So much more fun than the austere functions in other muslim mosques!

But is there any praying going on during these meetings?
Well i guess you hardly go to masjid or normal bohri functions otherwise you would have known.

Dear Porus:

"Wakf really means "dedicated". the area that is dedicated as Masjid is sanctified where the 12 adabs of masjid behavior apply in the rest of the peripheral areas are used as support areas or for women in menstural cycle to sit and do tasbeeh or listen to the prayers or just meditate. In bohra faith a wakf(ed) property is presented as hadiyah to the dai and his administration for community use and the builder or land owner relinquishes all his/her rights to claim it as his/hers.
