Many people may (or may not) be aware, but Imam Ali Zain al-Abedeen was a prolific author of du'as. After the battle of Karbala, in which his father Imam Hussain, his family and companions were martyred by the armies of Yazid (LA), he devoted his life to prayer and reflection. He wrote many du'as which we recite often, specially in Ramadan. Often, as is the case in du'a manuals, the authorship of du'as is not given. In any case, the Imam's dua's have been collected in a book called "Sahifa Sajaadia" and also translated into English. These du'as are worth reciting, and also, more importantly, reflecting on.

In this month of Ramadan, our du'at and imams have encouraged us to recite the prayer Imam Ali Zain al-Abedeen wrote, every morning after fajar prayers. The audio of this in the voice of S. Mohammad Burhanuddin is presented on the Fatemidawat website, so is a side-by-side Arabic text and English translation:

http://www.fatemidawat.com/prayers/tran ... z-doa.html

Another translation is on the following website:

Also, the above website has the complete collection of Sahifa Sajaadia translated into English. In particular, I draw attention to the du'a we pray during the Behori (night prayers) "Maula ya, Maula ya, Antal Maula …"

I hope people read and recite these du'as and, in particular, try and understand the depth of the Imam's love, fear and devotion to Allah. These also make for an interesting study of the theology of early Islam, and reflect, in some senses, a primitive and nascent Ismailism which would be developed more fully in the following centuries.
