FGM letter to all Aamils

Dear Aamil sahib,
I hope you have seen an open letter to both Dai claimants (attached below) on FGM in Bohra community. As you know, FGM is against the law in the USA. I have also learned that a complaint has been filed with US Attorney General’s office to investigate FGM in Bohra community. I request you to report any known cases of FGM in your Jamaat to both local and federal authorities immediately. I also urge you to disclose any orders which ask you to suggest FGM to your congregants.
Regards, BAB Deen

An open letter to both Dai claimants in Bohra community
The barbaric practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is commonly practiced in Bohra community. It is administered via appointed Aamils by the order of office of Syedna. This practice is forced upon female children under the age of 7.
This barbaric practice has known and proven medical and psychological problems for the victims. The trauma and violation a child suffers at young age culminates into a lifetime of social, physical, psychological issues. Often it results in dysfunctional social and marital issues later in life. The stated reasons by Bohra clergy are totally baseless and are simply designed to enslave women. A trait followed by some tribes in pre-Islamic era.
Recently thousands of Bohra women have started a global petition drive to confront the issue. In addition, FGM is illegal in USA, Canada, Australia, most of Europe, and in several African countries. There have been legal efforts in USA, Canada and Australia to stop Bohra FGM and such efforts are gaining momentum.
The FGM practice poses a grave danger to Bohra community and has a huge liability for Aamils, parents of the violated child and office holders of Bohra Jamaats. Such liability may extend to Both Dawaats all the way to Dais.
Although divided, this common issue offers an opportunity to both Dawaats to unite and eliminate the FGM from the Bohra religion. I call upon both Syedna claimants to issue an order (farman) to stop all FGM immediately.
This is the right moral and legal thing to do. FGM has no basis in Islam. Eliminating FGM restores the rights and dignity of women and rightfully gives our mothers, sisters, wives and daughters the due place in our society.
