Bohras for Change: Manifesto

“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” – Mahatma Gandhi
Manifesto:
We were born in a community called the Dawoodi Bohras and love it. In the last century, this community has been usurped by a family and made into a slave of the head of that family. It is now, no longer a community of people joined by commonality of language, culture or values. It is now defined by accepting slavery and has become a club of dues paying members, with members having no say in the matters.
We the Bohras for Change, would like to reclaim our community and heritage. We think that the community is not the private property of any individual or family. It is a collective of like minded individuals who come together in peace. Everybody contributes voluntarily for the benefit of the common good. We rejoice in our good days and support each other in our bad days. Our religious beliefs are our individual matter and we shall not impose it on others.
Our first and primary objective is to provide support and a safety net for all those individuals, who would like to emancipate themselves by coming out of the slavery and make them feel that they do not struggle alone.

Control in Our Lives
It is a reflection on the kind of control that the Kothar wants to wield on the lives of the hapless ABDES. Not being satisfied with the interference in the lives of the community right from the time a child is born, ( he/she has to have a name approved by the clergy) to his death.
Even a source of joy and happiness like marriage is sought to be regulated by issue of a new fatwa which dictates what type of a menu should be offered during the marriage reception. There is no option offered to them and they have to toe the line and only provide a very restricted menu, and the ABDES as they always do, have capitulated, this is just one more way to subjugate and assert their control over us, the question is are we so spineless that we follow them in their every fatwa?
You’re Not Alone!
The present situation in our community has led to introspection and disillusionment about our faith. It has been replaced by blatant extortion. It is no longer about deen, but is a money game. Anything goes if money exchanges hands.
If you feel helpless and don’t know how to escape from the vicious grip, it is part of a systematic effort of the powers that be.
But, “YOU ARE NOT ALONE”. There are many like you. We just need to organise.
The process has started. In the meantime let us understand that no Messiah is coming to your rescue. You have to grow a spine and assert yourself. You can take control of your own life without damaging your situation. Start off by not following all the dictates blindly.
These are some of the things that you can do:
1. Stop asking for Raza for every small thing.
2. Don’t do arzi for names of your children.
3. Trim your wild beard. Take pride in your appearance.
4. You don’t have to wear Rida / Topi everywhere. Use your discretion.
5. Pay absolutely the minimum that you can get away with. Spend the money on your dear ones.
There are many such small things you can do.
Big changes have always started with small incremental steps. These small steps now will ensure that we can take giant strides in the near future to bring about a transformation in our community.
Remember, ” YOU ARE NOT ALONE “.
ABDE’s Think They Are Smart!
Abdes think they are smart and can negotiate anything and get a bargain, right?
Wrong…
To know how gullible they are, look at “Wajebaat”. The only Wajebaat in Quran is Zakaat and is restricted to 2.5% of the income. According to Islam, this is to be paid directly as charity, to poor and indigent.
Look how Bohras are extorted. There is a long list of Arabic words, collectively called Wajebaat, taxing everything and everybody, from an unborn child to dead ancestors. The amounts range from 10% to 30% or more of the family income.
Nowadays, the Mafia will ask for any amount that comes to their mind, literally the moon! Then the ” smart” Bohras will negotiate and manage to reduce it.
They will then brag about this among their relatives and friends.
Let’s put things in perspective.
What do they pay?
1. Any amount they pay is more than zero. It is much much more than the mandatory 2.5%. Still they land up paying. They even take loans to pay!
2. They crawl on their knees to pay the money. So, apart from money they pay with their dignity.
3. They will swallow any insult, threat and indignity heaped on them.
Very Smart isn’t it ?
May be it’s time for a change with Bohras for Change!
Why is extortion rising in the Bohra Community?
In 1965 when the 51st Dai expired, there were said to be 10 lakh Bohras. Since then the World’s population has grown by 2.5 times. So, by natural growth, the Bohras should have been 25 lakh. But presently there are only 6 lakh card holding Bohras today. Where have the 19 lakh Bohras gone? Drifted away, considering the state of the community. The population of the community has been reduced to 25% of what it should have been. This has happened in the last 50 years. This means that the Bohra community has a half life of 25 years.
On the other hand the family of the Dai, which was less than 100, considering the sons and daughters of the 51st Dai and called Qasre Aali has grown by leaps and bounds. They don’t have to work to earn, so can afford to breed like rabbits.
This so called ‘Royal’ family, the Qasre Aali now numbers more than 2500. Of this the inner circle, the Baite Zaini, number a few hundreds.
So the host population is decreasing and the parasite population is increasing. No wonder they have to think of new schemes of extorting money.
How long do you think this is sustainable?
Money is their lifeline and who controls the source? WE, the common Bohras!

Recipe of a Cult
Allah to Sirf Namaaz me yaad aaya.
Aur Maula to har waqt yaad aaya.
Kaaba ki ek bhi tasweer nahi gharme.
Aur Moula ki tasweero se pura ghar sajaya.
Namaz ki parwa kise.
Deedar karke sawab kamaya.
Gareebo aur zaroorat mando ko ek paisa Na diya.
Zyafat me lakho Rupya lootaya.
Allah ki qhushi se kya Wasta.
Bas Dai ko hi Hamne Qhush Karaya.
