"O' mankind! Fasting and namaaz have been made compulsory upon you because you are afflicted by sinfulness" - Imam Ahmed al-Mastuur (AS)
Ikhwaan-ul-Safa.

"Invalid is the fast of he that disobeys the Imam, and there is no fast for the slave that has run away - until he returns, and there is no fast for the disobedient wife until she repents and there is no fast for the disobedient child until he becomes obedient." - Imam Ja'far al Sadiq (AS) Kitaabul Sawme wal e`tikaaf - Daaimul Islam Vol. I

"Fasting during the month of Ramadan is a prescribed obligation every year. The least (among the prerequisites) by which the believer's obligation to fast is fulfilled is the sincere resolve of his heart to fast and to renounce eating, drinking and sexual intercourse throughout the day. The believer should extend this devotion to all the limbs and avoid all things forbidden by Allah, his lord in order to gain thereby complete communion with him. If he acts accordingly then he has indeed fulfilled his prescribed obligation." - Imam Ja'far al Sadiq (AS)

"A man who does not guard his tongue, his hearing, his sight and his limbs (from forbidden acts) during his fasting has indeed not fasted at all." - Fatema binte Rasulallah (AS)

"Imam Jafer al Sadiq (AS) used to tell his children, that when the month of Ramadan comes one should become assiduous (in worship) for it is during this month that provisions for livelihood are distributed (by Allah) that fates of men are determined and a goodly company(from among the righteous) will be determined (to show up before) the lord and in it is a night good works wherein are better then those in a thousand months." - Imam Ja'far al Sadiq (AS)

"Fasting during the month of Ramadan is a shield against the fire." - Maulana Ali (AS)

"Zakat is levied on everything and the zakat of the body is fasting" - Rasulallah (SA)

"The sleep of the fasting one is worship and his breath the glorification of Allah." - Rasulallah (SA)

Brothers
AS
"Invalid is the fast of he that disobeys the Imam,
What does it mean today when there is no "Imam".

Ithana-Asharies's Imam is thousans of year old but is in hiding.

Ismaili Bohra Imam is in hiding but will not come out.

Ismali Aga Khani's Imam is there but he has abolished fasting.

Majority of Muslim (Sunni) has no Imam sice Ali RA so they are fasting in vain?

Ramadhan Mubarak and Wasalaam

Importance of Fasting

Abu Hurayrah narrated that Prophet SAW said;

Even a perpetual fasting will not compensate for missing one day of fasting Ramadan without excuse or illness

Related by Ahmed and at-Timidhi

An "excuse" here refers to a journey, illness or hard physical labor. It also includes a pregnant or nursing mother if fasting could harm her or her baby.

Blessings of Fasting

Abu Hurayrah narrated that Prophet SAW said;

Whoever fasts in Ramadhan because of Iman (faith) seeking reward from Allah alone, will have his past sins forgiven; whoever prays at night during Ramadan because of Iman, seeking reward from Allah alone, will have his past sins forgiven; and whoever passes Layalt al-Qadr (the blessed night0 in prayer because of Iman, seeking reward from Allah alone, will have his past sins forgiven.

Related by al-Bukhari and Muslim

Caution: Seek reward from Allah alone. Not from Imam or Dai or Shehzada or do not channel your prayers thru them.

Layalt al-Qadr happens during last ten nights of Ramadan especially odd nights. Not 23rd or 27th as popularly believed.

Blessings of Fasting

Abdullah bin Amr reported that the Prophet SAW said:

Fasting and Qur’an will both intercede for a believer on the day of judgment. Fasting will say; “O Lord, I denied him food and sexual pleasure during the day, so accept my intercession for himâ€

When servant of Allah observes fasting for a day for the sake of Allah, he thereby repels the fire (of hell) a distance of seventy years.

(Similar to Ali RA’s Hadith. Also note it says Abe-Allah not Abde- Sayadana )
