What is Bohra view on Organ Donation
This is while alive and after death ?
Re: What is Bohra view on Organ Donation
There is only principle that applies to Orthodox Bohras:
"Razani Araz karo". This is the practice. It is being applied for blood donation. Donation with raza is acceptable.
In matters of ideological principles, my more knowledgeable friends here will be in position to enlighten us.

Re: What is Bohra view on Organ Donation
Lets hope we have a comprehensive and logical debate ?
In the west one can sign up during renewing drivers license and should the ambos find you in a acident state they will comply with your request and provide your organs to those waiting for transplants.
If organ donation is permitted by Muslims and hope by Bohras too then the body will not be released as soon as required for dafan, and during Ghusul the body will have post mortem stitches which will be a challenge.
However the rescuing a life is far much greater than complying by rituals and hopefully in Allahs view is a better deed.

Re: What is Bohra view on Organ Donation
I am an old man and I have already stipulated to my heirs that upon my death not only my organs but also my body should be given to a university hospital.
I think that to do a good deed, you do not require any one's "raza".

When put this question to Islamic Scholar, Dr. Asghar Ali Engineer this was his comment:
Dear Insaf,
My comment is as follows:
In Prophet's days there was no such issue as organ donation and hence you do not find any answer to this in Qur'an or hadith. When organ donation techniques were invented first all Ulama, as usual, rejected it as un-Islamic as in body buried without certain organs cannot be raised with all organs in tact on the day of judgement and all organs have to answer for their deeds. Also, some ulama argued that this amounts to muthla i.e. mutilation of the body which is not permitted in Islam.
However, later when Muslim patients in need of urgent organ transplant began to die and pressure mounted on Ulama, they did re-think and permitted it under the doctrine of zarurah i.e. necessity. In Qur'an Allah permits eating of pork if one fears death due to hunger. The ulama then took this as analogy and concluded that in view of necessity to save life organ donation can be permitted.
The Bohra ulama never do any such thinking, let alone re-thinking. Here the culture is to mechanically follow whatever da'i says. The 51st da'i was refusing permission for transplant but he too later realised it is not wise and permitted.

Do you have the raza for saying so? People have been excommunicated for declaring their intention for doing so.@Jayanti
