Salaam to all.
One of the few good things being done by the Jamaat in Ahmedabad is the zabihat programme. Teh volunteers manage everything very well and meat is distributed to all mumins. Last year when the prices of animals had skyrocketed, These volunteer managed to secure goats at RS 8000 and Sheep at RS 7000, You can book an animal of your choice in advance and you are given a token number. After the khutba one has to go to Panj Shaheed ,Khanpur ziyarat. There is a large ground there and cold water, sherbet ,tea and chairs are provided, We wait till your number is called and slaughter the animal. Out of which 5 Kilos and organ will be given to you. The rest is weighed and distributed throughout the bohras of Ahmedabad.
This is a very good system and kudos to the volunteers who are there doing the hands on work. They take care of everything . If any body wants to do their zabihat this year in India. Then Ahmedabad is a place you should consider. But please do it through a bohra friend or relative living there. Do not contact the jamaat as you never know where the money would go. This is for those people who wnat to help dawoodi bohras only.Unfortunately I will ot be abe to help in this as I am not there.

No Bukhari bhai.
Last year the prices were really high. This usually happens every year as the Eid days are near. So last year the jamaat animals turned out cheaper .I was there and did my zabihat there. The animals were also good. This year we still do not know the prices.

We can even get a goat for RS 2500 in Ahmedabad. A few months ago I had done a sadaqa of a goat for RS 2500, the meta was meant for a madrassa in Juhapura ( the largest muslim slum in India ),
However these goats are very small and yield less meat, I do not have the current prices of the zabihat goats/sheep for this year. But I beleive that the jamaat will arrange for lesser priced ones as they have the bargaining power due to the quantity.

Salaam Alaikum to all.
I have got the figures for the zabihat animals from the Ahmedbad Jamaat.
A goat is for RS 8250 and a Sheep is for RS 7250. I consider the price to be very reasonable and fair. The volunteers are a group of dedicated people and do it for the pleasure of Allah. All one has to do is slaughter the animal and bring back your share of meat. If you request then they do not mind to give you a little more. They take care of everything from the purchase to the distribution and the cleaning of the grounds. They are all very corteous and also offer you refreshments and not to mention the insults that they take calmly in case if one token is given before the other or if there is some delay in their service. I have arranged for a sheep and I request those of who can afford to think about doing their zabihat in Ahmedabad this year. You must surely be knowing an Ahmedabadi mumin ,through whom you can arrange an animal. A needy mumin might be able to have zabihat meat because of you this Eid, not to mention the azeem sawaab.

Sorry for bringing this up but is appropriate as we are on the topic

Is it necessary to encourage this practise if the prices are inflated for this occasion ? Would it be better to arrange a charity which distributes rupees say 3000 the third that needsto go to the poor to provide a mix of food through the course of the hajj month?

Because at the above inflated prices, sure we have done the ritual and the poor gets his third share may be 3 kg of meat but the profits end with the sheep traders. Whether on the Eid days or not the sheep will only have 10kg of meat are wenot encouraging some kind of commercial demand ?

I beleive Allah is testing our will and commitment not how well we can slaughter animals ! Hence the gesture is to give to the needy and have fun and festivity.

The jamaat prices are not inflated.
As per the animals size and health. The prices are better then if you go and try to buy the same kind of animal elsewhere. I tried to do it last year on my own but was not successfull. Thankfully a freind who is in the comittee was able to arrange me one sheep just a few days before eid. Mutton is very expensive in Ahmedabad and so is beef. Chicken has crossed the 100 RS per kilo mark, long ago. Non veg is a luxury for most people. And thanks to Allah I will feel very happy that this year again a few families will be able to have meat as Allah has chosen me to deliver it to them Inshallah.
I would also like to share something. Last year ,It was the first time that I did a qurbani and Alhamdolillah I have been bestowed with unprofound grace since then .Every body who know me can see the difference . And this year I will be able to afford two qurbanis Inshallah.
