Bohra Youth Association - Kuwait

At the forefront of the reform movement

Bohra Youth Association – Kuwait is a full-fledged functioning reformist jamaat. It is an affiliate of Bohra Youth, Udaipur and ever since the inception of the movement with its motto of “fight wrong, follow truth” BYA – Kuwait has been at the forefront of reformist struggle. Since its foundation Bohra Youth Kuwait has been extending support both morally and financially to its parent body in Udaipur. BYA- Kuwait’s role in supporting the spirit and momentum back home has been enormous and it is being acknowledged by the leaders and followers alike.

Given the constraints of living Kuwait in terms of restriction on movement, public gathering, ownership of properties and legal rights, members of Bohra Youth, Kuwait are mostly confined to indoor activities. Currently there are 300 adult members living in Kuwait which comprise 60 families. Single men and bachelors live in Clubs (a residence shared by many individuals is called a Club in Kuwait).

The majority of members including families live in two main areas called Salmiya and Jleeb Al Shuyoukh with few spread in Farwaniya and Khaitan localities. In the past there was no such thing as Markaz, however for last five years or so Bohra Youth-Kuwait has acquired a Centre where all the religious programs are held. Most notable among them is Moharram, which is organized in a big way and is well participated. The holy month of Ramadan is also marked with daily community prayers and provisions for Iftari (breaking fast).

Bohra Youth, Kuwait meets all its expenses through a nominal monthly fee for adult members and through voluntariy donations from community members residing in Kuwait. The spirit and determination is maintained throughout by Bohra Youth, Kuwait members and would continue to do so till such times when a new Sun would rise on the horizon heralding a new era - free from the shackles of dictatorial and centralized regime of the Kohtar.
