Syedna’s nephew goes missing

The one and only free public forum for Bohras. The focus of this forum is the reform movement, the Dawoodi Bohra faith and, of course, the corrupt priesthood. But the discussion is in no way restricted to the Bohras alone.

Hmmmm... very interesting ... perhaps the well fed Mr. Tamim wanted to make some easy cash by staging his own kidnapping. I guess by being crooked, phony and deceitful he's just carrying on the family tradition ...

Verbatim Translation of News in Mumbai Samachar dated 2nd Dec. 2004
Amil Saheb was kidnapped by Mistake and was brought to Juhu (By our staff reporter)
Surat: Dawoodi Bohra Aamil Abdul Qadir appeared in front of police and while giving his true statement said that he was kidnapped by gunmen at Mumbai itself. With his this sort of statement in front of police the mystery of his missing has come to an end in some way.
According to reliable sources the statement of mysterious missing Aamil Saheb on 18th Nov. was recorded by the Railway police in which he said that for traveling from Mumbai to Surat he had done the reservation for Ajmer Express train in advance. While he was waiting for the train at the station he fell asleep and when got up he found himself in a Tata Sumo. He had three more men beside the driver, who were carrying revolvers.
It is then that he realized that he had been kidnapped. Thereafter the kidnapper took him from one place other in Mumbai at the gunpoint for nine days. Thereafter the kidnappers came to know that Abdul Qadir Bhaisaheb is not the person whom they wanted to kidnapped and they had kidnapped a wrong person. On ninth day the kidnappers left Abdul Qadir Bhaisaheb in front of Atlanta Hotel in Juhu. From their Amil saheb somehow reached to his home in Mumbai.
Railway police also took the statement of complainant and maternal uncle of Amil saheb, Qutbuddin Chunawala in the matter of mysteriously missing Aamil Saheb for 9 days.
It is important to note here that the railway police inspector who was given the charge of investigation in this matter has been arrested today in a land scam and therefore police has resumed the investigation in the matter missing Amil Saheb.

Syedna's kin isn't playing ball: Cops
By: " Mid Day " Correspondent , Mumbai.
December 10, 2004

The Syedna’s grandnephew who went missing mysteriously from Mumbai on November 18 and reappeared equally strangely on November 28, is not co-operating with investigators, said police.

Mumbai railway police had sent an official to Surat to interrogate Abdul Kadir Tamin Mustafa Sayed (30) about his disappearance.

Abdul Kadir, whose granduncle is the spiritual head of the Dawoodi Bohras, is a religious leader in Surat. He had gone missing while travelling from Mumbai to Surat by train.

He reappeared in Surat on November 28 and claimed he had been kidnapped and held in Juhu for nine days.

Since then, the police have been trying to question him to find out the truth behind his disappearance.

But they have been unsuccessful so far. A V Sankhe, assistant commissioner of police (railways), Mumbai, said a police team from his office which was sent this week to question Abdul Kadir had returned without any information.

“The team has given me a report saying he was not co-operating and is suppressing facts,” said Sankhe. Police have now asked the commissioner of police (railways) for advice on how to investigate the case further.

Abdul Kadir claimed to have gone off to sleep after boarding the train from Mumbai Central. He says he woke up five hours later to find himself in a house in Juhu. He claims the kidnappers let him go after nine days.

An official in the Syedna’s office in Mumbai said they believe Abdul Kadir was mistaken for somebody else and kidnapped. He was set free after the kidnappers realised their mistake, the official said.

But police said they could not close the case even though the missing man had returned unless they can explain the disappearance.

“He could be suppressing facts because of a threat to his life. He has to account for the missing period,” said Sankhe.
