Where Muslims went wrong ?

Given modern distractions, the need to understand Islam better has never been more urgent. Through this forum we can share ideas and hopefully promote the true spirit of Islam which calls for peace, justice, tolerance, inclusiveness and diversity.

What the author forgot to mention is that the even with their condition, the Muslims have managed to become the biggest threat to world peace.

As far as threats are concerned, I am not sure if that is such a bad idea, consider how the Americans threatened Saddam and then attacked and destroyed his country and killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqis. Look at how they threaten Iran or Syria or North Korea.

Look at how the Israelis threaten the Palestinians and kill kids even if they are carrying toy weapons!!

Dr. Farrukh Saleem's claim that 6 out of 10 Muslims cannot read and are illiterate does not take into account the fact that standards used for literacy are rather low. So the real number is significantly higher. Assuming Muslim illiteracy rate is is as low as 60% [!], means only 4 out of 10 have the ability to even read Irshad Manji's book, that is if they wanted to. Then you add the brain-washed apologists and the ignorant like Anajmi, and you have a negligible few who read such material.

....the people that would most benefit from reading such material cannot read, don't want to, or are forbidden from doing so.

If literacy means that you have to read the lesbian's book, then I would prefer to remain illiterate.

In fact I am glad that more than 60% of Muslims are illiterate. Atleast education has turned them into average morons!!

Imagine how much good literacy has done to you. If you had read the intelligence reports right, you wouldn't be in an illegitimate war.

If you notice, Irshad Manji isn't criticising the tenetes of Islam but its interpretetions and the attitude of its follwers. And this is very close to your own stand on the subject when sometime back you said " it is unfortunate that Islam is judged by its followers ".
Irshad Manji:
We have to come to terms with the ambiguities... in the Quran — something that very few [if any] practising Muslims are willing to acknowledge publicly. But in recognising that the Quran provides plenty of room for debate and dissent, we also pay tribute to Islam's tradition of independent thinking: ijtihad . I hope to see ijtihad popularised and democratised.

I am sure I am not a scholar of Islam or of the interpretations of the quran, but does Irshad Manji refer to a translation of the quran which allows her to be a lesbian and a muslim at the same time?

You are no scholar of Islam yet you define who will go to heaven or hell. This is why you will never be a scholar..... You got a job because mommy asked you to do so, and now you are awaiting a response from someone to tell you what the book says.

Read the damn thing and you will know for yourself ! Why wait for someone to spoon feed it to you ?

Looks like you are running out of smart writers for you to be pushing shit written by a lesbian. I don't give a f--k about Irshad Manji or what she has written. Apparently you do. Too bad she's a lesbian. ;)

Besides, you don't need to be a scholar to figure out who goes to heaven or hell in most cases. You were pretty easy to figure out and I am sure no scholar will disagree with me on that one!!

And when I say scholars, I mean the real ones, not the ones that you consider scholars, like the lesbian!!

And you should learn the truth from english.aljazeera.net

Then you will be the best of both worlds, you will know how to debate and you will know the truth with which to debate.

I think the emphasis is incorrect. You must be on the look out for missing information. A term you don't hear so often is Net Domestic Product.

A conpany like Hertz buys cars to rent. They are making money by renting the cars, but the cars wear out in the process. This is depreciation. Hertz can file this depreciation with the IRS to reduce its taxes and economists subtract this depreciation to compute NDP, Net Domesti Product.

NDP = GDP - Depreciation

What the economists don't tell us is that automobiles purchased by consumers get added to GDP and they wear out also but their depreciation doesn't get subtracted. How much do American consumers loose on depreciation of automobiles each year? We don't know. They don't compute it, or if they do they don't tell us.

The economy of the world is running on bad algebra.
