Sad Intiqqal of Mr. Huseinbhai Hamdani of ONTARIO, CANAD
Sad Intiqqal of Mr. Huseinbhai Hamdani of ONTARIO, CANAD
It is with great sadness and regret, we have to announce the tragic demise of Mr. Huseinbhai Hamdani of Ontario Canada this week. He was buried yesterday in the Niagara Peninsula.
Mr. Husein Hamdani, of Yemeni origin, previously from Uganda, took a refuge with his large family in Canada after Idi Amin expelled most of the Asians and Arabs from Uganda.
His family prospered in the poultry, dry cleaning and laundry, real estate and used clothing business in Canada.
Whilst in Uganda, he fought the Kothar during the early seventees, when the Late Yusuf Najmuddin, son of Syedna Taher Saifuddin, tried to take over the once autonomous East African Jamaats. Most of the Ugandan Jamaats left the main stream radical Yusufis and hence the first progressive Jamaats were formed in EAst Africa. Unfortunately all the Asians were expelled from Uganda soon after.
Once his family took refuge in Ontario, Canada, his family garciously contributed a significant sum of money, in conjunction with the Mamujee family of Kenya, to sponsor, found and build the first Progressive Centre of the Reformist in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
His family left the Ontario progressive stream en mass a few years ago together with other progressive families due to the families' perception (or reality!) of being supposedly treated shabily by a minority of some of office members of the progressives - much to the rejoicing of the mainstream Kothar Bohris. Some even returned and joined the mainstream Kothar Jamaat.
His family then donated and built a mosque for the main stream Muslims in the city of St. Catharines, Ontario - Masjid-e-Noor.
There were about 1000 people who attended the funeral, burial and the services for the deceased
Mr. Huseinbhai.
May Allah rest Huseinbhai's soul in eternal peace and give the bereaved family, including his widow, sabar...Ameen.

Re: Sad Intiqqal of Mr. Huseinbhai Hamdani of ONTARIO, CANAD
Heartfelt condolences to the Hamdani family on their tragic loss of their Elder, Huseinbhai Hamadani.
Isn't it ironic and selfish and a height of ungratefulness and misplaced ego by the APDBO - Association of Progressive Dawoodi Bohras in Ontario, that it hasn't even publicised this bereavement to the Progressive or the Reformist Bohri world or publicly or through this Forum announced or condoled Huseinbhai's wafat - who after all was the founding member and benefactor of APDBO.
Perhaps it is true that the family was really treated "shabily" by some of the office members of the APDBO; and hence the mass walk-out of the family (at least 40 members or so) from APDBO.
Hope sanity prevails on part of APDBO and they acknowledge the services of Huseinbhai Hamdani (not tht the family craves it!) to the Progressive's cause - especially in Canada.

the silence of the APDBO members and committee on this is deafening to say the least...
or do we draw the conclusion that their silence is eloquent?

Re: Sad Intiqqal of Mr. Huseinbhai Hamdani of ONTARIO, CANAD
Regarding ungratefulness, thanklessness and ingratitude of human beings such as some of the office bearers of APDBO - so-called psuedo-professionals or "probably educated but with no common sense or ethical finess or integrity"
Dwelling on the subject of thanklessness, we are reminded of one of the much appreciated lines of William Shakespeare who used to write in the language of the common people and on the subjects that were of interest to them too.
"Blow, blow, thou winter wind, thou art not so unkind as men who remember not."
"Freeze, freeze, though bitter sky, thou sting is not so nigh, as man's ingratitude."

mbohra / mburhan,
Please note that this site and the message board are not directly related to APDBO and as such is not obliged to report on it activities or make announcements on its behalf.
APDBO could not have publicized Huseinbhai's death through this forum any more than Udaipur jamaat could have done for the death of Sheikh Ahmed Ali. In both cases the news was announced by individual participants.
Your grievances with APDBO maybe valid but please realize that not many APDBO members visit this site, and as such the absence of comments from them should not be hastily interpreted as thanklessness and ingratitude.

ADMIN:
With due respect, I beg to differ with your opinion:
1. Perhaps APDBO is not directly connected to this site. However, it is indirectly related:
- This website is linked to that of APDBO's:
http://dawoodi-bohras.com/about_us/jamaats/apdbo/
- I understand that the ADMIN is a member in good standing of APDBO. (If not, my profound apologies). Perhaps the ADMIN may argue that the ADMIN is also a member in good standing of a golf club, a professional association etc.
The fact that not all the members of the APDBO visit this is irrelevant, in our opinion.
As one loyal member of the APDBO, the ADMIN should alert the other members and or officers of the "goings on" in any association if certain actions bring the association's reputation into disrepute; or for that matter to enhance the goodwill of the respective association.
2. This site's one of the mission's is:
"It's not for nothing that people continue to fight for their rights in the face of tremendous odds and at the cost of unimaginable personal sacrifice.
We are of the belief that though our struggle is unique in many ways, it is yet intertwined with other peoples' struggle for peace, justice and dignity. Only by relating to larger struggles around us we can strengthen our commitment to our shared ideals."
Doesn't it make eminent sense that one of the East African and Canadian Reformists, Huseinbhai's sad demise who struggled and sacrificed for the reformists' cause, both morally and materially, should be at least reported, if not on this site, but at least on the APDBO's site - which is indirectly linked?
3. How can our grievances with APDBO maybe valid on one hand on the other hand the absence of comments from them should not be hastily interpreted as thanklessness and ingratitude?.
PS: "Either the woman is pregnant (or virgin) or she is not, Can't be both at the same time.
Thanklessness, ingratitude and ungratefulness on part of ABDBO's is alleged because of some officials of APDBO's not recognizing or acknowledging the Hamdani family's and others' (who also left APDBO) certain alleged unIslamic and oppression of minorities issues etc.

Re: Sad Intiqqal of Mr. Huseinbhai Hamdani of ONTARIO, CANAD
Can any one explain me what APDBO mean?
Re: Sad Intiqqal of Mr. Huseinbhai Hamdani of ONTARIO, CANAD
mburhan,
We do not wish to argue with you. We repeat, this site does not concern itself with APDBO, its activities and its politics or, for that matter, with the activities and politics of any other reformist jamaat. If anybody wants to report and discuss issues pertaining to them, they are welcome to do so here. Likewise, you too are welcome to air your grievances with APDBO here but please do not take out your anger on us and this site. We are a neutral party and should not be blamed for alleged shortcomings of other people and organizations.
Having said that, we understand that Husein Hamdani was an important reformist figure in East Africa and Canada, and we want to acknowledge that fact without any reservation. The reform movement must recognize his role and accord him the honor he deserves. You can help us do that by sending us a write-up on him with his photograph. We will put it up in the "people" section.

Sorry, ADMIN, I respectfully beg to differ with your opinions again!!:
1. You state that you do not wish to argue with me. You,trying to defend this site is an argument in itself.
2. Sorry, again on one hand you assert that:
"We repeat, this site does not concern itself with APDBO, its activities and its politics or, for that matter, with the activities and politics of any other reformist jamaat."
but on the other hand other hand, previoulsy, you seemed to have defended APDBO (and appeared to have concerned yourself with APDBO!) by alluding as follows:
" that not many APDBO members visit this site"
"the absence of comments from them should not be hastily interpreted as thanklessness and ingratitude."
3. Other than what the other progressives already know of Mr. Huseinbhai Hamdani's recent contributions, I have no other direct biographcal or historical knowledge of either Mr. Hamdani's or his family or his past contribution to the reformist's cause.
Perhaps through this Forum, I would request either the family members of their friends to accept your offer of contributing a relevant "write-up" or a photograph of the deceased etc.
4. The only information I can muster from the public domain regarding the family is as follows:
Re: one of his family's businesses:
http://www.hamdanitextiles.com/
Re: his grand son, an eminent Ontario lawyer:

Re: Sad Intiqqal of Mr. Huseinbhai Hamdani of ONTARIO, CANAD
admin,
perhaps, mburhan does have a point. this site represents all reformists worldwide and stands for all the good that they have done or are doing now. it is a window for anyone looking in. as such one would expect that more sensitivity was shown in such matters where any past reformists who left the fold for whatever reasons but who contributed a lot are acknowledged when they pass away, without delay and with all alacrity by concerned jamaats. i am sure that they are aware of everything that goes around them. yet if they keep quiet, it reflects on this site and against the reformists themselves.
one does understand your position, but dont u think then that the reformists need to be better organised? precisely my point of being more pro-active. a reformist in my opinion is one who stands for justice and fights oppression throughout his life, not only until they leave the mainstream jamaats. after they have left and are undertaking no further reforms they should stop calling themselves "reformists or progressives", as one does not end being a social reformer, if u call yrself that, once one has one escaped oppression.

Al Zulfiqar,
It's simple, if people send us the news/contribution we'll publish it. And this forum is always available for people to use at any time without our intervention.
Yes, reformists should be more organized and do this and do that... but all this is academic. Let us focus on what each of us can do. And that's all that matters.

Re: Sad Intiqqal of Mr. Huseinbhai Hamdani of ONTARIO, CANAD
I believe all reformist groups in every town/city across the globe must affiliate and interconnect amongst themselves via regular meetings, conferences, newsmedia, flyers and website links. It would also be an excellent idea to form an alliance of an International Progressive Dawoodi Bohra Forum consisting of various categories of topics in strict regulatory concordance where all reformists (and as well as mainstreams) come together to speak their minds and be better informed and updated at all times of all that comes and goes around by the members and affiliates themselves. This will further strengthen, bond and support all 'progressives' and help the mainstreams to enlightment in its cause.

when they themselves are not so active, then how can they accuse the 'closet reformists' of inaction? and why shud we bother either?
we are thankful that this forum provides us a free and unfettered platform for airing our views and participating in discussions/debates and learning new things. but i also mistakenly thought that it was also a tool for reformists to gather information and formulate plans/strategies to come up with actions which would strike back at the kothar's evil practices.
i have to admit that my belief was mistaken and misplaced. so let us engage in our daily round of words and be content....
