Shaikh Huzaifa Jariwalla was jailed for 12 weeks for fraud in January in London. This is a good example of the unethical, greedy and criminal mentality of the people that we have as leaders and senior members of our community as well as the mentality of Jamea graduates.

Shaikh Jariwalla’s crime is in fact much less than the crimes committed by many bhai sahebs, amils and establishment figures for many decades now. They are involved in large scale theft, embezzlement and corruption but this goes unpunished. Perhaps members of this forum have more examples.

Shaikh Huzaifa Jariwalla graduated from Jamea Surat after completing the full 11 years there. He is a class teacher in madrasa. He is responsible for imparting religious and moral knowledge to a full class of children and he is paid a substantial wazifa by London jamaat. He is the son of another unethical sheikh who is employed full time by jamat in charge of the day to day running of the mosque complex despite being lazy and incompetent.

Despite being a qualified and practicing solicitor, Shaikh Jariwalla was convicted for fraud and dishonesty.

If solicitors, teachers, public servants are convicted for such crimes they lose their jobs immediately. However, such scruples do not apply in our community. When released from jail, Shaikh Jariwalla will continue sitting in the front row, teaching in madrasa, receiving his wazifa, getting compulsory salaams in each and every majlis, and being sent to lead Ramadan prayers and to do Moharram vaaz. In fact, these “khidmat” activities will increase because he will need the income as he will be unable to work as a solicitor again.

Benefit cheat lawyer jailed

A PRACTISING solicitor who fraudulently claimed more than £9000 in benefits will spend time in custody.
Huzaifa Jariwalla, of Dunsmore Close, Hayes, was jailed for 12 weeks after admitting to claiming Council Tax benefit and housing benefits to cover rent, and providing the local authority with a false tenancy agreement to back up his application.
He was rumbled after Hillingdon Council's fraud investigation team looked into his case, and found that he in fact owned the property outright.
He raked in £9216.34 between March 2009 and March 2010.
Jariwalla, 37, is a solicitor specialising in property law, and runs his own business from his Hayes address, 'Notary Services', preparing and executing legal documents for clients by appointment.
Uxbridge Magistrates viewed his legal background to be an aggravating feature, and decided that jail time was warranted.
Garry Coote, the Council's corporate fraud manager, said: "Mr Jariwalla cynically and systematically cheated Hillingdon taxpayers out of thousands of pounds.
"The council is very pleased to see that his sentence reflects the seriousness of his actions and hopes that anyone thinking of cheating the system in the same way will think again as a result."
