I have heard that quite a few abdes have made millions in a quick time by doing calling card (VOIP cards) business in Kuwait. Anyone with detailed information and modus operandi of such a business? This business is highly illegal in Kuwait and those who have been caught are jailed or deported. However, by that time, they have transferred crores to India and once they are back, they live comfortably in India. The business is called 'Card business' among abde circles but there are no real cards involved. Its just a VOIP code number through which lakhs of foreign people based in Kuwait make calls to their families back in the Indian subcontinent and other places.

PS: VOIP telephony business is illegal in Kuwait and Kuwait telecom charges (controlled by Kuwaiti government) are very high. Hence the flourishing illegal trade!

Yes mostly true, but not only bohras, many others have made maximum use of this VOIP technology. Bangladeshi, Egyptians, South Indians and western foreigners. The Government deems it illegal because it affects their revenue. Morally there is nothing illegal about it. Poor migrant labours and workers could talk and connect with their families at affordable rates. Eventually government relaxed their rules and made VOIP legal for personal use only. However technology waits for none. Times have changed and this card business is fad now. Every one is using watsapp and other free calling apps to connect. There are many whose fortune changed. Now they are comfortably sitting back at home be it in Gulf or home country. Telecom industry struggles or is too arrogant to cope up with technology to change their business strategies due to backing of oppressive govt regulations on its people.
