Wearing used emerald stone

I have an emrald ring originally worn by my ancestor... Can i wear this as well? Hindu astrology forbids it stating that a stone has a life for only 2-4 years and after that it only emits negativity... Does bohra beleif or theology have any thing to say about used stones
