Following are two news item about Dr. Asghar Ali Engineer for your information:
Dr. Asghar Ali Engineer's Lectures in UP Centre for Study of Society (CSSS) and Secularism organized a week long programme for Peace and Conflict resolution in Varanasi, U.P. on 7 to 13th November 2005. More 50 participants from all over UP participated. Dr. Asghar Ali Engineer spoke on various subjects like Islam and Peace, Kashmir Problem, Theories of conflict Resolution, Lessons of Gujarat Riots, Genesis of Pakistan, Communal Violence in Post-Independence India and Composite culture in India.
He also visited Mau on 10th November 2005 where riots had taken place in last week of October in which 14 people were killed. He addressed a meeting of teachers, intellectuals, writers and activists in Mau, which was attended by large number of Hindus and Muslims. The participants assured Dr. Asgar Ali that henceforth they will work for peace in Mau and Mau will not witness riots again. This meeting had a very salutary effect and after this meeting administration released curfew.
On 8th November 2005 he was invited by Banaras Hindu University to deliver valedictory address in a seminar on Premchand. About 200 writers and intellectuals of Varanasi participated.
He was also invited on 11 November 2005 to address students of Banaras Hindu University on 'Globalisation and Communalism'. More than 300 students of BHU attended the lecture. In last 10 years no such events had taken place in the campus of BHU. This lecture infused new life in student activities.
Dr. Asgar Ali Engineer was also a keynote speaker in Allahabad on 12th November 2005 on centenary celebration of 'Sajjad Zaheer', a great writer and intellectual who founded progressive writers movement in 1936. The centenary celebrations were attended by progressive writers of Hindi and Urdu from all over India.
Madras University Thesis on "Contribution of Asghar Ali Engineer for Communal Harmony" To get a degree of doctorate from any university a student has to write a thesis on some prominent personality or community or event that is responsible for some positive change in the society or world at large. Earlier few university students had chosen the "Reform movement in Dawoodi Bohra Community" for their thesis.
Sister Mary Marikaruthammal is a student of philosophy in Madras University and she has chosen the personality of Dr. Asghar Ali Engineer for her thesis for the degree of Doctorate in Philosophy.
Since many years Dr. Asghar Ali has been writing extensively and organising consistently lectures, seminars and workshops for inter-religious dialogues for communal Harmony and peace. He is the recipient of many prestigious awards for his work for communal harmony and world peace. He is not only been invited by the Indian universities but also by world's famous universities.
The topic of Sister Mary's thesis is "The Contribution of Asghar Ali Engineer towards inter-religious dialogue for communal harmony". She was awarded degree by the University of Madras.

Dr. Asghar Ali Engineer was never a member of this board. He used to provide answer whenever a topic was reffred to him and an explaination was sought from him by Administration of this board.
Latest was his view on Inter-religious marriages as Laila had asked for it.
The news item I reproduced for you here were to know that healthwise Dr. Engineer is fine and as active as before only if you care to come out of your well and see the world outside.
