Living in America during these times

I am wondering about what people might be feeling about living in America during these times when there is constant threat of terrorism and the threat of a mushroom cloud appearing over the horizon.

Will democracy in Iraq alleviate these concerns? Will we in America ever be free of the threat of terrorism?

The blunt answer is, No. Like Arundhati Roy says, al qaida is al faida. Terrorism or any other pretext helps to keep the consumers (as opposed to citizens) permanently spooked.

I think the terrorist threat exists but is hyped considerably.

I think the muslim world is to some extent in conflict with itself. The Traditionalists vs the Modernists. A successful democracy in Iraq would probably enrage some traditionalists.

After 9/11 I tried imagining what I would do next if I were in charge of a terrorist group in the US. None of those things have happened yet I see the government promoted TV spots of them protecting things I would never consider attacking, like the Golden Gate Bridge. We are being played by the government.
