A S***** Little Country

What have any of the other countries in the Mid-East contributed to the
world other than hatred, intolerance and oppression of their own people;
especially women??

A SHITTY LITTLE COUNTRY?

The Middle East has been growing date palms for centuries. The average
tree is about 18-20 feet tall and yields about 38 pounds of dates a year.

Israeli date trees are now yielding 400 pounds/year and are short enough
to be harvested from the ground or a short ladder.

Israel the 100th smallest country, with less than 1/1000th of the world's
population, can lay claim to the following :

The cell phone was developed in Israel by Israelis working in the Israeli
branch of Motorola, which has its largest development center in Israel .

Most of the Windows NT and XP operating systems were developed by
Microsoft-Israel.

The Pentium MMX Chip technology was designed in Israel at Intel .

Both the Pentium-4 microprocessor and the Centrino processor were
entirely designed, developed and produced in Israel.

The Pentium microprocessor in your computer was most likely made in
Israel.

Voice mail technology was developed in Israel.

Both Microsoft and Cisco built their only R&D facilities outside the US
in Israel.

The technology for the AOL Instant Messenger ICQ was developed in
1996 by four young Israelis.

Israel has the fourth largest air force in the world (after the U.S, Russia
and China). In addition to a large variety of other aircraft, Israel's air force
has an aerial arsenal of over 250 F-16's. This is the largest fleet of F-16
aircraft outside of the U. S.

Israel's $100 billion economy is larger than all of its immediate neighbors
combined.

Israel has the highest percentage in the world of home computers per
capita.

According to industry officials, Israel designed the airline industry's most
impenetrable flight security. US officials now look (finally) to Israel for
advice on how to handle airborne security threats.

Israel has the highest ratio of university degrees to the population in the
world.

Israel produces more scientific papers per capita than any other nation
by a large margin - 109 per 10,000 people --as well as one of the highest
per capita rates of patents filed.

In proportion to its population, Israel has the largest number of startup
companies in the world. In absolute terms, Israel has the largest number
of startup companies than any other country in the world, except the U.S.
(3,500 companies mostly in hi-tech).

With more than 3,000 high-tech companies and startups, Israel has the
highest concentration of hi-tech companies in the world -- apart from the
Silicon Valley, U.S.

Israel is ranked #2 in the world for venture capital funds right behind the U.S.

Outside the United States and Canada, Israel has the largest number of
NASDAQ listed companies.

Israel has the highest average living standards in the Middle East.

The per capita income in 2000 was over $17,500, exceeding that of the UK.

On a per capita basis, Israel has the largest number of biotech startups.

Twenty-four per cent of Israel's workforce holds university degrees, ranking
third in the industrialized world, after the United States and Holland and
12 per cent hold advanced degrees.

Israel is the only liberal democracy in the Middle East.

In 1984 and 1991, Israel airlifted a total of 22,000 Ethiopian Jews (Operation
Solomon) at Risk in Ethiopia, to safety in Israel.

When Golda Meir was elected Prime Minister of Israel in 1969, she became
the world's second elected female leader in modern times.

When the U. S. Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya was bombed in 1998, Israeli
rescue teams were on the scene within a day -- and saved three victims from
the rubble.

Israel has the third highest rate of entrepreneurship -- and the highest rate
among women and among people over 55 - in the world.

Relative to its population, Israel is the largest immigrant-absorbing nation on
earth. Immigrants come in search of democracy, religious freedom, and
economic opportunity. (Hundreds of thousands from the former Soviet Union)

Israel was the first nation in the world to adopt the Kimberly process, an
international standard that certifies diamonds as "conflict free."

Israel has the world's second highest per capita of new books.

Israel is the only country in the world that entered the 21st century with a
net gain in its number of trees, made more remarkable because this was
achieved in an area considered mainly desert.

Israel has more museums per capita than any other country.

Medicine... Israeli scientists developed the first fully computerized,
no-radiation, diagnostic instrumentation for breast cancer.

An Israeli company developed a computerized system for ensuring proper
administration of medications, thus removing human error from medical
treatment. Every year in U. S. hospitals 7,000 patients die from treatment
mistakes.

Israel's Given Imaging developed the first ingestible video camera, so small
it fits inside a pill. Used to view the small intestine fro the inside, cancer and
digestive disorders .

Researchers in Israel developed a new device that directly helps the heart
pump blood, an innovation with the potential to save lives among those with
heart failure. The new device is synchronized with the camera helps doctors
diagnose heart's mechanical operations through a sophisticated system of
sensors.

Israel leads the world in the number of scientists and technicians in the work
force, with 145 per 10,000, as opposed to 85 in the U. S., over 70 in Japan,
and less than 60 in Germany. With over 25% of its work force employed in
technical professions. Israel places first in this category as well.

A new acne treatment developed in Israel, the Clear Light device, produces
a high-intensity, ultraviolet-light-free, narrow-band blue light that causes acne
bacteria to self-destruct -- all without damaging surrounding skin or tissue.

An Israeli company was the first to develop and install a large-scale
solar-powered and fully functional electricity generating plant, in southern
California's Mojave desert.

All the above while engaged in regular wars with an implacable enemy that
seeks its destruction, and an economy continuously under strain by having
to spend more per capita on its own protection than any other county on
earth.

. .. . . AND THE FRENCH AMBASSADOR IN ENGLAND SAYS :

ISRAEL IS NOTHING BUT A SHITTY LITTLE COUNTRY!

Israel just attacked and destroyed an innocent city of Beirut. They killed 1500 innocent civilians and got beaten by a tin cans and ball bearings. Israel was also responsible for the intelligence that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction which resulted in the destruction of an innocent nation, the death of hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians and the loss of livelihood of millions.

Israel is also responsible for the world's largest population of refugees living under the most inhumane conditions for the largest amount of time.

If all that you have said is true about Israel then they were wrong. Israel is definitely strong in many other aspects which should be taken heed to and used to become better.

I'm always at a loss when it comes to responding to such nationalistic, chest-puffing diatribe. (And it seems you are not even a Jew or Israeli.) In any case, such drooling awe for worldly achievements is a result of a particular worldview that is narrowly focused and is based solely on material compass - biggest, richest, best etc. etc. - as if all this exists and is achieved in a vacuum, as if there are no consequences, no side-effects, no victims. What is missing is the moral calculus.

Israel this and Israel that, Jews this and Jews that. Such an attitude sickens me to the bone. My impulsive reaction to this laundry list of feats was: "So what!" But the people who approvingly post such material also tend to think that such a reaction must necessarily be prompted by jealousy, or hatred or some such base emotion.

But I really don't care what you may make of this. Israel's achievements, such as the are, are only one aspect of its reality. The most important part of that reality is that there would be no Israel today but for the myth it was founded upon. Thanks to Zionism and its colonial enablers the British, French and the Americans, Israel was created on a Palestinian land from which most of its inhabitants were massacred, driven away, exiled. This must be perhaps the most tragic case in history of loss and dispossession. Till date Israel continues to destroy Palestinian homes and lives with impunity - against all international law, conventions and UN resolutions.

Israel receives annual aid package of $3 billion from the US (more than $134 billion since 1949) - a huge gift for a tiny country, and that might partly explain its economic success, and its F-16s, the best air force and such. And, interestingly, the writer forgot to mention that it is the only country in the Mideast with nuclear weapons. (I can't imagine what sane mind would feel proud of having the biggest, largest or whatever killing machine and of possessing weapons of mass destruction.)

Israel is for all intents and purposes a military democracy, a theocracy. Okay they have elections, but it's the military that calls the shots. Democracies - liberal or not - everywhere are facades, more devious, more insidious, more manipulative, more complex than a straightforward dictatorship. This is not to approve of dictatorship, but contrast it with “realâ€

Please understand, I'm not trying to belittle Israel’s "achievements" but just trying to put them in proper context - that Israel's successes are not due to some inner, nationalistic genius that's unique to Israel or Jews. There are historical and economic factors that contribute to its success. Its successes must be balanced with its ruthless occupation of Palestinian and other Arab lands and its colonisation and ethnic-cleansing of Palestinian people. Its worldly achievements must be balanced against its moral failures. You can't consider the former without taking into account the latter. In other words, Israel may have gained the world, but has lost its soul.
Of course there are reasons for everyone's success and yes it is also common to blame people who are succesfful. I guess that is the price of success. In my opinion, judging who has lost their soul is nobody's right.

What I am trying to point out is Arabs, and Muslims inspite of all their wealth, could not, cannot, and will not achieve anything -- because of how they behave.

Muslims must cbange and be more accepting and tolerant.

The accomplishments of Israel are admirable, Islam and Muslims can and should learn from its successes. Occupation, suppression and ethnic cleansing are not unique to Israel but an ongoing and acceptable phenomenon in Muslim countries around the globe. It is ironic that that the Arab-Israelis who indeed live as second class citizens, enjoy more freedoms than Palestinian refugees in Jordan or Saudi Arabia. In Saudi Arabia, even its own citizens don’t have the rights of the second class Arab-Israelis.

In no way is this post meant to justify the brutal aggression and occupation of Palestine by the Israelis. However, as we see Islamic fundamentalists currently seeking “independenceâ€

Israel is a cancer on the face of this earth. However this is not to belittle Israeli achievements.

Israel is a country that has thrived only on death, destruction and terrorising it's neighbours. However, this does not in anyway take anything away from their accomplishments.

The dictator Arabs are the best American friends as long as they keep supplying them oil, however this in no way tries to belittle the fact that they are dictators.

I think I am beginning to like this game.

The Arabs are the most brutal of dictators having their citizenry live in fear, however this is no way belittles the fact that without their steady and cheap supply of oil to America, America would not have been the most developed country in the world, and wouldn't have been able to give the help to Israel to terrorize it's neighbours, however this in no way belittles Israeli achievements.

Dear Anajmi:

So why did the Arabs give away a commodity that was so valuable so cheaply? If they understood business and economics and had the education, they would have made the right deals and would be more powerful.

Touche my friend.

enlightenedone,

You are attempting to use pure economic common sense to a passionate audience. With oil at record levels per barrel even China and India are registering record economic growth let alone the mature economies of Europe and America. The Western Democracies currently have wind and solar power technologies but why use it when you can grow in spite of it while depleting a primitive, hostile and unstable region with the only reason they have to engage in chest-puffing diatribe ? It is not a renewable resource so it is prudent to use it first and let them run out, knowing that the ability for alternative fuels or research is non-existent in these countries.

The Arabs have successfully brain washed non-Arab Muslims into taking pride for Arab oil while these same Muslims are imported to clean their homes and starved into running Camel races in Dubai. The poor and uneducated Muslim countries such as Pakistan and Bangladesh do not pay for their oil; it is donated, along with the exportation of Wahabism and Madrasas which teach the pride of “Muslim oilâ€

enlightenedone,

I have said it before and will say it again for the benefit of Average Morons, if the Arabs had half the brains the rest of us have, they would've been ruling the earth.

The Arabs are bad, the Americans and the Israelis are worst, as they are the most powerful and have good economic and business sense and still have caused more misery than all the Arab countries put together. Tells you something about being smart and powerful doesn't it?

As far as the moronic economic sense is concerned, look at the war in Iraq and the war in Lebanon. Now that makes economic sense to morons!!

Dear Anajmi:

Morality and Intellect are independent variables. It appears, sometimes they are inversely proportional.

The discussion here is not about how Americans and Jews are bad -- some people on the board take pleasure in doing that.

It is about how Arabs and Muslims can become better. So do not copy the bad things that Amnericans and Jews have. Copy the good things and become better.

There is no point in spending energy in saying Jews and Americans are the worst. It does not do us any good.

Making generalized statements about how Americans and Jews are bad is not going to get you to a position in the world where you will be respected. Respect is earned by doing the right things.

enlightenedone,

One question I have is, why do the Arabs and Muslims have to become better when there are those that are worst and have a real need to become better? These nations have been causing untold miseries to people all over the world. I think we should concentrate our energies on making them better. What do you say?

Re: A S***** Little Country

Anajmi,

The answer is very elementary. First focus your energy and apparent need for justice on your own leaders and society; hold them accountable to the same standards as the "foreigners". Free your lands from the crutches of dependence on God, Dictator, America, clergy , or societal edict and enforce personal accountability and focus on secular education. Once you have established a high standard of Muslim on Muslim justice, tolerance and respect, fight those foreigners that attempt to take it away from you.

Agree on what is a Muslim first, and not blindly with Muslim First.

Ok everyone--

The article is a lie -- Americans and Israelis are bad -- Muslims and Arabs are great -- oh sorry they are not great they are bad but Jews and Americans are worse == I guess my point is made -- this is the reason why we are where we are...

It is good to be positive about who you are .. but it is not so good to be unrealistic about who you are.

See the public opinion, see where you stand and act accordingly. Hate and Anger are not going to accomplish anything

If you all want to do something constructive -- argue on what Muslims can do to be something -- not whehter Israel is number one or two. The point is how to get Arabs and Muslims to where they are number 1 or 2. Without hate and anger. We waste all our energy in trying to put the other person down not pull orselves up.

If you look at the board -- most posts are about how someone is bad instead of how should we improve -- most posts are "adrenalin" based not cognitive based.

We cannot improve anything unless we eliminate emotion.

Dear Mulsim First:

Great article.

Good relationships are not based on one party being obligated to another. In fact good relationships are one where criticism of one another is OK.

Good relationships offer value to the other party and that is why the relationship exists. So even though Israel hates America and maybe Americans hate Israel -- it is not about love and hate and being obligated to the other -- it is about value.

In a free market if what is said in the article is happening then there is a reason. Again, emotion is not the answer.

enlightenedone,

You are right, emotion is not the answer. How about this, since you chose not to answer my questions, I will suggest this, why don't you concentrate on making Arabs and Muslims better and I will concentrate on making the Americans and Israelis see the error of their ways and make them better?

Average,

I think it is time you realised that most problems in the Muslim lands have to do with American and Israeli involvement, whether you like it or not, you might make claims of it being emotion and passion taking the place of reason and all that crap, but that is the simple truth. And as long as we have people like you who think that to deny the right of Palestinian Refugees to return to their lands is a masterful tactic, it doesn't matter how good the Arabs and the Muslims are, they will always be in danger of being killed or murdered.

Everything else you mention is nothing but a distraction. Do yourself a favor (and us too) and start looking at the facts.

"Greatness" "fighting" "winning" by themselves are meaningless terms. I'm not sure whether one can have any intelligent conversation with you.
