Re: Why we do not call ourselves Muslims

If the question is--should we call ourselves "muslim" rather than other labels---my reply would be---do you submit your will to Allah?---if so, according to the Quran, you are muslim, if not, you are not a "muslim" in that the word "muslim" means one who submits (to God). The Quran says that Prophet...

Re: why we were stoped of reading Quran with translation

FROM ARAB TIMES KUWAIT CITY, Aug 22: One of the important causes for the decadence of the Islamic community is deviation from the path of Ijtihad, or critical thinking, in the approach to understanding the Holy Quran and the prophetic traditions, says Prof S. Waqar Ahmed Husaini, Founder of Institut...

Re: Punnishment fit the crime

It is my understanding that the just war principles were further developed by muslim scholars and jurists of early Islam. Many of these ideas ---which were later translated---ended up in the Geneva conventions of today. (according to the theory of some scholars of history)

Re: Punnishment fit the crime

Aareef You bring up some interesting points---In that what if our intentions are good but the result is bad? I am sure that Allah is compassionate and merciful if we are sincerely repentent of the bad results of our actions. As to Osama, I don't know what is or is not in his heart---nor do I care to...

But if he knowingly and with intention wanted to cause harm to innocent people---it would be MURDER and against the Quran (and Allah) and as Allah knows what is in the hearts of all, no amount of verbal arguments will justify the deed---right?

Re: Punnishment fit the crime

As I understand it(and I could be wrong), the principle qualities mentioned repeatedly regarding Allah, is that he is just, compassionate and merciful. Thus, those who go to hell are those who truly deserve to do so. According to Surah 15, verse 44 (?) there are 7 gates to hell with different class ...

Re: Why we do not call ourselves Muslims

I find "halal" labels useful. The Jews also have their "Kosher" stuff. For example, in Japan, muslims cannot eat cereal because breakfast cereals are fortified with vitamins and vitamin A is made out of pig!!! The muslim association of Japan found this out and warned the muslim community. The reason...

The problem with U.S.--as I understood it, was "debt-spending"---that is, one of the tools that a government uses to regulate "spending" is interest rates and when interest rates are reduced, spending is encouraged with easy access loans---particularly "plastic". ---so people spend what they do not ...

Re: Martin Luther inspired Adolf Hitler

Does history repeat itself?

Intolerance and hate are dangerous paths to travel. We (muslims too) can all learn from history the effects it has.

We can all do our part, small though it may be, to promote tolerance, compassion, and mercy in Islam.

Martin Luther inspired Adolf Hitler

In 1917, German Protestants celebrated the 400th anniversary of the posting of Martin Luther's 95 Theses. Although the intention was to revive interest in the church, this event became the vehicle for an idolatry of Luther as a German hero, and as an incarnation of the German spirit. Later, when Hit...

I read a similar article some time ago which gave more details about Egypt's harrasment issue. Apparently, the reporter asked a few men why they participated in harrasment, and they replied that they were "bored". Anyway, the article went on to mention that most all foreign victims of harrasment rep...

Punishments--Surah 16, v126---And if you punish, let your punishment be porpotionate t...

Torah in hebrew apparently means "guide" Bible apparently comes from the greek word biblios which means "book" and Quran (I think) means "recite" or "recitation".

I guess the easiest definition of all these would be "revelation"?
