What is the story behind haraam machi?

What is the story behind haraam machi?

I have always wondered what is the story behind haraam machi? We all know that the present daawat is all about making money, so why would they introduce things like don't eat fish without Bismillah. Is it just another way to control lives or is there another story behind this? Surprisingly, a christian sect called seven-day adventists also believe in this and the rules are very similar to what we hear in our bayaans, like fish without scales is prohibited, seafood such as octopus, eels etc are forbidden. So the question that arises is why are general muslims not so concerned about this?
