Re: woman status in muffadal saiffudin raj
Yeah but "a simple salaam" by a woman to a Shehzada still requires hand holding right? I thought a salaam was the whole right eye, left eye, forehead, kiss, routine... No? How is that Islamic between a man and a woman? It's ok to do so to rutba na Saheb because they are our spiritual parents. But a Shehzada? Yuck!
The point being that if it is unislamic than why are the zadas not stopping the women?

Re: woman status in muffadal saiffudin raj
i totally agree this is a purely purely purely unislamic and unethical practice and by the way female folks in my family never ever participate in these activities which i recommend for other ladies in our community as well because the shahzadas are non mehram and they have no right to hold the hands of a namehrum woman

Succession controversy[edit]
Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin suffered a stroke in a London hospital in year 2011, after which Mufaddal Saifuddin was proclaimed by his brothers as the successor in a London Hospital followed by a ceremony in Mumbai, while the Syedna was still in the state of full stroke.[1][2] It was reported that at home the Dawoodi Bohra community were surprised yet welcomed the name of Mufaddal as the proclaimed successor as informed to them.[3] However, Muffadal Saifuddin's succession has not been accepted by Khuzaima Qutbuddin, the second in command to Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin, who claimed the title of the 53rd Dā'ī l-Muṭlaq of the Dawoodi Bohras.[4] Khuzaima Qutbuddin claims that Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin performed nass on him 49 years ago, a ritual during which he appointed him as his successor.[5] He and his sons based on a medical review report claims that the succession was not done in London as Mohammad Burhanuddin suffered from a full stroke at the age of 100 that made it difficult for him to write, speak, or move.[6][7] [8] . A recent medical review report on succession issue of Mufaddal [9] by Daniel Mankens, chairman of Neurology Beaumont Hospital, Michigan reviews that "It is inconceivable that someone his age and with neurological deficits would have such a profound, yet transient recovery," .Mankens further said that family members usually report even the slightest improvement to medical staff. "It surprises me that such an event would not be documented in the medical record, much less reported to the medical staff," . The former Chief Justice of India , AM Ahmadi, in his personal stand, upheld the validity of Khuzaima Qutbuddin as the rightful successor.[10]
"Syedna Qutbuddin’s family had shared certain historical documents with me, some of which are written in Arabic, in which historical facts about the community and the events since the nass (choosing the successor) conferred by Syedna Burhanuddin on Syedna Qutbuddin in 1965 have been recorded. I examined the documents and believe that Syedna Qutbuddin’s stand of the 53rd Dai is principled,"
—Ahmadi, The former Chief Justice of India
Forced Allegiance[edit]
There are various reports that Mufaddal has taken over the administration using threat and intimidation[11]. Also the Bohras who support Khuzaima are being forced to swear allegiance to Muffadal using social boycott and threats of divorce between married couples[62] :.
Sakina’s husband was okay with her belief in Qutbuddin, but the local jamaat insisted that she leave her marital home. Her in-laws and husband succumbed. The second woman, a professional, had just had her nikaah solemnised; now, her in-laws have told her to choose between her belief and her husband.

Ceremony Video[edit]
The video of the alleged succession (nuss) ceremony is available.[12] The original video was uploaded on Youtube[13] but was later removed on accusation of copyright violation by Jameat Saifiya currently under control of Mufaddal. However the video has been available in other places.[14] [15] The sons of Khuzaima claim the video was uploaded by them showing that nothing conceivable was uttered in that ceremony to prove that no formal announcement to the effect had been made by the late Syedna[16][17]
Press Conference declares Neutral Stance[edit]
A press conference was organised by Central Board of Dawoodi Bohra Community which is represented by intellectuals in the community recommended taking a neutral stance in wake of the succession controversy, not taking side of any of the claimants.[18]:
"Over the last ten days we have been witness to the ugly dispute over the right successor to the late Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin Saheb. This was not unexpected, as the late Syedna Saheb had been unable to clearly nominate his successor for nearly 50 years while he was alive. The claim of both his so-called successors is shrouded in mystery and ambiguity, as there are no reliable and disinterested witnesses to their nomination. The community is therefore both in a dilemma and distress, and is greatly agitated. For nearly 200 years there was no such problem, as the succession was monopolized within one family, with either the brother or the son being nominated by his predecessor. However, now, the stakes are quite high. An unbelievably large amount of wealth has been accumulated over the last hundred years through extortion and exploitation. The dispute is, therefore, not religious as claimed by both the claimants, but for the control of this wealth. Nathwani and Tewatia Commissions in the 1970s and 1990s have fully documented the various modes of this accumulation, and how this wealth is spent on the luxurious lifestyle of one family, and not for the benefit of the community. The Central Board warns both the claimants that if they do not change with the changing times, become liberal, stop malpractices and loosen their control over a docile and peaceful community, they will be consigned to the dustbins of history."

Court Case against Mufaddal[edit]
Late Syedna's half brother Khuzaima moved High Court claiming the position of 53rd dai and to restrict Mufaddal from discharging the duties as the 53rd Dai. The prime contention of the 700-page petition to high court is to have Khuzaima Qutbuddin, the half brother, legally declared as the 53rd Dai-al-Mutlaq of the 12-lakh strong Bohra community, and simultaneously to restrain his nephew, Mufaddal Saifuddin, from acting as the Dai[19] .

Re: woman status in muffadal saiffudin raj
Remember the dress our ladies used to wear about 30 years back and even outside the house it used to be a Ghaghra and petticoat the worst in ladies dresses i would say and women folks used to wear it without any hesitation as it was a norm in those days, it is said that this dress was forcefully given by laeen Aurangzeb and was one of the many attrocities on bohra people, i have heard that troops of aurangzeb came into momins mohallah having a ghaghra and petticoat hanging on the tip of a stick and they ordered that from that day all bohra ladies should wear this dress so that they could be recognized, it was adopted as a permanent attire even after the downfall of mughals however it looked horrible with huge buldging bellies, Rida is nodoubt a very respectable piece of clothing which fulfills both the purpose of hijaab and fashion, before this particular form of rida i remember some ladies of our community used to wear the black gown, among the non bohra ladies abaaya is very much in fashion but somehow it sticks to the body and doesnot serve the true purpose of hijab, our rida is the true form of the veil used by old syrians except that they used it in single color like black brown or blue, as the rida is in two parts it flows and does not entangle with the body, in the end i would like to say that this Rida is one of the hasanaats of Syedna Mohammad Burhanuddin Moulas period.

Re: woman status in muffadal saiffudin raj
For once I totally agree with you Salaar. However MS managed to screw that up for us as well. There was a rida maraaz conducted under auspicies of MS that prescribed the exact kind of rida that was condoned. It basically only condoned the kind of rida where women either looked like giant walking flowerpots or like walking tents made out of table cloths.... Any leeway a woman was taking to make herself more presentable was being taken away, even though it did not interfere with the concept of the rida or her ability to do purdah. For instance we were told not to wear a rida where the top and the bottom were made out of different fabrics. So for instance if you wore a striped beige bottom, you could not top it off with a plain beige top. REALLY?!
What kind of a Moula gets into that kind of nitty gritty? We were told explicitly key Mufaddal Mula ne fulan fulan rida pasand nathi...
Anyway Salaar, I'd like you to spend one day in a rida and then begin to sing it's praises. The string under the chin is a constant source of irritation and if the top if poufy, tends to catch the wind and rise up. It is not an easy outfit to wear even though it looks pretty when worn right. So it should definitely be a woman's choice and the husband should not be allowed to throw his wife out of the house because she does not wear a rida! While a rida is preferable, there are other ways to dress modestly and fulfill the hijab prescribed by the Quran...

Re: woman status in muffadal saiffudin raj
i dont understand why people make things so cumbersome and difficult that ordinary folks run away from them, the real objective is hijaab now what difference it makes if top and bottom is made out of same or different fabrics i mean yes it can be a persons own preference but why make it a rule of thumb you know i would love to go and say my namaz in masjids but because of the dress code iam restricted, they say you can come in colored clothes but it looks awkward when you are the only one not in pehran izaar anyway i agree that these small things should be overlooked.

These people who call themselves religious leaders are none other than Hindu converts who have made mockery of Islam. And now they need petitions for their support. These group of robbers and dictators need reinforcements of non-muslims to acknowledge them.....lol......
Re: woman status in muffadal saiffudin raj
Enslavement of both men and women, that is the mission and vision of MS. Over the years his father has been successful and now he has taken the lead to deprive women their dignity and right to be a free human.
Re: woman status in muffadal saiffudin raj
these are social issues, many religious groups have their own dress code like sikhs wearing a kilo turban on their heads and growing hairs from all sides. dawate islami and other muslim groups wearing multi color turbans and unsmart shalwar kameez their women covering themselves fro head to toe, hindus moving half naked and so on, even here we have rigidity in dress but at the same time communities do that considering it as their identity.
Re: woman status in muffadal saiffudin raj
I remember when this 'farman' was issued and I had recently had 4 new ridas stiched in smart combinations of print and plain!!! Mufaddal bhaisaab's term for these ridas is 'fashion ni rida'. I personally prefer the simple elegant ridas over the overtly decorated ridas with 3D flowers by the dozen! But its a matter of personal taste. Let the woman who has to wear the rida decide what she prefers!think_for_yourself wrote: For instance we were told not to wear a rida where the top and the bottom were made out of different fabrics. Re: woman status in muffadal saiffudin raj
i know after this post i will get stones from all sides but still i would register my view point about the ethics of women as described by SMS, since the tone was too strong we missed the message and started arguing about the words. you see world is going fast, fast and fast, in developed countries they said well what when a man divorces his wife she is left stranded, some rules should be made about it then they started squeezing the conditions for divorce and what happened now men and even women are willingly maintaining relationships without getting into the bond, where has your wisdom lead you into where is the respect for women now men has the liberty to kick her out like a dog anytime he wants. similarly with the advent of smart phones and other gadgets the interaction between boys and girls has risen so much that wherever you see them they are lost in their cell phones and very often they get indulged into dangerous situations and become victim of black mailers which is so common.About roti i remember my grandma and later my mom while preparing roti they would sprinkle some honey and give it to us, i still miss that taste and that love, these are the values for our women, now you have to be very clear it does not mean that our girls should not be sent to universities or they should not go for jobs if they can afford to fulfill their other responsibilities, what iam trying to say is that a balance has to be maintained and let our women move with the world in all respects but at the same time they should take great care of their modesty, understand their religious values and the role that God has given to them, this is something like walking on a roap in todays world but it is something that we will have to ponder about.

What kind of a Moula gets into that kind of nitty gritty? We were told explicitly key Mufaddal Mula ne fulan fulan rida pasand nathi...
Those Ridas with the 3D flowers are simply horrendous. I am reminded of the time I heard my little daughter giggling only to turn around and see this muminaat dressed in a Rida with 3D HIDEOUS PLASTIC flowers stitched all over it. She looked liked a walking talking garden!! I myself could not control my guffaw. Saying that though I agree, it is ones personal taste. Cannot imagine anyone in my family wear these overtly loud ones though. There is elegance in simplicity and a well designed one can make a woman look gracious and sweetly charming.

one of my cousin in gujarat makes these color ful ridas, and I always ask him, if he really understands concept of hijaab, and if he knows that these ridas are more attractive than other clothes?
I prefer and vote for black muslim dresses as ridas.

I totally agree with you. Personally I find the rida very uncomfortable and I don't wear it unless left with no choice. I don't think a woman should be forced to wear a rida. just as a man shouldn't be forced to keep a beard. (I didn't throw my husband out even though he doesn't have a beardthink_for_yourself wrote: The string under the chin is a constant source of irritation and if the top if poufy, tends to catch the wind and rise up.
