expression of emotions

The one and only free public forum for Bohras. The focus of this forum is the reform movement, the Dawoodi Bohra faith and, of course, the corrupt priesthood. But the discussion is in no way restricted to the Bohras alone.

can some one explain why all the mumineen have to perform matam of Imam Hussain on this joyous occassion of syedna's 93rd birthday. Everywhere , specially in th U.S. where majlis was relayed from Karachi, everybody did purjosh matam on this happy celebration. Is matam the way for one to express joy?

My friend, there are only TWO things in Bohras - Matam and Jaman and offcourse we are an Aman-Pasand community. Syedana needs somthing to bind bohras other than his figure too - i mean he needs a) to prove he is 'something' and can do and deliver 'everything' BUT he needds some ground or basis for that - Imam Hussain and his Dai...!!!! very few would point finger to Imam Hussain, so he is the Dai.... to keep reminding us and reinvest that idea there is Matam..!!! even on his birthday - he claims he is Dai of Imam Hussain and he says pray we should not have any Gums except Gum-e-Hussain. To reinforce that idea, there has to be Matam - Matam rejuvinates and establishes a point. You keep on doing Matam and the idea is reinforced - who is leading you and guiding you to such a noble deed - the Dai... so FOLLOW him blindly, PAY him blindly and be Abde-Syedana - a shame, how can one be AbdeSyedana - meaning Syedana ka Bunda..!!! we are all Bunde-Khuda.... may be they want to say SLAVE of Syedana, so we are...!!!! Noble deed of Matam here is being used to perpetuate power, lust for power, greed for money. They say Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. The current so-called Dai is Absolutely Corrupt.

As one of our non-Muslim Indian friends said of the Bohris:

"Bohri mayn Khannay, Pinnay, Sonnay or Poor Josh Maatam karnnay kay siva koy achhi cheez hay?".

Anajami,

Too good ...!!!!

I have seen Bohras after immediately doing Matam (or during Matam) - all smiles as if having fun... and God, after it, they all rush for Jaman and listen to what they talk during Jaman.... everything other than Matam. It has just become a habit or Dai wants it to become, may be it is a tool (may be for future) to keep the fools tied to his so-called spiritual leadership.... after all, these people are clevver...
