But does it have to be registered as a trust in Aus...
Don't contributions made towards overseas charities count as being tax deductible? because when there are natural disasters overseas we make payments to international charities and those are tax deductible?

Re: Dawat e Hadiya trust UK
When I was paying my Sabeel and Wajebaats, I did receive a receipt in early January preceding the year and they were always timely and correct. I used to get two receipts. one from Dawat-e-Hadiyah (USA)
for Wajebaats and Fitra and other from local Jamaat for Sabeel.
Currently I am not Sabeel or Wajebaat paying member

In Canada you only get the tax deduction receipt for Sabeel and any contribution you make to the local Jamaat (contribution for Jaman, Sayedna's Welcome fund etc.) but no receipts for payments made to Dawat-E-Hadiya (Zakaat, Sila-Fitra).omabharti wrote:When I was paying my Sabeel and Wajebaats, I did receive a receipt in early January preceding the year and they were always timely and correct. Why does Sila fitra amount keep going up rapidly every year?

Bro. bohra_manus:
Slight correction: From March, 2009 in Toronto jamaat, no receipt is issued for whatever payment. The Anjuman e Burhani has stopped filing tax returns so that they now have no compulsion to account for any amount they receive or spend.

OK, thanks for the update Bro.canadian wrote:Bro. bohra_manus:

That means Anjuman-e-Burhani is no longer a charitable org?
Re: Dawat e Hadiya trust UK
It is no more a charitable organization. I will not be surprised if all the other jamats in North America also opt out of charitable status; thus they do not have to worry about proper accounting standards or about pilfering funds.bohra_manus wrote:canadian wrote:Bro. bohra_manus:

OzzieB if the charity is not registered in Au you cannot claim deductions speak to your accountant.
Why would the taxman sacrifise Au tax for international charities ? But if the charity is Au based eg VisioAid then yes you can.
Also if Dawaat Hadiya was registered as charity there are laws here where they have to keep proper accounts and make them public.
