The recipients of Zakaat, according to Qur'an are as follows:
"Alms are for the poor and the needy, and those employed to administer (the funds); for those whose hearts have been (recently) reconciled (to truth); for those in bondage and in debt; and for the wayfarer: (Thus is it) ordained by Allah, and Allah is full of Knowledge and Wisdom." (Qur'an 9:60)

Now, those who have the misguided tenacity to argue with the Quran, should take note. Read Quran's lips.

It says alms (zakaat) are for for those employed to administer (the funds) among others.

Others you can safely ignore. Now what is most important is who is employed to administer the funds. It is the Dai, of course. Oh, he has delegated this task to kothar, because infallible and omnicient though he is, he chooses not to display such extraordinary powers lest his folowers are overcome with awe.

So get this. You heard from the Quran itself.. The alms are for the Dai, solely employed by God and Imam-in-hiding to collect the tax.

So just shut up and pay up.

Those employed to administer the funds refers to the administration costs in distributing the money. That is, if the money is distributed in the first place. So unless the dai can show how he is distributing and administering the money, the argument is invalid.

Others you can safely ignore.

Unfortunately one cannot pick and choose which parts of the Quran to accept and which to ignore.

That is an interpretation. Quran actually says that "as-sadaqaat lil-amileen". Does not mention anythiong about the "cost of distribution". Oh, Quran also states that sadaqaa (zakaat) is meant for me, as I am burdened with debt too.

Oh yes, you can. Its been done for centuries. Don't you ever listen to the vaiz? Ismailies (Bohras and Aga Khanis) have taken this art to great sophistication. C'mon Porus - when people are "employed to administer" funds - that forms part of the cost of collecting and distributing them.

However we have to remember that the Dai is not supposed to be an employee, cause if an employee turns out to be corrupt, he/she can be kicked out.

If you read carefully the ayat you have quoted is post-collection and discusses about distribution of zakat.
The ayat which talks about collection is "Of their wealth, take alms so you may purify and bless them." It asks the prophet to collect zakat. It is our aqida that the rightful successor of Prophet was Maulana Ali, and the Imams and then the Daiis. For us the Daii is the rightful collector of Zakat.

Embezzlement: Breach of trust by appropriating funds for the benefits of the family.

If the payments were NOT valid they were invalid -unlawful, illegal and fraudulent. They got caught and were forced to reimburse the funds.
