Multy party democracy is evil-pastors
BY PHIWOKWAKHE NGIDI.
NGABEZWENI – His Majesty King Mswati III yesterday sided with pastors who said multi-party democracy is an evil we do not need in the country. The king said if multi-party democracy works for other countries, it does not mean that it would work for Swaziland.
He was responding to a topic raised by the League of Churches pastors which said “the disadvantages of multi-party democracy’ bubi bentsandvo yelinyenti.
“Democracy is a fashion and that is why they are talking about it all over the world but let us hold on to what is our own,” the king said.
“It is good that you have quoted verses from the Bible which do not support multi-party democracy. Although the whole world is preaching multi-party democracy, it does not mean that we have to follow them.
“We have our own way of doing things and multiparty democracy is not good for us because God gave us our own way of doing things,” the king said to a thunderous shout of ‘bayethe’ by the pastors.
He said we should all be thankful to the previous kings ad their councillors who were able to hold on to Swazi ways of doing things despite the winds of change that were sweeping across the globe.
Speaking before the king addressed the over 500 pastors, Mkhuluza Zwane, who dominated all topics raised, read from Proverbs 29 verse 13 and Matthew 27 verse 15.
He said majority rule was bad because people always make the wrong choices once allowed to choose.
He said for example when Pointus Pilate asked the people whom they wanted between Jesus Christ and well known notorious criminal Barabbas, they chose Barabas.
“Even when Moses was leading the Israelites to Canaan at one point they got disgruntled with him and the majority elected someone to lead them back to Egypt.
“When people are given the right to choose, they always choose evil because there are people who influence others on what to choose in order to achieve their own selfish goals.
“There are people who are sponsored to dethrone you, Your Majesty, and these are the people who advocate for multiparty democracy. The Bible says a king who safeguards the rights of the poor lives to rule for a very long time.
“There is not a single verse in the Bible that talks about a president. Who then need a president that is not recognised in the Bible?” he asked without expecting an answer.
Zwane said if people were given the choice between buying the king’s private jet and releasing alleged serial killer David Simelane, they would choose the men who is said to have killed 45 women and children.
He said those who toyi-toyi and engage in mass demonstrations are born from gay parents.
Pastor Khayeni Khumalo supported Zwane stating that they had read the Bible and found that there was nothing good about multiparty democracy in the bible.
He said whilst presidents are elected King Mswati III was born to rule this country hence anyone who wants multiparty democracy is directly challenging the king.
He said Christianity was brought into the country by King Mswati II after God had communicated with King Somhlolo.
“There is nowhere in the bible where God communicates with a president but everywhere the bible refers to kings,” Khumalo said.
“If we get a president we shall fail to answer before God if he asks us who allowed us to have a president.
“When Christianity came to the country God communicated to King Somhlolo and King Mswati II fetched missionaries. God never communicates with presidents and that is why everywhere in the bible they refer to kings and not even once do they refer to a president.
“It is a blessing for Swaziland that our king listens to God,” Khumalo said.
He read from Psalms 2 verses 7 to 12. Khumalo said God would destroy nations that do not have kings. He said presidents are like rapists who demand what does not belong to them.
“If the majority was allowed to choose between our king and a president they would opt for a president,” he said.
“That is why we do not need majority rule or multiparty democracy because people will make the wrong choices. The majority always fails to choose what is right,” Khumalo concluded.
