Moazija: Gulbarg Society in Ahmedabad
Moazija: Gulbarg Society in Ahmedabad
Interviews of people whose lives have been touched by the grace of
Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin Saheb, TUS
Following interview of Khozaimabhai Khambati, Ahmedabad, by Mudar Patherya:
Nineeten bungalows formed Gulbarg Society in Ahmedabad; nine belonged to
mumineen.
My story goes back to an afternoon in late February 2002 when riots
commenced in Ahmedabad at around one in the afternoon. Most people
exposed to the violence - from within the complex and outside - sought
refuge in the house of corporator Ehsan Jafri, the most influential man
in the vicinity. Some mumineen ran into our bungalow - facing Jafri's -
and especially my residence on the second floor.
We sneaked a quick look out of the window; the heart sank. A river of
people. Our lives were over. We did everything possible to merely delay
the inevitable. We locked the ground floor gate. We ran into the flat.
We shifted all the heavy furniture against the door. When you have 15
versus 5000, even these are as effective as fighting a tidal wave with
an oar.
My wife began reciting dua-e-nasre-wal-mahaaba. Some of the ladies
(nine) who had sought refuge in our flat sat in front of a picture of
Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin Saheb and implored, 'Havey humney aap aj
bachaavjo!' Other ladies kept reciting Ya Saiyyedas Shohadaai over and
over again accompanied by khaamosh maatam.
One didn't need to see to figure what was happening outside; one only
needed to hear. There was an incessant roar, sharp cries of 'Maaro
saalaao ne' and 'Kya chhupse?' and 'Nahi chhodiye aaj!', glass
shattering (as distinct from breaking!), several anguished cries of
help, the thud of metal on wood and the impact of assorted brick on
wall, door, window, roof and people. The crowd used bhaalas, spears,
acid bottles, sticks, hockey sticks and swords. You could be clubbed,
pasted, pierced or carved; death was inevitable.
Dear reader, your mind is probably 'reading' this sequentially; when
they played out in front of us, they happened combined. When you heard
that 'mixed' sound - even for just 10 seconds - you remembered your
Maker. If you think you have heard this kind of sound in a film then you
simply haven't. It is the kind of sound mix that still makes one wake up
in cold sweat even if one is in the security of a foreign country years
after having first heard it.
That fateful afternoon, every instant was like an hour. Would the door
break the next minute? Would I still be alive an hour later? Would my
clothes be the clothes I would die in? Was there any sense in guarding
our valuables any more? Was there anything left to be said to the wife
before someone ran a sword through me? Was there any message of aqeeda
to be conveyed mentally to the Dai of the day? Was there any call left
to make?
I did what was natural; I simply hugged my son and said 'Beta, havey
qayamat na din milsoo!'
Meanwhile, we established contact with Huzurala in Khandala; the
Shehzada saheb there asked us to immediately recite the azaan in four
directions out of the window. That would have been a giveaway; so we
sneaked to the window, crouched and whispered the azaan outside. And
then we continued to tune in to the sounds coming out of the other
bungalows of Gulbarg Society and interpret what it meant for us. And
then we waited. And waited. And waited.
When we heard the siren of the police jeep at around 5 in the afternoon
- exactly the moment that my wife finished the dua-e-nasre wal mahaaba,
probably the longest time she has taken in her life to finish it - we
felt there was some hope. When the police came to liberate us out of our
hiding place, our first question was: "Humney kem khabar padey ke tameyj
police chho?" We quietly crept out, threw out unexploded gas bottles,
hugged others who had survived ("arre, shukr ke tu bhi bachi gayo!") and
were then escorted out of our complex to the roza of Syedna Qutbuddin
Shaheed. What was a distance of five minutes took us three and a half
hours that evening.
Ninety nine out of 130 died in Gulbarg Society; almost every single
person in Ehsan Jafri's bungalow was either torched, speared or
dismembered; each limb of Ehsanhai himself was methodically chopped
before he was killed ...limbless. When the mob came to torch our bungalow,
they searched out the ground floor and found no one, they went to the
first floor and found no one and whereas they should have gone to the
second floor where they would have discovered their big catch, they
turned away in the mistaken assumption that it was a one-storey
structure (like others in the colony).
When 10,000 eyes cannot distinguish between a one storey and two-storey
structure, you have the evidence of the most visible mojezaa of Syedna
Mohammed Burhanuddin Saheb.

Re: Moazija: Gulbarg Society in Ahmedabad
As this was a very important event, thousands of muslims including bohras have lost their lives and livelihood. It is important that all seriousness be shown in describing any event, and only truth be told. When I went through this posting I was a bit skeptic, reason being that in 2003 one of my friend had asked us to help our bohras in surat, as jamat was not coming to the aid of those poor sufferers, so I tried to arrange some fund raising in toronto and we were able to raise nearly $5000.00. That amount was sent to surat and disbursed among the affectees.
There was mention of Ehsan Jaffer who was once congress mp from the area. But no body mentioned this event. The figures in above post is not correct. There were 38 people massacred and 21 poeple were saved in gulbarg society. Which was also reported in indian express http://cities.expressindia.com/fullstor ... sid=134480. Among the massacred and survived were some bohras too. Majority of them were non bohras.
it seems to me that this story is figment of imagination. But I regret to say that it is very inhumane and cruel to play with these emotions.
Let me remind you that sometimes back Gulf had posted telephone nos, when i called those numbers one was not exising, the other said he has nothing to do with that. He himself had admitted that he gave false nos. This was about syedna saheb travelling by helicopter in mumbai visiting to perform the inaugration of a gym or excercise place.
Gulf I would urge that you are actually doing disservice to dawat by posting false claims.

Re: Moazija: Gulbarg Society in Ahmedabad
First of all, dear gulf it is not "MOAZIJA", it is "MOAJIZA", I hope you truely knows the meaning of Moajiza, besides you pronounce and spell it wrong.(I also request the forum administration to correct this powerful and holy word)
Now I am coming to the facts, there were killing of 39 peoples and 22 were saved in Gulberg Society, according to one of the survivor Ahsan Elahi Bux, who recently visited Karachi, Pakistan and I had a chance to enquire him about the incident. He reported that there were 4 to 5 Bohras in all, rest were non bohras, " Khuda ka Moajiza ho gaya is karay waqt main, jab humnay safbandi karli aur khuda ko yad karnay lag gayay" this was stated by Ahsan Bux, a Sunni from Ahmedabad, according to him Bohras were also praying with them, praying to God, (not Aqa Maula, as mentioned in the post from Gulf) no bohra, no sunni, no shia etc. they all were Muslims reciting Quran in loud voices, one of the survivor got contacted to the wife of the sub Inspector of Shah Alam Thana and then the police got rescue of these people.
Dear Gulf you are requested not to print the fake stories inorder to bring happiness to your Kothari Fathers and also it is a very cheap way to get fame of a human being(Burhanuddin sb) by relating a Moajiza to him.

So they did not follow the FARMAN of Huzurala then why did they ask HUZURALA for his advice.
It also show how out of touch the Shezadas and Huaurala are from the reality on the ground.
Good story Gulp but it does not wash, either you made up the story or KOTHARIS DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE H--L THEY ARE DOING?

Re: Moazija: Gulbarg Society in Ahmedabad
It is sad that the tragic and horrified incident is used by gulf as propaganda tool.
Dear gulf will you please answer:
The bohras killed and looted in this incident all over Gujrat where not dearer to Sayedna! Why they were not saved? Is there a category that only privileged get dua of Sayedna!
Who is responsible to save other Muslims and Hindus who are fortunate to escape to save their lives? Why Sayedna is not taking that claim? Or if there is some other human beings are responsible to doing miracles in saving their lives, can we say that the Sayedna is not alone and there is a competitor!
Khozaimabhai Khambati, Mudar Patherya and Gulf are crooks or may be they have a child’s brain

In Mora village, all 106 homes belonging to members of the Bohra community have been destroyed. "A mob looted my father's cycle shop and burnt my husband's tailoring shop. I managed to break the window of my house and run out. My family of 14 stayed in a small bathroom for three days. We had no food or water. I used to hit my children and tell them to stay quiet. I refuse to go back there -- we will be killed. What will we do now?" wept Farida Abbasi Boliwalla, whose family has incurred a loss of Rs 900,000.Maqbool wrote:The bohras killed and looted in this incident all over Gujrat where not dearer to Sayedna! Another woman, preferring anonymity said that in the Godhra GIDC area, all factories of Muslims were burnt and looted in the presence of the police. There are several Bohra settlements in all parts of Panchmahals district where Godhra is located and the entire losses could amount to Rs 200 million, she said

Re: Moazija: Gulbarg Society in Ahmedabad
Herein below are some few gruesome instances wherein Bohras were at the recieving end during the mass genocide carried out by the saffron brigade under the leadership of Narendra Modi (Burhanudin saab's pal). Sadly there were no 'Mojizas' here which could save the bohras. This is an extract of the findings and report of "Peoples Union for Democratic Rights", New Delhi :-
(1) At Rainiya, they were attacked by a Tata Sumo containing 9 men equipped with swords, stones and iron pipes. Four people who had got down, all Bohras were killed and burnt. Two women – Zainab ben Burhanbhai Mulla Meetha, and Fatima Murtaza Gadbadawala – were also raped before being killed.
(2) Another mob numbering 500 attacked the shops owned by Bohra Muslims in the Vorvad area. The Bohras turned up to repulse the attack and stone pelting between the two continued for some time. A police party fired teargas shells at the Bohras to disperse them. Through the night 45 people from among the Bohras and 25 Muslims from the Kasba area were arrested.
(3) The shops burnt included the grand showroom of Harsoliya Motors owned by Bohras who have been in Himmatnagar for 9 generations. This is the first time that they have faced such an attack.
(4) Bohra Losses in Panchmahals and Dahod :
The Dawoodi Bohra Jamat Anjuman-e-Mohammedi Masjid estimates that Bohras of 54 villages in Panchmahals and Dahod districts have been affected. This amounts to 850 families, or 3500-4000 people. 7 Bohras have died, 150 have been injured and property loss is estimated at Rs. 70-75 crores. The Bohras dominate trade in and around Dahod, and almost all of them also have land. The Bohras are concentrated in hardware, wholesale grain and pulses trade and rice mills. Three large industries – Raj Foods, which makes cornflakes, 2 pulse mills and 1 plastic drum manufacturing unit have been completely destroyed. According to the Syedna, this is the first time there has been such a major attack, though there have been minor incidents before. Before the 1990s Ramjanmabhoomi movement, the attacks were economic in nature – with adivasis looting Bohra shops. In 1990, during Advani’s Rath yatra, 6 Bohra shops were burnt in Mullahji bazaar and Hanuman Bazaar in Dahod. Among villages Kua Jalgam, Mora, Rampur Kishenpur and Morwa-Hadap were badly affected, with 36 houses and
shops looted. In 1992, again there was looting in Mullahji bazaar.
The Bohras differentiate themselves from Ghanchis by insisting that they are peace loving and don’t want to file FIRs. According to the Bohras, they have good relations with the adivasis who are dependent on them for credit.
