fating at eid ul fitar nite

The one and only free public forum for Bohras. The focus of this forum is the reform movement, the Dawoodi Bohra faith and, of course, the corrupt priesthood. But the discussion is in no way restricted to the Bohras alone.

Omabharti,

What bro. banda e khuda stated is quite true and Iam aware of this ritual in bohra community atleast since the past 40 odd years. How old is this custom is something which Iam not aware of and I personally feel that it is not within the framework of Shariah.

Fasting six days of the month of Shawwal is mentioned in a Prophetic hadith. The Prophet (S.A.W.) is reported to have said: "Whosoever fasted in Ramadan and then followed up with six fasting days of Shawwal, it is like fasting every day." (Muslim)

The meaning is that the reward is like the reward of a person who is always in fast every day of his/her life.

It is highly recommended to fast six days of the month of Shawwal, but it is not obligatory. Those who want to fast can fast after `Eid Al-Fitr any six days during Shawwal.

It is not required to fast six days continuously without any interruption. One can fast according to convenience any time during the month.

HOWEVER, BOHRAS FAST ONLY FOR ONE DAY IMMEDIATELY AFTER EID AND THEY CALL IT "VIDA NU ROZU"

I have been doing this fast since i was a child. We would go to sleep at about 11 p.m. after taking a chapati and some gravy along with water. You break the fast after Fajr prayers as you break the normal fasts after Maghrib. I don't know if readers are aware that D. bohras break fast after salat and not before it as Sunni muslims do the world over.

There are a lot of bohra rituals that some bohras will conveniently lay at the feet of Hazrat Ali.

No, what I am saying is that some bohras might lay it all on Hazrat Ali's feet. I am not the one laying it on Hazrat Ali's feet.

No, It is not done on the basis of hadiths of Nabi (s.a.w.) because as per the hadith one has to fast for 6 days in shawwal but bohras fast only for one day and that too immediately after Eid and call it VIDA NU ROZU (Farewel Fast). Bohras dont follow hadiths because they are mostly from sunni sources and they have their own set of hadiths based on something else and mostly contrary to sunni hadiths.
