Re: HAQIQAT AND TAWILL
anajmi's summation of our discussion is a complete travesty and, a la porus, does amount to throwing pearls before a swine. Here's a prime example:
anajmi, if you do not know what Ismailis, Sufis and Ahemadias stand for please search your favourite haunt - the internet. And when you think you have understood something about them do tell us whether you still consider them as followers of Islam. Then we will know whether you and your salafi brotherhood actually allow alternative interpretations of the Quran.
No, that is not my interpretation. Nowhere have I said that this is my interpretation. In fact, in this entire conversation I've offered no interpretation of the Quran. What I said is that in essence both modes of worship are the same. anjami has the annoying habit of a nagging wife (with apologies to all wives) to latch on to a phrase, twist it out of shape, repeat it out of context, and throw it at you when he has nothing sensible to say. Look at another example: his response above to Fatwa Banker - it's a complete non sequitur.anajmi wrote:According to Humsafar's interpretation of the Quran, woshipping shiva's lingam is the same as praying namaz.

Please provide an alternative interpretation of the Quran and then we will see whether it can be accepted or not.
If I had known what a non sequitur is, I would've made sure my response wasn't that.it's a complete non sequitur.
Re: HAQIQAT AND TAWILL
The Ismailis, Sufis, Ahemadia (not to mention many others) are alternative approaches to (interpretation of) Islam. Stop beating about the bush, just answer the simple question : Do you consider them as Islamic or not?anajmi wrote:Please provide an alternative interpretation of the Quran and then we will see whether it can be accepted or not.
Re: HAQIQAT AND TAWILL
Humsafar,
Consider this ayah of the Quran
002.285
YUSUFALI: The Messenger believeth in what hath been revealed to him from his Lord, as do the men of faith. Each one (of them) believeth in Allah, His angels, His books, and His messengers. "We make no distinction (they say) between one and another of His messengers." And they say: "We hear, and we obey: (We seek) Thy forgiveness, our Lord, and to Thee is the end of all journeys."
PICKTHAL: The messenger believeth in that which hath been revealed unto him from his Lord and (so do) believers. Each one believeth in Allah and His angels and His scriptures and His messengers - We make no distinction between any of His messengers - and they say: We hear, and we obey. (Grant us) Thy forgiveness, our Lord. Unto Thee is the journeying.
SHAKIR: The messenger believes in what has been revealed to him from his Lord, and (so do) the believers; they all believe in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers; We make no difference between any of His messengers; and they say: We hear and obey, our Lord! Thy forgiveness (do we crave), and to Thee is the eventual course.
Do the Ismailis, Sufis, Ahmedias believe in Allah as the creator and the sustainer? Do they believe in his angels and his prophets? Do they believe in the Quran to be the message of Allah? If they do, then they are muslims.
Consider this ayah of the Quran

Re: HAQIQAT AND TAWILL
Nice, that is very charitable of you. Now please do not go about denouncing Ismailis and Bohras un-Islamic sects - they do fulfill your basic criteria of being Muslims.
Re: HAQIQAT AND TAWILL
So they follow my interpretation of the basic criteria? I am shocked!! They follow a book whose language they do not understand? I am even more shocked!! They follow a book laced with an alien culture. More shocking!!!!
Re: HAQIQAT AND TAWILL
Interesting? It is a virtual goldmine of information on the Rasaa'il of Ikhwan al-Safa. It is worth anyone's time to study it carefully. Unfortunately, owing to jahiliyat displayed by some on this board, further discussion cannot be conducted on this important document here.S. Insaf wrote:The article on: http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/ikhwan-al-safa/ is interesting.
Rasaa'il were a major influence in the development of the full-fledged Ismaili Metaphysics following the establishment of the Fatimid Caliphate in Egypt.
Some issues that I have hinted at on this thread are outlined in the article. A relevant quote is the following:
"However the Ikhwân – like the Ismâ‘îlis – adopt Neoplatonic views as the best explication of the origin of the world by God. The world, then, emanates from God through the hypostases of Intellect and Soul. Emanationism is the philosophical expression of creation; it also explains the encyclopaedic structure of the treatises. The various levels of reality down to the three kingdoms of the generated beings (animal, vegetable and mineral) originate continuously through intermediaries from the One. For this reason, by acquiring all the sciences from the lowest to the highest it is possible to attain the common source of everything, the ‘science of God’ in the double sense of pertaining to God and concerning God – the ancient metaphysics (metà ta physikà) no longer indicates what comes “after” physics but what is “beyond” it. Thus, rather than a mere foreign source, Neoplatonism (merged with Neopythagorism) can be considered as the Ikhwân's proper philosophy. Philosophy as imitation of God continues as the guiding principle of the Ikhwân's system, together with equal emphasis on divine revelation".
Another relevant quote is from this article:
http://www.ismaili.net/histoire/history ... ry428.html
"The Epistles (the Rasaa'il) were distributed in various mosques of Baghdad. It played an important role by attempting a creative synthesis of Greek philosophy and the doctrines of Islam, giving a new dimension to the religion. It attracted the best intellectuals of its time and saved Islam from the heretical inroads that were preying upon it".
Those of you who wish to delve deeper into Ismaili metaphysics (haqiqat and tawil) should read works by Yaqub Sijistani and Mohyuddin Shirazi. They are available from Amazon.com.

Re: HAQIQAT AND TAWILL
comment on word noor(light) in quraan...
Almost 14 centuries have passed since the first aayat of Qur’an was revealed on Rasoolullaah (saws) in the Ghaar-e-Hiraa (Cave of Hiraa) in Makkah Mokarramah. Since then, the Qur’an which was revealed originally in the Arabic Language has been translated into innumerable languages across the globe and right now it is the most read book in the World. Though as far as Arabic text of Qur’an is concerned it has remained in its original form but its translation into other languages have got changed and revised with changing times as per the whims of the translators and free-mindedness of the commentators. Translations of the Qur’an in any famous language which are freely available in the market have lost the very essence of the message of the Qur’an. They have lost its spirit, depth and vastness. Translations have merely become a simple written text on a page which has nothing left but readability and compatibility. Had transliterating or translating the words of Allaah been incumbent for the people across the World to read and understand it then Rasoolullaah
(saws) or his aal-e-taiyeb (pure progeny) himself would have translated it in the several languages. He would have never left such important job on the people who are totally blind of its reality and facts. And history stands as a strong witness of those greedy mob-selected people who have used false Qur’anic interpretation for their personal gains and social mileage. If Rasoolullaah (saws) knew the languages of mountains, clouds, animals, stones and trees then translating the Qur’an in any other language of the World was not a big task for him. To negate all these controversies of the future time, Rasoolullaah (saws) said that, Arabic is the language of Allaah and His Prophets.
During the Imaamat of 14th Faatemi Imaam Maulaana Ma’ad Mo’iz (as) (341-365 AH/952-975 AD), whose period is considered the golden and most memorable in respect of secularism, prosperity, education and learning. In Cairo there used to converge a huge number of learned people of various discipline from Islamic and non-Islamic territories and under one roof they used to translate the master’s works into multiple languages and make people understand it with utter simplicity. This formed the base of the beautiful university of academic excellence now known as Jaama’e Azhar. If our Imaam wished he would have got translated the Book of Allaah into many such languages and it was definitely not a big deal. But our Imaam knew the very complexity and esoteric meaning (ta’weel) of it, that cannot be imparted in the common masses. This clearly means that if we want to understand the divine and spiritual understanding of the Qur’an we must learn and recite the Qur’an in Arabic language under the strict guidance, patronage and supervision of the guardian of the Da’wat of Rasoolullaah (saws) i.e. Da’i uz-Zamaan.
Even if the Qur’an is learnt and recited in the Arabic language everything contained in it is not easy to comprehend its true sense. There are numerous instances where our intellectual power or faculty of reasoning fails to extract the real meaning. Forget about the whole chapter or verse of the Qur’an, let us take one of its easiest words – “Noor”. Translators and Commentators across the globe who are expert in English language and literature will translate this word as – light, glory etc. Any of the famous Arabic-English dictionaries gives the meaning of the Noor as – light, ray of light, brightness, gleam, illumination, lamp, lantern, flashing light etc. Unfortunately these are all physical examples or what human mind knows about light or its properties. Everything written in the Qur’an cannot be confined within the limits of what our physical senses perceive. Since Qur’an is the Word of Allaah it has a spiritual dimension which can only be understood by the one who is a link between “that” spiritual world and “this” physical world – and that link is no one but Nabi, Wasi and Imaam. The complexity of the easiest word “Noor” is further evident in the various verses of the Qur’an where above meanings does not convey any meaningful message.
In Aayat un-Noor Allaah Ta’aala says that,
“Allaaho noor us-samaawate wal arze masalo noorehi ka-mishkaatin feeha misbaahun; al-misbaaho fee zojaajatin; az-zojaajato ka-annahaa kaukabun durriyun yooqado min shajaratin mobaarakatin zaytoonatil laa sharqiyatin walaa gharbiyatin” (35/24)
which means, ‘Allaah is the Light of the Skies and the Earth. His Light is as a niche and within it a lamp; the lamp is in the glass, the glass as it were a brilliant star, lit from a mubaarak tree, an olive, neither of the east not of the west’.
In this verse Allaah says that, He is the Light of the Skies and the Earth and it is contained in a glass which is like a brilliant star. Common understanding says that if Allaah is the Light of Skies and Earth, how could it be contained in a glass which is again like a brilliant star? Next baffling thing is that it is lit from a tree. Even if the lantern is lit in the sky how is it possible that it is lit from a tree? Undoubtedly, the real meaning of this verse cannot be grasped without the Saheb of intellectuality and reasoning.
In another verse Allaah says that,
“Qad jaa’akum minallaahe noorun wa ketaabum mobeen” (15/5)
which means, ‘There has come to you from Allaah, a Light and an open Book’.
If Allaah has said in the previous verse that He is the Light of Skies and Earth, then which is the Light in this aayat which Allaah has sent to us? This means that the Light in the previous verse is different from the Light in this verse. Hence the word Noor in both these aayats does not carry the same meaning of “Light”.
Elsewhere in other verse Allaah says that,
“Afaman sharahallaaho sadrahu lil islaame fahowa ‘alaa noorin min rabbehi” (22/39) which means, ‘Is he whose chest Allaah has opened for Islaam, so that he is in light from his Lord? Taking the context of Light from the previous two verses can we understand what the meaning of Light in this verse is?
Roots of confusion goes further deep in the mind when in the following verse Allaah says that,
“Wallazeena aamanu billaahe wa rosolehi olaa’eka homus-siddiqoona was-shohadaa’a ‘inda rabbehim lahum ajrohum wa noorohum” (19/57)
which means, ‘And those who believe in Allaah and His Messengers, they are veracious and martyrs, they shall have their reward and their light’.
What is this Light which will be given to the people who have believed in Allaah and His Prophets?
In Aayat ul-Kursi, Allaah says that, “Allaaho waleeyul-lazeena aamanu yukhrejohum minaz-zolomaate elan noor” (257/2) which means, ‘Allaah is the Walee of those who believe. He brings them out from darkness into light’. Can we understand the meaning of this verse from its translation? Which is this Light where Allaah will take His believers?
Above quoted verses from the Qur’an are just examples. It would go beyond the limits of article if we go on quoting the verses containing the word Noor. It is proved that the concept of Noor in all above verses is not same. Hence to know the real meaning of the Qur’an and its words we need to go to the person who has understood it in depth. Hence for learning Qur’an, a single person authorized by Allaah through “Nass” is necessary and not the books of Commentary or Tafseer. The person on the status of Imaamat who is appointed by his father and he appoints his son in his place, is always present on the face of this Earth in the absence of Nabi or Wasi and he is called the Imaam (as) of the Shi’a of Ameer ul-Mumineen Ali (as). Therefore, the people who have not got the Ne’mat of A’immat-e-Taahereen (as) i.e. Imaam-e-Aal-e-Mohammad (as) have indeed not got the real essence of the Qur’an.
During the time of the occultation (daur us-Satr) of A’immat (as), the Du’aat ul-Akrameen (aq) carries over the Da’wat of Allaah to the mumineen and imparts them the unaltered knowledge of Shari’at and teaches the real message of the Qur’an. We are the blessed ones because we are not perplexed by the complexity of the Qur’an because A’immat-e-Taahereen (as) have given us an in depth understanding of every word of the Qur’an. Hence, for us, Noor is not merely Light but it is the Glory of Allaah (jalaal and ‘azmat), knowledge (‘ilm), Angels (malaa’ekah), Ambiyaa (as) (pl. Of nabi), Awsiyaa (as) (pl. Of wasi), A’immat (as) (pl. Of imaam), mumineen (believers), Qur’an, guidance (hidaayat), deeds (aamaal), Da’wat (spiritual mission), salvation (najaat), paradise (Jannat), bounties (ne’mat), intercession (shafaa’at) etc. Noor encompasses all these meanings in its vastness and which of its meaning applies to which verse is clarified by A’immat-e-Athaar (as) in numerous books and treatises and its excerpts are often weaved in the articles on our website or Mishkaat ul-Haadi monthly newsletter .
Even a human being passes through a continuous cycle of darkness and light. By being born in this World is coming from darkness into light – from the darkness of his mother’s womb he is stepping into the new bright sunny environment of this Earth. He leads his life in the light. If he is guided by Allaah, he gets the light of the righteous knowledge and accordingly he executes lawful deeds of Shari’at which indeed is a light for Him. When he dies he goes from the light of this world into the darkness of grave. But for a mumin, the darkness of grave does not matter at all because the light of knowledge and deeds will illuminate his grave.
Darkness is nothing but absence of Noor. Darkness cannot be made or created. Wherever there is no light, there is darkness. In the horrific darkness of ignorance Allaah has lit the light of His Prophets who exhibits the heavenly beauty of the eternal code of life governed by Him. All of us cannot grasp the real essence of the Shari’at of Allaah. There are some people who have left our heavenly garden of Ahl ul-Bayt (as) and went astray in search of flowers elsewhere but to their misfortune they could not find the fragrance and beauty of a garden like us. They could not understand that by going elsewhere they have indeed left the roots of all knowledge and light. A garden full of brilliance, glory, fragrance, beauty and calmness was not visible to them. For them Allaah says,
“Aw ka-zolomaatin fee bahril lujjiyin yaghshaaho maujum min fauqehi maujum min fauqehi sahaabun zolomaatun ba’zohaa fauqa ba’zin ezaa akhraja yadaho lam yakad yaraahaa wamal lam yaj’alillaaho lahu nooran famaa lahu min noor” (40/24)
which means, ‘Or is like a darkness in a vast deep sea, overwhelmed with a great wave over a great wave, topped by dark clouds, darkness one above the another, if a man stretches out his hand, he can hardly see it! And he for whom Allaah has not made Light, for him there is no Light’.
The darkness described above is the darkness of ignorance, impure knowledge and ill-learning acquired from the one who does not believe in the Divine Succession of Nabi, Wasi and the Imaam (as). These are the people who have acquired infected knowledge from other sources and boast that they know the best. They are not less than those who make unlawful sexual relations (zinaa) by cheating their lawful wife and getting infected with deadly diseases like STDs. Here, STDs stands for “Sustained Torture of Darkness”. They are in a delusion that they have got the Noor; but truly Noor is only with those who have faith in the Nass of M. Ali (as) and his beloved children. They roam about here and there with their “Noor” which in reality is darkness of ignorance and license of illicit relationship. They try to mislead mumineen in every possible way by starting classes of ignorance, printing their ‘dark’ literature, distributing tormenting and nasty pamphlets etc. They themselves don’t know to which sect they belong. Forgetfully they sometimes bang in some janaazah only to showcase their unsteadiness or get hooked to some fanatic group. Their oscillating tendency is evident when, in Moharram they do the maatam of Imaam Husain (as) and in Ramazaan they start and end their fasts with the sighting of Moon. They don’t even know that Imaam Husain (as) never started or ended the fasts of Ramazaan by seeing the Moon on the rooftops. The reason is that Imaam Husain (as) himself is the Haqeeqi (real) Moon and there is no need for him to see the other Moon in the sky..! Every Faatemi Imaam is like a Moon to us and the ultimate “Noor” which Allaah will descend on us is in the being of Imaam and we pray that may Allaah Ta’aala reveal this Noor in the blessed time of ours.
Almost 14 centuries have passed since the first aayat of Qur’an was revealed on Rasoolullaah (saws) in the Ghaar-e-Hiraa (Cave of Hiraa) in Makkah Mokarramah.

If rasullullah was alive i am sure he must have used all this new technological tools to spread deen,db dont share knowledge because they worried they may lose the monopoly.nothing else is the reason to keep people in dark.

@Incredible,
i can understand your restlessness of not getting answers from different sources you have been trying. As mentioned earlier why dont you try to answer few of questions posted by Porus to Anajmi.

"there is nothing like hidden knowledge" quraan was sent for all from dumb men to the smartest one.so there is no need to search for any hidden knowledge...i dont even see anajmi asking any important unexplainable answers.aqs wrote:@Incredible,

Re: HAQIQAT AND TAWILL
these were posted by Porus for Anajmi, you can try you hands on itO great one! O one who knows the truth!
You are greater even than the Sunni mufasseer, ibn Katheer.
So throw us some crumbs of knowledge.
Who were Idris, Dhul Kifl and Dhul Qarnayn?
Who is Khidr? Actually, this one is not mentioned in the Quran?
What was Isra, mentioned in the Quran and Meraj, not mentioned in the Quran? Why do Muslims believe in the latter, a myth? Did Muhammad meet all those prophets, literally? Was he actually, physically transported from Makkah to Jerusalem. And was a masjid, now known as al-aqsa, there? Oh, hadith, of course. But isn't Quran sufficient like the great lord Umar ibn al-Khattab, kept reminding true Muslims?
What is nafs? What is ruh? What is the difference between them?
What is an angel? What is a jinn? What is Shaytan?
What is good and what is evil?
What is heaven and what is hell?
What is light? ( I asked that before, O great one!). Now, what is time? How did the world begin? How will it end?
How did Jews end up in Egypt during the reign of the Pharaoh Ramses? (HInt: Monotheism was adopted by Pharaoh Akhenaten, Who inspired Akhenaten? He was there befor Ramses). Did Musa actually talk to God? Is the story of Bani Israel just a historical story in the Quran with no taawil in it? Who was Musa's teacher mentioned in Surat al-Kahf?

Re: HAQIQAT AND TAWILL
Who were Idris, Dhul Kifl and Dhul Qarnayn?
All three were prophets. The story of Dhul Qarnayn is mentioned in Surah Al Kahf in detail.
Who is Khidr? Actually, this one is not mentioned in the Quran?
Khidr is the teacher of Musa (as). His name is not mentioned in the Quran.
Yes hadith.
What is nafs? What is ruh? What is the difference between them?
nafs can be referred to as instinct. For eg. during ramadan, if you look at food, your mouth starts salivating. You need to control your nafs. Ruh is the soul. The body dies the soul does not die, soul returns to the maker etc etc.
What is an angel? What is a jinn? What is Shaytan?
An angel has wings. You might want to watch X-Men 3, the last stand. The angel mutant has wings. Angels are created from light (noor). Angels obey every command of Allah without referring to what Ismaili Metaphysics has to say about it. Gabriel, Michael are angels mentioned in the Quran.
A jinn is what you get when you rub a lamp. A jinn is made of fire.
A Shaytan is one who follows Abdul Wahhab. Shaytan is most probably a jinn.
What is good and what is evil?
If Santa brings you a gift, you are good. If he doesn't then you are evil.
What is heaven and what is hell?
You go to heaven if you are good and you go to hell if you are evil.
What is light? ( I asked that before, O great one!).
light is that which erases darkness and helps people, who are not blind, to see. Light in the Quran is faith.
Now, what is time?
Time is that which can be wasted here on this board. It is the fourth dimension. Arnold can travel through it.
How did the world begin? How will it end?
Define "world"
How did Jews end up in Egypt during the reign of the Pharaoh Ramses? (HInt: Monotheism was adopted by Pharaoh Akhenaten, Who inspired Akhenaten? He was there befor Ramses). Did Musa actually talk to God? Is the story of Bani Israel just a historical story in the Quran with no taawil in it? Who was Musa's teacher mentioned in Surat al-Kahf?
How did Jews end up in Egypt during the reign of the Pharaoh Ramses?
Maybe they went there in search of a livelihood. Maybe they heard about Akhenaten and moved there so that they could follow their religion.
Did Musa actually talk to God?
Did Musa speak Arabic? Because according to Ismaili Metaphysics, since Allah wrote the Quran in Arabic, Allah only knows Arabic. And ofcourse Musa didn't speak Arabic.
Is the story of Bani Israel just a historical story in the Quran with no taawil in it?
Define taawil. Is it Ismaili Metaphysics borrowed from neoplatonism by sycophants of the Imam?
Who was Musa's teacher mentioned in Surat al-Kahf?
According to tradition, his name was Khidr. He may not be a human but an angel in the form of a human as human laws did not apply to him.

Re: HAQIQAT AND TAWILL
Damn! I knew it! Muayyad Shirazi, Abu Yaqub Sijistani, al Farabi and others should have waited for these gems before embarking on their ludicrous wild goose quest for unearthing what they mistakenly thought were the secrets of the Quran. Ignorant idiots!! Why the world calls them scholars, one will never understand!!anajmi wrote:Who were Idris, Dhul Kifl and Dhul Qarnayn?

In their defence I must say that they did not have access to the Yusufali translation of the Quran like our friend anajmi. As I suspected, anajmi is the Great Master and authority and knows the Quran inside out. He has all the answers. He deserves applause. The world will throw itself at his feet for these fabulous gems. In one stroke, all the taawil and all the haqiqat which for centuries have kept mushriks in their thrall has been rendered superfluous! Light has now been shown to be shining bright!
And how could I have missed them in all my readings of the Quran? Damn?

YUSUFALI: Also mention in the Book the case of Idris: He was a man of truth (and sincerity), (and) a prophet:
PICKTHAL: And make mention in the Scripture of Idris. Lo! he was a saint, a prophet;
SHAKIR: And mention Idris in the Book; surely he was a truthful man, a prophet,

YUSUFALI: And We raised him to a lofty station.
PICKTHAL: And We raised him to high station.
SHAKIR: And We raised him high in Heaven.

YUSUFALI: Those were some of the prophets on whom Allah did bestow His Grace,- of the posterity of Adam, and of those who We carried (in the Ark) with Noah, and of the posterity of Abraham and Israel of those whom We guided and chose. Whenever the Signs of (Allah) Most Gracious were rehearsed to them, they would fall down in prostrate adoration and in tears.
PICKTHAL: These are they unto whom Allah showed favour from among the prophets, of the seed of Adam and of those whom We carried (in the ship) with Noah, and of the seed of Abraham and Israel, and from among those whom We guided and chose. When the revelations of the Beneficent were recited unto them, they fell down, adoring and weeping.
SHAKIR: These are they on whom Allah bestowed favors, from among the prophets of the seed of Adam, and of those whom We carried with Nuh, and of the seed of Ibrahim and Israel, and of those whom We guided and chose; when the communications of the Beneficent Allah were recited to them, they fell down making obeisance and weeping.
